We would look forward to welcoming you to come stay in the basement apartment of our home! The neighbourhood is quiet & friendly and near the best of Kitchener (farmers' market, downtown, art gallery, museum, library, theatres, stadium & more). We welcome longer-term rental inquiries.
We would look forward to welcoming you to come stay in the basement apartment of our home.
We are professors and so we usually rent the apartment to graduate students during the academic year. But we have decided to give AirBnB a try for the coming months.
The apartment would best suit one or two people, but in a pinch it can sleep up to four people (two in the bedroom, two on the futon couch).
Apartment layout and amenities:
- basement apartment; 722 square feet
- separate entrance
- washer and dryer
- bathroom with shower (no bathtub)
- eat-in kitchen with full-sized fridge and range, plus microwave, coffee maker, toaster, kettle and most kitchen things you'll need (if you are missing something you need, please just ask)
- one (small) bedroom with double bed
- living room (with futon couch)
- professionally cleaned prior to each visit, with fresh linen provided
We are happy to share our large back deck with BBQ during your stay.
Interaction with guests
We respect the privacy of guests but we are always happy to chat if you'd like advice on things to do and see. We do our best to make sure everyone is comfortable.
We live in a very quiet neighbourhood close to all good things in Kitchener. We are 2 blocks from the amazing Kitchener Farmers' Market and very close to the downtown's Centre in the Square, the Aud, Kichener Public Library's beautifully renovated Main Branch, Victoria Park, the Iron Horse Trail, the GO and Via Train Stations, and many other sites and restaurants. Waterloo's downtown (5 km away) and St. Jacob's (11 km away) are also fairly close by.
We provide a detailed guidebook of all the local amenities, restaurants, cafes, and things to do (theatres, parks, markets, etc.).
Location: the nearest major intersection is Frederick Street & Lancaster Street East in Kitchener.
Our address is rated as "very walkable" on the Walk Score (it gets an 79%).
We are close to the GO and Via train station. Bus stops of major routes (the #7 and #8) are nearby as well.
We are also very close to a great dedicated bike route, the Iron Horse trail system.
No smoking, no pets. We appreciate quiet from 10pm until 7am.

John is from the prairies and Angela grew up on the coast of Newfoundland. We are both university professors (John works on labour and globalization; Angela on energy and environmental policy).
We have really enjoyed using Air B&B while traveling in Western Europe, the US, Quebec and Ontario. And now that we have a home with an apartment, we also host other travellers.
