The Space

This is a great opportunity to be in a beautiful and artistic environment, since Santa Teresa is known as the home for the artists in Rio. I live in a house located in the historical neighborhood of Santa Teresa, with lots of green around in a very peaceful place. It’s a charming area, with bars and restaurants. Very near to the best spots in the neighborhood (stores, restaurants and bars), only 10 minutes by taxi or 20 minutes walk from Lapa (the most bohemian neighborhood in Rio) you will be staying at a quiet street, in a pleasant house, with an yard and a backyard to relax.

House Description: a living room, one bathroom, a kitchen, a yard with flowers and plants, a laundry and internet.
The house is located next to Largo das Neves. The transport (bus and taxi) is around 50 meters from my house.

  • Vera was such a sweet host! Just upon arrival, she showed me around the neighborhood and invited me to have a beer with her friends. On my last day at her place, she helped call the airport taxi for me, and we hugged goodbye. Don't get scared of the house rules! Vera was very easy to communicate with, and she made sure everything was in order. Would recommend to stay at her place!

  • Vera has a lovely, clean house in the beautiful Santa Teresa. Me and my friend had a great stay, couldn't ask for more. Vera is a great hostess and Rio de Janeiro is an amazing city! Would totally go back!

  • Vera was a sweetheart. She was out at work or functions much of the time, but was helpful and answered questions whenever we asked. She also had wifi set up that we could use with our iPad (perhaps it was a coincidence that it happened when we asked for it, but regardless, it was useful).

Her place is clean and tidy. She's got a lovely little courtyard in the front with a table, chairs, umbrella, and surrounded by flowers. Her house rules are posted clearly around, in the bedroom and the bathroom, and are not unreasonable, basically asking you to clean up after yourself.

The location was great for us - within 35 minute walking distance to Lapa (where there are several bars and restaurants, and during Carnaval, that's where the crazy street parties were held), though it took a little longer going home, as you have to go up 2 killer staircases - not recommended in heels.

We felt pretty safe in the area, even walking just us 2 ladies in the night. During the day parts of Santa Teresa would become busy, filled with tourists. We carried purses with our cameras inside, but didn't flaunt them, and felt comfortable. At night, we did not take purses at all, nor cameras, particularly when we went to Lapa, where my friend's camera was stolen from her closed purse during one of the craziest street parties.

Unfortunately the Bonde (tram) that used to run through the streets of Santa Teresa no longer runs since about 3 months ago as there was a serious accident. So there are busses that go directly from Centro (downtown) to very close to Vera's place, reasonably priced (2,75 reals).

All in all, I would recommend staying at Vera's, it's simple, clean, and she's lovely.

  • Salve,

  • I loved staying with Vera. Her house was just as it appeared in the photos and description. It was clean, cheerful and just steps away from the bonde and walking distance to the restaurants and bars and restaurants of Santa Teresa. Vera was an amazing host and extremely hospitable. I look forward to visiting with her more as a friend. She is amazingly warm-hearted and a wonderful person to talk to and spend time with. I hope to stay with Vera again. Most of all, I can't wait to keep in touch with her as a friend
