Delightful cabin on 1250 acres. Hiking over entire property, bird watching, biking, horse ridding on your horses. Short drive to many wineries and breweries in area, such as Chaumette Winery and Crown Winery. Totally quite and peaceful. Outdoor patio with overhead lights and firepit. Morning coffee on the front porch with view of the pond and only the sound of nature!

The space
The three bedroom cabin has a large open kitchen/living room with a wood burning fireplace and long harvest table for dining. The kitchen is supplied with most everything needed for meal prep and coffee, condiments, etc. are provided. Morning coffee is more special on the front porch listening to the joyful sound of birds singing and humming birds flitting and flying around their feeder! The farm was a ‘cut your own Christmas Tree Farm” many years ago and the cabin remains bedecked for Christmas to the joy of youngsters! The stars are brighter in the dark clear skies as there’s no competition other than the fire glow from the patio fire pit on cool evenings. There are overhead lights for charring your marshmallows for the chocolate s’mores you must enjoy while listening to the sounds of frogs, bugs and often the song of the coyotes in the distant hills!

Where you’ll be

Farmington, Missouri, United States

Green Tree Farm is very close to beautiful wineries tucked in the rolling hills and a brewery where one can sample spirits and beer and relax on a large patio with a view of the Missouri countryside. Also, many people come to explore the many great hiking trails within a close proximity of the cabin. Pickle Springs is state owned with a well kept trail through granite boulders to a spectacular hike down to a valley surrounded by a cliff type overhang with ferns and interesting flora. Hawn State Park is also a few miles away and has good well kept hiking trails as well. Hickory Canyon is a bit further drive but is a favorite. About 30 miles away, a great family day can be spent picnicking and walking a well kept trail through giant granite boulders at Elephant Rocks State Park. Not far from there one can explore Johnson Shut-in’s where u may see kayaks floating the swift waters or take a dip in the cool water! Farmington is 11 miles away and is one of Missouri’s finest mid-sized towns. Most all chain restaurants plus fine dining in the historic downtown area can be found on the Courthouse Square. Many amenities like a City Water Park and Engler Park which is a large park with lakes, soccer fields, playgrounds, hiking trails and a Birding Trail, etc. West Columbia Street is one of two entrances off Highway 67 into town and is a historic street lined with large old Maple Trees and pre-Civil War homes. This scenic street leads you directly to the historic downtown and the fine dining restaurants. If you enjoy history, you won’t want to miss Ste. Genevieve which is about a twenty minute drive from the cabin. It was the first settlement West of the Mississippi River and several state owned historic homes are open to the public for a fee. The tourist center would be the place to start and acquire tickets for your selected houses. Good dining can be found at the Hotel Audubon, The Old Brick Tavern, The Anvil, and Stella & Me for great sandwiches! Stay long enough to see everything that this beautiful countryside has to offer in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains.

My husband and I have lived in the area all our life and have been involved in the historic preservation of downtown Farmington. The Colonel Robert’s House is Clinton’s childhood home and has remained in the family since. The home has been completely restored with an addition of a new kitchen/great room downstairs and new master bedroom/bathroom upstairs. Much of the original woodwork and maple flooring remains. I am a former Mayor of Farmington and have been involved in City functions since 1967 when we returned home from college and purchased the historic “Taylor House” a block down the street. A drive down West Columbia Street gives you a sense of stepping back in time to a glimpse of beautifully restored Civil War Homes and lovely bungalows. Farmington offers many great parks like Engler Park and numerous small parks and special events like Country Days and Blues and Brews. Main attractions are the Waterpark and Civic Center., movie theater, numerous grocers, shopping malls and many small shops and restaurants in the historic downtown. If you are a history buff, you are in the right place with St. Genevieve, Ironton and Arcadia Valley, Caledonia and many more small towns home to state historic sites. If you are an adventurer, you will find many state parks with great hiking, fishing, kayaking and more, within close proximity. To mention a few, Elephant Rocks, Johnson Shut ins, Pickle Springs and Hawn State Park offer it all! Missouri’s newest wine region is a short drive from town and is an adventure in itself with beautiful vineyards and great restaurants. Whatever you do, a drive through the lovely rolling hills of this area is a must! Whether it’s pleasure or business, you will find “The Colonel Robert’s House” a comfortably beautiful place to stay and great “base” to explore many Missouri attractions.
