About This Listing
Please be aware that the house you are booking is an old house. It has not been recently remodeled and it will be considered by most people to be 'messy'.
All guests can expect a freshly vacuumed room with clean linens and towels, but the living areas outside of your room will not necessarily be 'spic-and-span' and so if this is something that would bother you then please inquire elsewhere.
For guests that do book, we kindly ask that if you write a review for the room after your stay, for the cleanliness rating, from one to five stars, please rate us at least a 4 as a courtesy to us for the value that we are offering.
While our lodgings may not personally meet your standards of 4 out of 5, guests know prior to booking that the place has character. We are simply requesting a favor of you in exchange for a quiet and cheap stay in the heart of Cambridge and if you are not willing to give us the benefit of the doubt in this matter please book elsewhere.
We are located in the Middle of Cambridge, 3 blocks from the Red Line Subway Stop at Central Square. Walking distance to MIT, Harvard, restaurants, bars, internet cafes, yoga and dance studios, night life, library, wide variety of restaurants, Harvest Food Co-Op, Whole Foods, and Star Market. Despite proximity to dense, urban, happening location, the house is peaceful and quiet and the neighborhood is very safe. Central Square is a colorful and fun part of historic Boston. If you are looking to get downtown you can take the #1 bus which goes down Mass Ave, take the Red Line "T" 4 stops to Park Street, or you can even just take a leisurely walk over one of the bridges that cross the scenic Charles River. We often go on walks from here to various areas in downtown Boston for fun and exercise. Cambridge is also worth visiting all by itself. Harvard Square is an easy 15-minute walk from us.
Our house offers casual, friendly, basic accommodations, and is furnished. This listing is for one of 2 rooms in the downstairs apartment which has one common bathroom with tub, a living room, and a kitchen. There is a communal refrigerator, stove, toaster-oven, couches, kitchen sink, pots n pans, dishes...and of course, the all important: WiFi. You will see the other rooms listed separately on this website.
Guests who stay downstairs are more than welcome to hang out in the common areas upstairs if the downstairs feels too "lived in" for your taste. The owner Adam lives in the downstairs part of the house with his son Gabe, while the upstairs apartment is entirely for guests and has its own entrance. You will probably meet some fellow travelers, as we often have a full house.
If you are bringing a car you must let us know that in advance. We do have one or two flexible parking spaces in front of the house and may be able to accommodate you. But Absolutely and UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES is it permissible to park in the lot behind the house, EVER, not for any amount of time! This could result in immediate expulsion! Please do not put your car anywhere other than where is previously agreed upon or you could lose your reservation with us on the spot!
Please also try to give us an idea of when you will be arriving. If it's impractical to greet you we will put out a key. We can't stay home all day every day and so if booking please include expected arrival time. If you need to check-out in the late afternoon or evening then tell us how late in case somebody is checking in on the day you want to leave. You can always store your luggage with us and come back and get it later.
One last thing, we are often adding $5 extra to the cost for booking for only one night since we receive dozens of requests for solo nights and it turns out to be inadequate return for the effort involved.
Checkout Time is 11:00 AM. If you have plans to stay later than this, you may leave your luggage and personal belongings in a closet or common area but please vacate your room by 11AM so that we can clean and prepare it for the next house guests.
Smoking outside. Singing allowed.
Upstairs Living Room (Downstairs Guests Have Full Access to Both Upstairs and Downstairs Living Rooms)
I had a great experience at this airbnb. First off, I ended up being placed in a different room, which was awesome because it was the owner's apothecary workshop! I loved being in there, even though I know little about "alternative" medicine it was invigorating just being in the room. The location is superb, being 2 blocks from Mass Ave and ~1 mile from Harvard Square. Its definitely not the cleanest place, but it never felt gross, just highly used.
Gabe was very helpful throughout the time. When I decided to reschedule and cut my time at the airbnb short (as I had found a place to live) he helped me make sure the refund process went through.
When I came, the place had space for me to park, which was great. Even though the parking was a bit challenging (luckily I have a small car), having parking at all was a major plus.
For the price, you pretty much can't do better than this staying in Cambridge, at least on airbnb.
This was a great place to crash for a couple of nights, especially for people on a budget. The neighbourhood was nice and there was plenty of pubs and shops within walking distance. The subway station was only a short walk and you could be in the centre of Boston in a couple of minutes. Initially I was concerned that it may not be safe in the neighbourhood at night, but it was actually fine and I was able to get the late subway back at 1am.
Adam, the host, kept to himself but seemed to be a nice guy and was there to show me around the house a bit.
The room served its purpose of somewhere to crash and keep luggage safe while exploring the city.
It was a good deal for the price! There are some small things that might bother some people, but Alissa is very up front with this in the description; no complaints.
This place is very centrally located. Has a good proximity to subway station. Also the area around the place is good and lot of things to do here. Plus it is a cheap place to stay. The house has eclectic decoration and was nice to see that.
The only point was I did not feel at home as at other AirBnB reservations I made. Reason, after you book, I feel that you are pretty much on your own. Alisaa was not there, my host was Adam.
The place was kooky, but I liked it! Comfortable bed and friendly host, but could be somewhat noisy at time since you're one door over from another occupied room and the window outside leads to a back parking lot (that turned into a gathering place for some people on a Friday night). Otherwise, go for it!
This is a very casual spot, with a lot of people passing through. They are upfront in the ad, it is a small room, and the house isn't tidy. I think this spot would work best as a place to crash for a night, but the location is great, if you're there for a few days. It is close to a lot of food, little shops, and the train.
There is very little privacy, since the living room is right outside of the door. You can hear everything. Also, the mattress is on a piece of wood, which was kind of uncomfortable.
I don't think Alissa lives there anymore, and Adam has taken over. He was nice enough to give thoughtful suggestions when I asked.
