Our modern cottage is on a private waterfront peninsula on VA's Eastern Shore, convenient to Onancock and Cape Charles. It's a peaceful retreat with a dock, kayaks, and canoe. Prepare your meals, enjoy our saltwater pool or catch crabs (seasonal). A birding paradise year round! The cottage is tastefully decorated with coastal decor, including Blue Crab stoneware dishes, and has an herb garden. We are pleased to teach you how to catch and cook crabs or enjoy your first kayak experience.

The space

Enjoy a peaceful vacation any time of the year on a private, secluded waterfront peninsula on a hill overlooking a tidal saltwater creek, where crabbing, kayaking, fishing or relaxing await you. You’ll likely spot great blue herons, osprey, egrets, bald eagles, deer or wild turkey. Our modern one bedroom cottage features a great room (kitchen/den), bedroom with queen bed, bath with shower, walk in closet, laundry room and front porch overlooking the water.

Two of our favorite reviews: "This is not 5 stars... THIS IS 10!!!” and "Some of the nicest folks we have ever met, it's like they invented the word hosting." The bottom line: we enjoy having guests and sharing our little piece of paradise with you!

Catch blue crabs or try for a fish off the dock, enjoy our saltwater pool, or use our kayaks and canoe to explore the cove and marshes. Bring your own motorboat and use the boat ramp just four miles away for Chesapeake Bay fishing (no license required if fishing from the Morley's Wharf dock). Venture out to one of several recommended hiking trails. The fall season brings lovely colors, and occasionally we get snowed in during winter months, a real treat!

Our modern cottage features a comfortable queen size bed; bathroom with shower; robes, toiletries, beach towels, ceiling fans, free WiFi, A/C, satellite TV-DVD, CD/radio and extra outlets with USB charging ports. In the morning, enjoy coffee on the porch or the dock overlooking our tranquil view.

Our coastal decor includes locally-designed dinnerware decorated with blue crabs. We have a fully-loaded kitchen where you can steam your own crabs and prepare all meals. The cottage also has lots of board games, DVDs, CDs, books and a washer/dryer. Great front porch with tables and chairs to enjoy the water view, along with a charcoal grill (we supply charcoal).

SORRY but no pets and no smoking. SPECIAL NOTE: We RARELY see a mosquito! Sometimes no-see-ums or biting flies in May, but we have insect repellent if needed.

Guest access

Feel free to enjoy our saltwater swimming pool, open top kayaks and a canoe, along with crabbing off the dock and several outdoor table areas. Fishing gear if needed. We have beach towels, small cooler, beach chairs and umbrella for use at the sandy beach at Cape Charles, Kiptopeke State Park, Savage Neck Dunes or other areas.

Interaction with guests

Our typical summertime guest experience involves us helping you catch crabs, teaching you how to cook and pick out the meat, and working together (frequently) to pick out the meat. Jim will be thrilled to show you how to make crab cakes! We are usually around, so feel free to ask questions or join us for a chat on the porch. Fall thru spring, enjoy the peacefulness!

Other things to note

We are off the beaten track, about half an hour north of Cape Charles where there's a public sandy beach, 20 miles from Onancock, and an hour south of Chincoteague and Assateague Island, where the wild ponies roam. We are pleased to offer restaurant and tourism information, or lessons in crabbing, kayaking or fishing.

We are located five minutes from YMCA Camp Silver Beach and eight miles from Exmore where there is a grocery store, liquor store and a pharmacy. Restaurant recommendations are 10-22 miles away. We have an award-winning local winery (Chatham Vineyards), a huge antique mall (Blue Crow Antique Mall) and many quaint and charming villages for you to explore.

Awesome find! Right on the water so the views are second to none. The cottage is stocked with all the little things you may forget, from bug spray to Aleve. I highly recommend this cottage to anyone who is looking to get away from it all! While you're here, you'll have to try one of their crab cakes...they are truly a little piece of heaven :)

My husband and I were married just a week ago and decided to spend our honeymoon at Pamela's Baytop Cottage. The setting was serene, the cottage was immaculate and cozy, but the thing that endeared us the most was the warmth and hospitality from Pamela, her husband and their playful pup. We hope to return for our first anniversary, if not sooner. Thank you for making our honeymoon so pleasant and memorable!

We had a wonderful time staying with Pamela & Jim at Baytop. For us, this was a classic August getaway from the heat and activity of the city and Baytop exactly hit the spot. Bring everything you need, because unless you want to hit up a sandy beach there is truly no reason to leave during your stay. I could drool over how fantastic Baytop is, but I think it's mostly been said in the reviews already. One thing we really appreciated was the privacy. Their property is of such a size that if you don't want, your paths won't cross with anyone else at all. However, I wouldn't recommend that approach. Both Pamela and Jim are wonderful folks and we enjoyed hearing some of their stories. We would come back and stay here again in an instant!

Pamela and Jim's cottage provides a quiet, tranquil vacation on the Eastern shore. Their cottage sits on the edge of a Nassawadox River cove. Osprey nest a couple hundred yards out from shore. Herons, laughing gulls, and the occasional Great Egrit fly by. Hermit crabs line the tide's edge, scurrying frantically to safety at the sound of footfall or kayak paddles. Blue crabs meander into Jim's traps, the makings of the best crab cakes you'll ever eat. We saw no other people over five days. The solitude was magnificent. Just us and the natural world, as it might have been a decade or century ago. But strangely bug free. For whatever reasons of micro-climate, we saw only a few gnats, but no mosquitoes during our five-day visit. The cottage itself is a comfortable, cozy living space, air-conditioned and well-stocked. The wifi is solid, and there are lots of Netflix/Amazon Prime/Hulu options for late evening entertainment. Taking our host's advice, we took a day trip to Savage Dunes State Nature Preserve. We were the only folks on the trail. The tiger beetles are a bit underwhelming, but we spotted a ghost crab, an intriguing sight. And the 50-foot-high dunes and driftwood are seaside nature at its best. The kayaking around the cottage can't be beat. The bay waters are calm, sometimes mirror smooth. Paddling is easy. Back at the cabin, we read and relaxed at and in the salt-water pool. Perhaps the highlight of the trip, next to the kayaking, was pulling in crabs -- we caught about a dozen -- steaming them, picking them and then making our own fresh crab cakes, using spices and a recipe that Pam provided. Nothing in restaurants compares. Pam and Jim are thoughtful, helpful hosts. We highly recommend their vacation cottage.

If you were able to stay in the Baytop Cottage experience is just what the relaxation doctor ordered. Such a peaceful time. Pam and Jim and now their newest family addition Bella have been put on this Earth to be B&B Hosts. You seriously don't need to bring much but what you want for lunch and dinner and your clothes. We took advantage of the canoes, hanging out on the dock, and crabbing. Perfect getaway for my husband and I while my kids were at Camp Silver Beach. We called it Parents summer camp. We will be back, no doubt. And only a little over an hour from Virginia Beach and 7 minutes from Camp Silver Beach.

We had an AMAZING stay at the cottage with Pam and Jim. They were so welcoming and provided everything we could have wanted for a long weekend on the water. The cottage is beautiful, well kept, well stocked, well decorated - I can't say enough good things about it. We enjoyed plenty of kayaking around their awesome cove, crabbing and fishing off the dock, and just relaxing on the porch with a view of the water. I would absolutely stay here again and recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful vacation with gracious & hospitable hosts. It was exactly what we were looking for :)

We decided to share our secluded waterfront property with travelers who seek peace, quiet and privacy. We're located on a waterfront cove off a larger saltwater creek leading to the Chesapeake Bay. We created a nationally-known specialty food business called Blue Crab Bay Co. and we share our products with you while you're our guests. We enjoy crabbing (we'll teach you how), boating, fishing, hanging out by our pool in the summer and playing with our friendly standard poodle, Bella. Crabbing is always great from our dock during summer months, while fishing is best in the fall. One recent November we caught quite a few red drum from our dock, along with my 22" speckled trout! You may use our kayaks and canoe for fun within our cove. For longer distances, rental kayaks can be delivered. We enjoy camping in our Winnebago View and we have an electric hookup available if you need to park a small RV. When we travel, we seek privacy, great fishing opportunities and a chance to make new friends. We've fished in Alaska, Chile, Scotland, New Zealand, Costa Rica, British Columbia, Bimini and many other spots (including a cargo ship in French Polynesia!) and would love to swap fishing stories with you.
