I wanted to share with you my thoughts on our stay at your Bow Common flat. My wife and I had never used AirBNB before to book an accommodation so perhaps our expectations were not in line with the reality of the services or product. However, I must say we have rented our private residence out to AirBNB customers and made sure that at least the bare necessities were in proper working order before the guests arrived. Unfortunately, I cannot say that simple, common sense accomodation was not met at your flat. Here are things that did not work properly in the flat during our stay; 1. HOT WATER. No hot water in the shower unless we turned the hot-cold adjustment know to full hot, which would in itself not be a convenience but merely an oddity. However, once in the all-hot position the water literally dribbled out of the shower head making it impossible to get a decent shower. 2. TELEVISION. The television was unplugged and in disarray when we arrived. Despite my best efforts I was unable to make the right connections to get it working. First we were advised that the cleaning crew had disconnected it whilst cleaning and they pop by to fix it right up. When they arrived days later, they looked at it and said the problem was with the antenna, that it had been blown down by a storm or wind such other natural disaster. How long that happened before we had arrived is unknown by me but it seems to me if the problem was known an easy fix would have been to call the cable company and get it taken care of before we arrived. In our instance, not only did that not happen but no efforts at all were made to get it repaired during our visit. 3. INTERNET. The internet only intermittently worked. I spent countless vacation hours trying to get a decent signal to send important business emails. In retrospect, I suspect I looked comical wandering around the flat, computer in hand, looking for the perfect spot to click the send button. In today's world, at least mine, the internet is an "essential" it is my contact with my office, my family and the news of the world. Not having a ready and reliable access is quite off-putting. 4. KITCHEN SINK. Towards the end of our stay the kitchen sink would not turn off. Water continued to pour out of the tap depite our best efforts to stay the flow. Eventually, with the help of your resident staff we were able to stiop it by cutting off all hot water to the flat. This problem was not fixed during our stay. I hope it is fixed now. It is my belief that most of these issues issues could have been discovered and dealt with before our arrival and those that couldn't could have been resolved by immediately calling the appropriate provider or repair person, i.e. cable company, plumber,...
we spent 9 days in this nice appartment which is very convenient for four people. Location is ideal, very close to the tube station of Mile End, and just 2 minutes from the park of Tower Hamlets cemetery.
We recommand it.
We have'nt seen neither Mark, nor Marc, but Alexis and Joe, who where very helpful and nice.
I've been here for a long week end with my family (wife + 2 children). It was great!. The house is really confortable and nice. Warning: If you arrive with the tube at mile end station, you will find that bow common lane street numbers decrease and then increase again! The door is on the left just after the bridge. I recommend it!
We had a very good stay at the Bow Cottage, conveniently located at a short 10 minutes walk from the tube and bus station. We enjoyed the well equiped kitchen and comfortable living room.
The shower would need some fixing, as it is very difficult to find the right temperature and the water pressure is too low.
The place is great for 4 people, but a bit tight for 5 (especially for sleeping).
Alexis, the building manager, was very nice and welcoming. We enjoyed some cookies the owner nicely left for us.
Finally, the apartment could be cleaner if the right equipment was provided (vaccum cleaner, dustpan).
That being said, we enjoyed the place a lot for our girls' weekend in London! Thank you!
I enjoyed my stay at Bow cottage. It's really cute, yes, and everything is well organized and clean. Ok, it's a little bit off the "centre", in deep East London beside the railway and a car wash, but you are at St. Paul's after a 10 minute walk and a 15 minute ride on the fast tube. Bow cottage is comfortable, spacey and well equipped (WiFi, TV, kitchen stuff, hairdryer), and the onsight manager Alexis was always available when I needed him.
I had some problems with the key for the outer door; it was quite difficult to find the right position in the lock to be able turn it, sometimes it took me a minute. No big deal, but they should replace it. They definitely should replace the shower as others already wrote here - some parts werde broken (Dec. 9th to 12th 2013), I couldn't hang it over my head, but had to keep it in the hand. And really annoying: It was nearly impossible to set a comfortable water temperature in the shower - either too hot (burning!) or to cold (freezing!). Only with a very thin water trickle I got the right temperature. So: with a new key and and a fixed shower Bow cottage would be a nice, calm retreat from noisy and hectic London!
Very nice and cozy place. We stayed there for two weeks in November. If you want to go at winter time be prepared to take warm clothes with you. You want be able to walk around the apartment with your bare feet or wearing shorts and t-shirt. But it’s the only thing we didn’t like. Actually a house is great and it’s really close to the tube, about five minutes by walking. There a few food stores that you can find nearby if you need some groceries. In the apartment you’ll find everything you need. And of course very nice neighbors that live next door.
On the board in Mark's house there's a phrase that perfectly explains how we lived this experience: "We wanted a house, we found a home". That perfectly summarizes what we had!
The house is really pretty, the pictures explain perfectly the size of the rooms, the tube is close (10 minutes on foot), the kitchen is very comfortable and there's a wonderful entrance to the cottage... I think that during the summer the whole place is breath taking!
Mark has a beautiful place and Marc (the guy who helped us during our stay) is very kind, helpful and he gave us advice.
I totally recommend this place! Yes !
Very beautiful cottage. We were 3, it was a warmy house, very comfortable. There is everything you need to spend a wondeful time with your friends or family.
It's not far from the Mile End station tube (7 mn once you find the shorter way to go) and It's 5 mn away from Nisalocal Supermarket and 10-15 mn away from Lidl or Tesco.
I recommand this cottage and will go back!
Thank you Mark again!!
We, my husband, my 7months old son and myself, stayed in Bow-Cottage for one week. What I can say, except that it was one of our best holidays. Every day it felt like we were coming home.
The cottage is very spacious. The furniture is plain but functional. The cottage really meets all your necessities. Even though it is near the rails, you cannot hear the trains at all. It is true what was written about the shower. However once you have found the right temperature there were no problems.
Mile End tube station is about 10min walk. If you want to shorten it by 3 to 4mins walk through the Tower Hamlets Cemetry Park.
There is also a Lidl and a Tesco Express near the cottage.
All in all we can only reccommend Bow Cottage. It is a very special place with lots of character.
Horrific check in. The host wasnt contactable at all. Very dissapointed. Just not on. Il email airbnb to get our money back.
