• 4 minute walk to a beautiful wide sandy beach • Shallow entry to water is perfect for young kids • Large property with lots of space to spread out • Removed from the hustle and bustle of downtown Wasaga • Covered outdoor dining/barbecue area • Rooftop deck – great for sunbathing • WINTERIZED - 30 minutes to ski Blue Mountain
Your home away from the city – With so much space to spread out, this is the perfect spot for small families, or two families (or 3 couples) who are looking for a place to share. Our raised, ranch-style house is on two levels. The upper features an open-concept living/dining room, kitchen, large master bedroom and 3-piece bath. At the back, the sunroom overlooking the large, private yard is an ideal spot to enjoy a morning coffee or relax with a book. On the lower level, there are two large bedrooms, one with walk-out to the backyard, both with queen beds. The common area between the two bedrooms is set up as family room/ additional sleeping space with a double bed and a futon couch. Very separate from the upstairs, it's a great place for the kids to hangout when the parents are chatting in the living room. The lower level also has it's own 2-piece bath (toilet and shower) and laundry room with washing machine.
The house sits on large property, in a quiet area surrounded by tall pines. When you’re not at the beach - relax in a hammock amongst the trees, enjoy a meal under the covered dining area, sunbathe on the rooftop deck or start up a game of soccer in the backyard.
In addition to 14km of white sandy beach, Wasaga has lots of activities for the whole family. Golf, Fish, Hiking/Cycling and Winter Activities too! (website hidden) Ski Blue Mountain only a 30 minute drive
The cottage is professionally cleaned before your arrival. Upon vacating, please leave the premises tidy and free of trash. The security deposit will be returned within 7 days after your stay, upon no-damage verification. No smoking in the cottage. Ask about pets. Bring your own linens and towels. Blankets are provided.
Outdoor Fires & Fireworks
Recreational fires are only allowed during low fire hazard ratings. The local fire hazard rating is posted on (website hidden). Wasaga bylaw prohibits fire flames being more than 0.5 meters in height. Please use firebowl provided. Wasaga bylaw also prohibits any fire being lit in any circumstance after 1 am. Fireworks are strictly prohibited at all times.
Never leave garbage outside the cottage, in the fire bowl or under the front porch. Country critters love garbage and unless you wish to be visited by these hungry animals, it’s best to keep it locked in the box at the foot of the driveway. Garbage and recycling pick-up is on Monday. You are responsible for putting out the recycling bins before you leave.
Garbage will be collected directly from the box at the foot of the drive. Please use the black Garbage bags provided. Any other type of bag will not be collected. We are allowed one bag per household. Any extra bags will require a garbage tag. Garbage tags are in the kitchen drawer with the aluminum foil and saran wrap. Additional tages can be purchased at Foodland (711 River Rd W, across from the Walmart) for $2 each.
Garbage and recycling must be kept separate or it will not be picked up. Recycling bins are under the front porch. Please use the blue bin for cans, bottles and plastic; and the grey bin for paper and cardboard – do not mix with recycling with garbage. If you have more recycling than there is room for in the bin, clear bags are provided for you, they can be found under the microwave.
If you have any questions about what can or cannot be included, please consult the Waste Management calendar at the back of this binder. Failure to adhere to the Waste Disposal rules may force us to withhold a portion of your deposit.
The cottage is on municipal water and the water is safe to drink.
Please do not put anything down the toilet (ie: Dental Floss, condoms, baby wipes, feminine products or paper towels) other than natural waste and toilet paper.
There may be some non-perishable food supplies or staples at the cottage. You are welcome to use these if you need to, but we ask that you replace any supplies that become depleted during your stay.
All pets at the cottage must be pre-approved. The number of pets is restricted to one, unless prior, written authorization is obtained. Guests visiting the cottage are not permitted to bring a pet without the express written permission from the owner.
Please note that as a pet owner, you are responsible for your pet. The Property Owner accepts no liability for any pets or their actions. In this regard please adhere to the following pet rules:
1. Pets must be kept on a leash or near you at all times. Do not allow your pet to disturb the neighbours
2. Do not allow pets on the furniture (especially the beds). If your pet is used to this behavior at home then please bring blankets/towels to cover the furniture.
3. All dog poop must be cleaned up from the cottage lawn and driveway area. This is a municipal requirement and a community expectation. Your compliance is appreciated by the owner and by the next guests. Failure to do so will result in a $30 clean up fee.
4. Any damages caused to the property by a pet shall be deducted from your security deposit.
5. Please note that though the property is advertised as “No Pets”, this does not mean that the cottage has not had pets present at some time. The Property Owner takes no responsibility for conditions arising from allergies whether noted as “No Pets” or not.
Your adherence to a check-out time of 11am is appreciated and allows time for cottage maintenance and preparation for the next guests.
Doug was a great host, very easy going. The pictures are very accurate to the place. Lots of common room and space for sleeping. A great outdoor area. Would return in an instant. Thanks
We reached at the cottage around 4 PM and it was neat, clean and more welcoming than we thought. The best part was board games. Our kids really enjoyed.
Doug was very courteous and reachable! Well done!
Doug's cottage is exactly as advertised. There is lots of space and lots of beds to sleep on. He even has folding beds if additional beds are needed. The kitchen is fully equipped. We all felt very comfortable being in his cottage and we hope to come back next year. Doug is a great host and accommodating.
I didn't meet Doug (the host) in person, but he was very friendly over the phone. This place is a cosy cottage in a nice neighbourhood, only a couple of minutes walk from the lake. The cottage is a bit dated, but completely functional. It had everything we needed.
The house was on a really lovely quiet street with a great big yard for the kids to play in. Doug was very accommodating and the house was as described. We hosted a Thanksgiving dinner for the two families who stayed, so the home is very well equipped for all the cooking that was done. (If you plan such a big meal bring along some casserole dishes and a roasting pan, but every thing else was there!) It was a very peaceful weekend and we very much enjoyed wandering down to the beach and walking along it, the kids collecting shells and driftwood along the way. Stay here if you are looking for relaxation and family bonding time without spending a fortune!! :)
Our stay at Allenwood cottage was great! Lots of room, close to beach and minutes from Wasaga beach too. Thank you Doug for letting us stay there:)
Doug was very helpful and accommodating during our communications back and forth. He was responsive within 24 hours and provided all the information we needed ahead of time. The place was very peaceful but not quite as close to the beach as we had hoped. The set up in the basement was a bit odd with no sink in the lower bathroom - the sink was in the laundry room the next room over. Not such a big deal, but just not quite what we were expecting. Everything upstairs was perfect and as described in the posting.
Thanks for your review Zahra. I had in my description that the beach was less than 300 metres away. I just updated it to a '4 minute walk away'. Maybe that is a better way to communicate the distance. As for the downstairs washroom, I have always listed that the 2 piece consists of a 'shower and toilet'.
Our cleaning service has been very dependable, so I am disappointed there was sand everywhere. I will follow up! Thanks.
