Take a break on our private waterfront peninsula on Virginia's Eastern Shore, convenient to the quaint towns of Cape Charles or Onancock, an hour from Virginia Beach or Chincoteague. We offer a quiet retreat with a modern one bedroom cottage, dock, saltwater pool (seasonal), kayaks and canoe. It's an oasis in the middle of nowhere and ideal for birding!

The space
Enjoy a peaceful vacation any time of the year on our private, secluded waterfront peninsula overlooking a tidal saltwater creek with breathtaking views. You’ll likely spot great blue herons, osprey, egrets, bald eagles, deer or wild turkey. Our modern one bedroom cottage features a great room (kitchen/den), bedroom with queen bed, bath with shower, walk in closet, laundry room and front porch overlooking the water. It accommodates two adults and makes an ideal couple's escape.

Catch blue crabs or enjoy our saltwater pool in the summer months, or try for a fish off the dock in the fall; use our kayaks and canoe to explore the creek, cove and marshes. Bring your own motorboat and use the boat ramp just four miles away for Chesapeake Bay fishing (no license required if fishing from the Morley's Wharf dock). Venture out to one of several recommended hiking trails. The fall season brings lovely colors, and occasionally we get snowed in during winter months, a real treat!

Our modern cottage features a lot of unexpected amenities including robes, toiletries, beach towels, ceiling fans, WiFi, A/C, Dish Network, DVD, CD/radio and USB charging ports. In the morning, enjoy coffee on the porch or the dock overlooking our tranquil view.

Steam your own crabs and prepare meals in the well-equipped kitchen or call for pizza delivery. There are board games, DVDs, CDs and books to read in the hammock. Front porch overlooking the water has tables and chairs, along with a charcoal grill (we supply charcoal).

SPECIAL NOTES: SORRY but no pets, no small kids and no smoking. We RARELY see a mosquito! Sometimes small knats or biting flies in May, but we have insect repellent if needed. We have a friendly standard poodle who will keep you company, so we hope you LOVE dogs. We thoroughly sanitize all surfaces in the cottage between guests.

Guest access
Feel free to enjoy our saltwater swimming pool or catch crabs from the dock (early June thru mid-Sept), open top single person kayaks and a two person canoe, hammock and several outdoor table areas. Fishing gear if needed. We have beach towels, small cooler, beach chairs and umbrella for use at the sandy beaches at Cape Charles, Kiptopeke State Park, Savage Neck Dunes or other areas. Anytime you need us, just call, text or walk around to the screen porch at the end of our home.

Other things to note
We are off the beaten track, about half an hour north of Cape Charles where there's a public sandy beach, 20 miles south of Onancock, and an hour south of Chincoteague and Assateague Island, where the wild ponies roam. We are eight miles from Exmore which has the closest grocery store, liquor store, banks and pharmacy. Restaurants are 8-22 miles away. There's an award-winning winery (Chatham Vineyards), a huge antique mall (Blue Crow Antique Mall) and many quaint and charming villages for you to explore.

We have a friendly black standard poodle who loves hanging out with guests on the cottage porch or dock. We strive to keep the cottage free of smoke and pet dander for allergy sufferers, so no smoking, no pets and PLEASE leave your cologne/perfume at home.

Contact us about availability or check out the Airbnb calendar. Rates are generally lower from fall through spring and we are amenable to lower rates for longer off-season stays. Once you have confirmed your stay, we will email lots of helpful information. We have room for your boat and small RV parking as we are RV'ers ourselves (Winnebago View). An additional charge per night for RVs would apply, please inquire.

Location

Exmore, Virginia, United States

Our location is so secluded that most of our guests don't want to leave once they get here (HINT: bring food). The dead end paved road by our driveway has very little traffic and is great for biking or hiking. We are eight miles from U.S. Route 13, the major north-south thoroughfare on Virginia's Eastern Shore. Virginia Beach is an hour south, across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. Our guests enjoy driving south to the charming beach town of Cape Charles or north to Onancock, both waterfront villages with shops, galleries and restaurants.

We retired and decided to share our secluded waterfront property with travelers seeking peace, quiet and privacy. We're located on a cove off a larger saltwater creek leading to the Chesapeake Bay. Pam founded a nationally-known specialty food business called Blue Crab Bay Co. in 1985 (sold in 2016). We enjoy crabbing (we'll teach you how), boating, fishing, hanging out by our pool in the summer and playing with our friendly standard poodle, Bella. Crabbing is great from our dock during summer months, while fishing is best in the fall. One November we caught quite a few red drum, along with my 22" speckled trout! We enjoy camping in our class C Winnebago motorhome and we have an electric hookup available if you need to park a small RV. When we travel, we seek privacy, great fishing opportunities and a chance to make new friends. We've fished in Alaska, Chile, Scotland, New Zealand, Costa Rica, British Columbia, Bimini and many other spots (including a cargo ship in French Polynesia!) and would love to swap fishing stories or share a glass of wine with you.

During your stay
Our summertime guest experience frequently involves us showing guests how to catch, cook and pick crabs. We are usually around, so feel free to ask questions or join us for a chat on our screened porch or dock (unless we are still social distancing.)
