Description

Unique low impact chalet and charming purpose built kitchen and dining space on an old traditional small farm in rural County Wexford. 14 acres with regenerating woodland, stream, pond, woven willow hut, farm animals and wandering badgers......

We are offering our lovingly built cabin in the tranquil countryside of Ireland's sunny southeast. New in 2014- we have just added a purpose built kitchen! Our place is an ongoing work. It encompasses a private, small, warm and bright chalet and separate new kitchen in the middle of a family run 14 acre working smallholding. The chalet is 32 sq metres and has a purpose-built sleeping loft with a double mattress (look closely at the photos and you will see the bed up the ladder in the loft). There is also a double futon sofa, that can be used on the ground floor as a second bed for families or groups. If you have larger groups, please inquire as we have other sleeping options. The space is heated by a woodburning stove, firewood provided! The chalet is often used by the owner as a yoga studio, classes can be requested when you book in. It was built over a two year period and many of the materials were recycled or sourced by the owner through his forestry work. Wifi is available in the chalet, or if your prefer it can be turned off.
We have just added a new complete kitchen- see updated photos! There is a new five ring gas hob, under counter fridge, beautiful hand made beech counter and with 18m2 of space there is lots of time and space for enjoying the peace of the countryside.
We provide clean bed linen and towels for all the beds/guests.
There is a private dry compost toilet alongside the chalet and shower use is available in the main house. We are very conscious about keeping the space immaculate, so that the integrity of the building can be appreciated.
The smallholding is very secluded, approx. 3km from the main road and only 7km from artistic Wexford Town. The chalet is tucked into a secluded, private place on the land, near our old apple orchard and wood store.

We are a working smallholding and keep dogs, geese, chickens, and a donkey. We have established a new large orchard and a regenerating woodland. Our place is far from the road so it is very safe for children. We have a tree house, swingset and there is a small stream, for relaxing, paddling fun. Beautiful long walks and bike rides from your doorstep. There are also many easy, enjoyable walks to take with children. It is a perfect space for people who desire a quiet place to work, think or meditate. There is an abundance of wild birds and wildlife and often a fox, badger or heron can be spotted.
The main house is located 20 metres from the chalet, down the lane. We are only 20km from Rosslare Europort. 15km to nearest beach, Curracloe. Many other beautiful beaches not much further down the Wexford coast. 2km to a beautiful walk along the Slaney river. There is a small dock along the river, and kayaking/canoeing is a popular activity.

Wexford is the home of the Wexford Opera Festival on the 23rd of October to the 3rd of Novermber. wexfordopera
Wexford comes into full swing during the festival, so book your stay early.
There is also a fringe festival at the same time. wexfordfringe
Wexford also has a vibrant arts centre for performances and classes. wexfordartscentre
Wexford is packed with all types of interesting places to visit; from the wild and beautiful Hook Peninsula to the Irish National Heritage Park (just down the road from us). Wexford has many delightful restaurants, and we are quite choosy! from Thai to Italian... Wexford is a slow food town.
the website for Wexford tourism is visitwexford
Loads of activities for children... horseriding, surfing, a great public swimming pool, along with all the great beaches, 10 screen cinema, bowling alley and huge indoor play centre with climbing frames, video arcade, pool tables and cafe. so rain or shine... everyone can be happy.
Wexford is a 3 hour train journey from Dublin, the route is down the east coast, with beautiful views the entire way. Or 2 hours on the bus. Glendalough is 2 hours by public transport, less by car. Cork is 2.5 hours. Kilkenny 45 minutes. Waterford 45 minutes. Both train and bus have a very flexible schedule with many busses and trains returning daily and can leave you in a multitude of places in Dublin or anywhere along the way.
We think our home and area are very special and love to welcome people here.

We live on 14 acres of land and guests are free to roam and explore the small regenerating woodland, the new orchard, a stream, feed the geese from the woven willow hut by the pond..........

We are always here to welcome the guests and are usually around to give them great tips about local secret spots or update them on local events.....

This was our first airBNB experience and we could not have been happier. The whole experience at Badgers Hill exceeded our expectations - the accomodation, the surrounding facilities and the warmth of the hosting family made for a very enjoyable and memorable few days for myself and young family as our base for a visit to Wexford. Everything of the facilities and property was as described, with plenty of adventuring and playing for our three boys, who loved the tree house, orchard, zip line, four friendly dogs and playing with hosting family. We were warmly welcomed by our hosting family with milk, bread and jam provided after our long haul flight from Australia. The interaction with Vivian and Chris was friendly and professional and they help us with our schedule. This is rustic, eco friendly, rural Ireland at its very best, made all the better by the hosting family. Unique, brilliant and beautiful. We hope to return ....soon.

Vivian's rustic retreat is exactly that, a place to unwind, check out and relax. We picked The Chalet because of its other worldly charm. We were not disappointed. If you are looking for a unique opportunity to recharge and switch off then this is the place for you. When you arrive you'll be greated by the motley crew of beloved family dogs who welcome you at the end of the lane, although you'll want to you can't take one home. We drank wine, played cards and slept soundly. I would highly recommend you take the time to let go and if by any chance you need them Vivian and Chris are always available. I definitely would go back here for a couple of nights just to stop for awhile and breathe.

Vivian Chris and their 4 children were very friendly and nice . it was great to talk to them and live in their home. Our little Emma had a great time playing with their dogs . The house is a real farm in the green Irish, is clean, big and cozy . There is a patio where you can eat outside . Missing the comfort of a bathroom in the house but to the place that is rightly so .

We had a really great time staying with Vivian. We were made very welcome and felt very at home. Everything was as described. The setting is really beautiful and you can go for walks in the woods etc. You are really close to wexford town (by car) so you can get anything you need there as it is a pretty large town. They have a few dogs which were nice. If you have a morbid fear of dogs it might be a problem but you could still ask Vivian about it. The hosts Vivian and Chris were really approachable and laid back. There was a dry composting toilet which was interesting, I had never used one before but it was fine, they don't smell and are very clean. Overall, we had a great time and would definately visit again and recommend to our friends

We Enjoyed such a relaxing week at Badgers Hill. Vivian was out of town but her husband, Chris, warmly welcomed us. The kids loved having dogs and cats to play with and exploring the fields and woods. The chalet was very comfortable to sleep and the kitchen space was great to hang out in and had the essentials. Just needs an outdoor shower and no one would leave! Thanks for the wonderful stay!

A busy mother of four who bakes sourdough bread, teaches yoga and loves the Irish spring. We are an adventurous family who have lived in the United States and Spain and traveled many other places. Our best holidays are ones we have shared with local families. Our home is special and feels like another world. There is always someone playing music, walking in the garden or enjoying a quiet spot among the trees.
