Unique low impact chalet and charming purpose built kitchen and dining space on an old traditional small farm in rural County Wexford. 14 acres with regenerating woodland, stream, pond, woven willow hut, three family dogs and wandering badgers......

The space

We are offering our lovingly built cabins in the tranquil countryside of Ireland's sunny southeast. Our place is an ongoing work. It encompasses a private, small, warm and bright chalet and separate kitchen in the middle of a family run 14 acre smallholding. The chalet is 32 sq metres and has a purpose-built sleeping loft with a double mattress (look closely at the photos and you will see the bed up the ladder in the loft). There is also a double futon sofa, that can be used on the ground floor as a second bed for families or groups. If you have larger groups, please inquire as we have other sleeping options. The space is heated by a woodburning stove, firewood provided! The chalet is often used by the owner as a yoga studio, classes can be requested when you book in. It was built over a two year period and many of the materials were recycled or sourced by the owner through his forestry work. Wifi is available in the chalet, or if your prefer it can be turned off.
A raised deck connects the chalet to a bright, calm kitchen. There is a new five ring gas hob, under counter fridge, beautiful hand made beech counter and with 18m2 of space there is lots of time and space for enjoying the peace of the countryside. We have three family dogs that roam the land and lounge in the sun or hide from the rain!
We provide clean bed linen and towels for all the beds/guests.
There is a private dry compost toilet alongside the chalet and shower use is available in the main house. We are very conscious about keeping the space immaculate, so that the integrity of the building can be appreciated.
The smallholding is very secluded, approx. 3km from the main road and only 7km from artistic Wexford Town. The chalet is tucked into a secluded, private place on the land, near our old apple orchard and wood store.

We have established a new large orchard and a regenerating woodland. Our place is far from the road so it is very safe for children. We have a tree house, swingset and there is a small stream, for relaxing, paddling fun. Beautiful long walks and bike rides from your doorstep. There are also many easy, enjoyable walks to take with children. It is a perfect space for people who desire a quiet place to work, think or meditate. There is an abundance of wild birds and wildlife and often a fox, badger or heron can be spotted.
The main house is located 20 metres from the chalet, down the lane. We are only 20km from Rosslare Europort. 15km to nearest beach, Curracloe. Many other beautiful beaches not much further down the Wexford coast. 2km to a beautiful walk along the Slaney river. There is a small dock along the river, and kayaking/canoeing is a popular activity.

Wexford is the home of the Wexford Opera Festival on the 23rd of October to the 3rd of November. Wexford comes into full swing during the festival, so book your stay early.
There is also a fringe festival at the same time.
Wexford also has a vibrant arts centre for performances and classes.
Wexford is packed with all types of interesting places to visit; from the wild and beautiful Hook Peninsula to the Irish National Heritage Park (just down the road from us). Wexford has many delightful restaurants, and we are quite choosy! from Thai to Italian... Wexford is a slow food town.
the website for Wexford tourism is visitwexford
Loads of activities for children... horseriding, surfing, a great public swimming pool, along with all the great beaches, 10 screen cinema, bowling alley and huge indoor play centre with climbing frames, video arcade, pool tables and cafe. so rain or shine... everyone can be happy.
Wexford is a 3 hour train journey from Dublin, the route is down the east coast, with beautiful views the entire way. Or 2 hours on the bus. Glendalough is 2 hours by public transport, less by car. Cork is 2.5 hours. Kilkenny 45 minutes. Waterford 45 minutes. Both train and bus have a very flexible schedule with many busses and trains returning daily and can leave you in a multitude of places in Dublin or anywhere along the way.
We think our home and area are very special and love to welcome people here.

We Enjoyed such a relaxing week at Badgers Hill. Vivian was out of town but her husband, Chris, warmly welcomed us. The kids loved having dogs and cats to play with and exploring the fields and woods. The chalet was very comfortable to sleep and the kitchen space was great to hang out in and had the essentials. Just needs an outdoor shower and no one would leave! Thanks for the wonderful stay!

We LOVED the chalet! The room was spacious with great beds and natural light. We didn't need to use the heater: the temperature was perfect throughout our summer night. The kitchen in back was lovely and well-stocked with delicious local breakfast food. The eco-friendly outside bathroom was a fun experience; easy to use and very clean, with an outdoor sink to wash. The main house had a full bathroom with a nice shower, which we were able to use. Fiona, the caretaker during our stay, was extremely accommodating: we loved chatting with her when we arrived and in the morning. She offered to meet up with us in Dublin later, and we hope to see her again soon! Overall, it was a perfect night, and we dearly miss all four of the adorable dogs who escorted us around the property!

Our stay at the chalet was absolutely amazing! It is "off the grid" enough to give you a country feel, but close enough to the town of Wexford if you want to find a restaurant or do some shopping. If you buy groceries there is a great kitchen that has all of the pots and pans you could need. Vivian even brought us some olive oil when we realized we forgot ours! The outhouse was surprisingly no issue and we were used to it in no time -- the shower in the main house was great and we even got some playtime with the puppies while over there! Great wifi, wonderful hosts and such an amazing spot to unwind and enjoy the Irish countryside.

Vivian and Chris seemed like lovey people. They were both really friendly but I only saw them briefly on my arrival due to my short stay. The lodging is unique and very comfortable. The wood stove worked great and kept me very warm. However, I did not read the listing closely enough. I think this would be a place much better suited for any season but the winter due to the outside location of the toilet. It's just outside the door but there was a storm on when I was there and it made it tricky. Vivian expressed surprise with my booking in fact saying that people don't usually book this time of year (December). The kitchen also requires a walk across the deck which is really neat but again probably not the best in the winter. Most of all, since it is a farm, they have four free running dogs so if you are not ok with dogs this listing is not for you. Also if your are worried about your rental car going down a farm lane, this also might not be for you. If you are looking for a unique building and an experience on a working Irish farm, this is for you! Don't forget to ask Vivian about yoga!

We had a lovely stay at the chalet. The experience was truly relaxing with the animals to visit and the outdoor patio where we sat and chatted. Vivian was a great help to us in advising where to stop in town and where to stop in the next town we traveled to. I highly recommend staying here.

Staying with Vivian and family at Badger Hill in Wexford was the highlight of our multi-stop tour of Ireland and UK. The chalet itself is special with amazing light and beautiful natural surroundings. It is well equiped with an outdoor deck and attached kitchen eating area. Our daughter had a wonderful time with the dogs and was made part of the family. Wexford and surrounds are fantastic to explore. We only wish we had more time. Our daughter has already asked to return...

The family was very welcoming. The chalet and kitchen were very clean. We just spent one night there and left early the next morning to catch the ferry back to Wales, so unfortunately we didn't have much time to enjoy the property. My 3-year-old daughter really enjoyed playing with the toys that were there. We will definitely book this place again if we find ourselves in the area in the future.

A busy mother of four who bakes sourdough bread, teaches yoga and loves the Irish spring. We are an adventurous family who have lived in the United States and Spain and traveled many other places. Our best holidays are ones we have shared with local families. Our home is special and feels like another world. There is always someone playing music, walking in the garden or enjoying a quiet spot among the trees.
