The Space

1. The map point given by AirBnB is completely misleading and I so far had frustrating attempt to fix it. Alternatively, plz use the G00gl0 map that I provide with pics. It shows the accurate address, which is only 2 mins away from Seoul Station.

2. Ideal for a family with 2 adults and 2 children. The smaller bed might be a little uncomfortable for 2 adults. In case you are a 4-adult group, for your comfort, I put a small sofa bed in the flat. (Check pics)

3. Can't understand why you ask me the price. The system will tell you the full price if you try booking (you won't be charged only by attempting it.). There is no extra charge as much as no extra discount, so please don't bother me with price. (Unless you want to stay longer than 2 months)

This listing is a two-room apartment (or one bed flat in western standard) that is my family's sub-home in Seoul located right next to the Seoul Railway Station. My sister used to live here until she got married, because she is a high-speed train (KTX) attendant bounding from Seoul.

The apartment is now infrequently occupied, so I thought it can be a decent accommodation option for travelers who want to take an advantage of location, transportation, amenities, and the apartment's high maintenance.

* House condition
- Two SUPER spacious rooms (living and bed rooms)
- Kitchen, toilet, and small garage for heater.
- Queen and double beds
- Whole-wall-size wardrobe
- Desktop computer on a desk
- Two seat sofa (Green-color one) and sofa bed
- TV with audio station
- Dining table w/ four chairs
- Mind-blowing A/C
- Kitchenware w/ refrigerator + microwave + rice cooker

Combining the living and the bed rooms, it looks like an extra bed room attached to a big size studio. (See the floor plan in photos) Having all these items, there still is large space for both rooms. You can also store your bicycle or stroller at the door front.

* Location
It's only 2 mins walking distance from Seoul Railway Station's west gate. (Confirmed by the G00gl0 map!!!) My sister wanted to have the closest apartment possible to her working place, and it indeed has an incomparable access to the station. Plz find more instructions on pics

* Transportation
- Airport shuttle train (AREX) in 2 mins
- Subway: Line 1 (Dark blue) and Line 4 (Light Blue)
- Bus: The largest bus station ifo the Seoul station's east exit
- Taxi: More than dozens on both east and west exits of Seoul station

Seoul Railway Station (SRS) is "The" central station of the Seoul Metropolitan Area (SMA). If you are coming from Incheon International Airport (or Gimpo National Airport), there is a direct (yet cheap) airport shuttle train which takes less than 1 hour to SRS. The shuttle train arrives on the west side of SRS, so for visitors to my listing, you don't have to walk that much to reach this house.

* Amenities
- Lotte Mart (WalMart like large supermarket chain) next to Seoul Station
- Several convenience stores nearby
- Korean BBQ chicken delivery right below the building

* Security
Will you have a family sub-home in a dangerous neighborhood?

*About me & my family
Again, it's a family sub-home in Seoul. My family lives in Daegu, 2 hours away from Seoul by KTX (high speed train), but used to have a lot of business in Seoul. I myself have graduated from Seoul National Univ's economics program and have worked in Seoul for two years before going for graduate studies in London and later in Boston. I stay there whenever I come back in Korea for holidays and meet friends in Seoul. As said, my sister used to live here, and parents still come here quite often as well. You might come across them upon your check-in/out.

* Others
The building has a parking lot on the first (or ground) floor, and there is a security guy monitoring visitors. (Your access will not be bothered, fyi) I have seen two other apartments in the same building on AirBnB-like housing rental website with a number of foreign guests, if it helps you to be comfortable choosing my listing.

Hope you enjoy traveling Korea and let me know if you have any questions about this apartment.
Important Q&As

1. Two rooms? or two bedrooms?
In Asia, we go by # of rooms instead of bedrooms. This one has one living room and one bed room by western standard, and one studio and an extra bed room (therefore two rooms) by Asian standard. I specifically mentioned it in the housing condition section, so plz read above description carefully.

2. Which floor? any elevator?
It is on the 3rd (or British 2nd) floor and unfortunately there is no elevator. It certainly is inconvenient if you carry a heavy bag, but as said above, there are two other units in my building on AirBnB which are on the 3rd and the 4th floors. I carry my two 30kg suitcases whenever I come back in Korea. After all, I do admit it is inconvenient but it is manageable stress unless you are a disabled person.

3. Seoul Railway Station? Seoul Subway Station?
The east side of Railway station is the subway station and I am at 2-3 mins away from the west gate. You've got to get out from the west gate of Seoul "Railway" Station.

4. Keys
There is an electric doorlock installed, which means you don't need to have a key to get an access. All you need to do is just to memorize the updated passcode that I will message you a few days prior to your check-in. We normally change it every once a while, fyi.

5. # of people
Unless you bring a "baby", all your kids will be just counted as adults. Based on my experience so far, kids often use more water and electricity, and kids make more noise than responsible adults, which often results in neighbor's complaint. I sometimes issue a coupon of last min discount before your check-out, if I find your family an exceptional case, if this can help you to understand why I charge the same price for kids.

  • This is my first time staying around Seoul Station. I have to say Keith's place is really convenience to the travelers. We took AREX from Incheon Airport to Seoul Station and Keith's place is right at the AREX exit direction which will save you a lot of time carrying your luggage walking around. The instructions in the place is also very clear and easy to understand. I specially appreciated that he even took time to translate the instructions on the washer and also the AC. Keith also response to emails very quickly and he even wrote me email to inform me there will be some noise during the World Cup game.

    The down side of this place is there is no elevator just like Keith said. If you have a lot of luggage, just be prepare to carry them up to 3rd floor.

    Overall, we had a good time staying at his apartment. Thank you!

  • Our stay in your apartment was great. We had everything we needed and my family was very comfortable living there. Our communication with you was also great because you provided a computer from where we could send our requests online to you quickly, not to mention that you responded to our queries and requests promptly. Instructions and house rules were very clear. Location of the place is ok since it was just a few minutes walk from the Seoul Station (the central subway hub to get to the rest of Seoul and even the DMZ). Your rental rate was also reasonable. We will surely recommend your apartment to our friends and if ever we come back to Korea we would want to stay in your place again.

    Response from Keith:

    I am sorry for your inconvenience with wifi connection. There was an unnoticed construction going on around the corner, and the heavy machines disconnected the internet lines. After your notice, as you have seen, we placed an order to internet service provider to fix it ASAP, and it was fixed during your stay. When it comes to neighbor's noise, I guess it would have been much better if you told me so that I could place a claim. Plz tell the host first if you have any trouble, should you try AirBnB service again.

  • Highly recommend staying at Keith's apartment because it's easy to find and his instructions on the airbnb page are clear and easy to follow. It's also very easy to get around the tourist / shopping areas from here - your choice if you want to walk, use the subway or the buses.

    The apartment is family-friendly. My wife and I were able to let our 1-year old walk around semi-supervised while we prepared for the day trips/tours.

    The surrounding area is safe and the neighbors are friendly. The small-store owner near the building and the chicken restaurant owners in particular were very nice to us - they gave free candy to my daughter.

  • The apartment is very convenient! A few minutes walk from seoul station AREX exit.. Easy to travel out to other places.

    The place is clean and well kept. It is cosy and makes us feel like home. Love all the equipment and appliances provided in the apartment. Really useful and it was thoughtful of the owner! :) every single detail taken care out of. There was even a desktop computer provided, so we can research on travel info during our stay there. Instructions and rules were stated inside the house. Real convenient..

    Only thing which can be improved: I think the kitchen top, the glass table and the computer table were kinda dusty when we first checked in. Wondered if anyone has wiped it before we came in.

    The apartment is on the third level. And there is no lift in the building. if you have a heavy luggage, you have to manage it up yourself to the third floor. We bought too many things back for our trip so we had a bit of problem trying to bring our luggage down the stairs..

    Other than that, the stay was perfect! Love the place a lot. Cosy and value for money. Everything is provided. Hassle free, the owner is prompt in answering all queries and very helpful to any problems you may help. :)

  • Great stay

    March 2014
  • I stayed here in mid-March 2014 for four days with my young daughter. For the price, it is an absolutely outstanding bargain if you (email hidden) and a separate bedroom. As the description states, it is a less than 5-minute walk to Seoul Station on the KORAIL side. Excellent facilities, full-size fridge, internet, gas range, etc. It is not a hotel, so there are little things you need to do for yourself like turn on the gas and hot water, but it's really easy and not a big deal. The host is also super-responsive to any questions.

    My only word of reservation (and this has nothing to do with Keith's place itself) is that Seoul Station is VERY BUSY at most hours of the day, so if you have young children under five, it's best to bring a stroller so they won't get trampled by the crowds. Other than that, I would recommend it for everyone.

Deutsche Bank Investment Banking
I am a South Korean academic at Boston Univ's mathematical finance program. Prior to settling down in Boston, have had years of graduate study in financial (email hidden) School of Economics, after trashing investment banking life at Deutsche Bank, Asia. Used to be a seasoned traveler having been almost every corner of the world. (You name it, I've been there.) Now "AirBnB"ing my Seoul housing for international guests in a way to diffuse the deceptive mythology that Korea is the best country to travel, despite the fact that I don't stay there anymore. I can still do hosting thanks to my beloved sister and her husband, both of who are super proactive on house maintenance. If you choose to stay in my apartment, you might come across them.
