The space

Please be aware that the house you are booking is an old house. It has not been recently remodeled and it will be considered by most people to be 'messy'.

All guests can expect a freshly vacuumed room with clean linens and towels, but the living areas outside of your room will not necessarily be 'spic-and-span' and so if this is something that would bother you then please inquire elsewhere.

For guests that do book, we kindly ask that if you write a review for the room after your stay, for the cleanliness rating, from one to five stars, please rate us at least a 4 as a courtesy to us for the value that we are offering.

While our lodgings may not personally meet your standards of 4 out of 5, guests know prior to booking that the place has character. We are simply requesting a favor of you in exchange for a quiet and cheap stay in the heart of Cambridge and if you are not willing to give us the benefit of the doubt in this matter please book elsewhere.

We are located in the Middle of Cambridge, 3 blocks from the Red Line Subway Stop at Central Square. Walking distance to MIT, Harvard, restaurants, bars, internet cafes, yoga and dance studios, night life, library, wide variety of restaurants, Harvest Food Co-Op, Whole Foods, and Star Market. Despite proximity to dense, urban, happening location, the house is peaceful and quiet and the neighborhood is very safe. Central Square is a colorful and fun part of historic Boston. If you are looking to get downtown you can take the #1 bus which goes down Mass Ave, take the Red Line "T" 4 stops to Park Street, or you can even just take a leisurely walk over one of the bridges that cross the scenic Charles River. We often go on walks from here to various areas in downtown Boston for fun and exercise. Cambridge is also worth visiting all by itself. Harvard Square is an easy 15-minute walk from us.
Our house offers casual, friendly, basic accommodations, and is furnished. This listing is for one of 2 rooms in the downstairs apartment which has one common bathroom with tub, a living room, and a kitchen. There is a communal refrigerator, stove, toaster-oven, couches, kitchen sink, pots n pans, dishes...and of course, the all important: WiFi. You will see the other rooms listed separately on this website.

Guests who stay downstairs are more than welcome to hang out in the common areas upstairs if the downstairs feels too "lived in" for your taste. The owner Adam lives in the downstairs part of the house with his son Gabe, while the upstairs apartment is entirely for guests and has its own entrance. You will probably meet some fellow travelers, as we often have a full house.

If you are bringing a car you must let us know that in advance. We do have one or two flexible parking spaces in front of the house and may be able to accommodate you. But Absolutely and UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES is it permissible to park in the lot behind the house, EVER, not for any amount of time! This could result in immediate expulsion! Please do not put your car anywhere other than where is previously agreed upon or you could lose your reservation with us on the spot!

Please also try to give us an idea of when you will be arriving. If it's impractical to greet you we will put out a key. We can't stay home all day every day and so if booking please include expected arrival time. If you need to check-out in the late afternoon or evening then tell us how late in case somebody is checking in on the day you want to leave. You can always store your luggage with us and come back and get it later.

One last thing, we are often adding $5 extra to the cost for booking for only one night since we receive dozens of requests for solo nights and it turns out to be inadequate return for the effort involved.

The place is very homely and welcoming, even if it's a little small. But the hosts make up for it, and we're very warm and helpful anytime!

If you just need a place to sleep and shower, you cant beat this place! Super close to the transit system and restaurants and shops. The bedroom was clean but the common areas not so much. That being said, it was perfect for me as I just needed a bed and a shower.

It's a inexpensive place to stay, but very cluttered and messy. I didn't really get a warm atmosphere.

Not your top of the line fancy Airbnb. Very low cost low maintenance place in Cambridge which makes public transport super convenient. It's a good place for the amount of money you spend.

I like Adam and his place. There are 3 upstairs rooms for rent and a common living room and kitchen with a private entrance. There is a common bathroom/shower that the 3 upstairs rooms share. I liked having all the space and the use of the the living room and kitchen. The place is funky and everything is pretty old, but completely usable. Every little thing has a do-it-yourself repair quality to it. It's winter and the place was cold. All heating was by electric heater and there was one in the kitchen, living room, bathroom and each bathroom (which must unfortunately be costing Adam a fortune). I turned the heater off at night and slept in my sleeping bag which kept me warm and comfy. I worry that I would have been cold without it. The rooms lock with a simple padlock from the outside and with a hook on the inside. I felt secure enough, but I wonder if female travelers or more paranoid travelers might not feel as secure - i wish that there had been an internal deadbolt on each door. The bathroom fixtures are old, but practical enough. The living room is spacious and the kitchen is decent and usable. I kept things in the fridge the week that I was there. I would have stayed longer, but Adam wanted to raise the rent on my to $35/night for the second week and I thought that this was more than it was worth considering other AirBNB and hostel options in Boston which are in the $25-30/night range. I did have a funny situation where I came home and noticed that two beers from my six-pack were missing. Adam brought up the topic and apologized and then returned one of his own beers (a different kind) to my six pack the next day, which I thought was very civilized. If you need to stay in Central Cambridge this is decent budget option. Accommodation could use some renovation and improvements, but if you can deal with cheap and low brow, you might just like this place.

It`s a great place to live in Cambridge. The location is amazing. The decoration of the house is very unique. The surroundings are quite and safe. It`s not a very big room, but it is very cozy and has everything you need, bed, desk, chair, window, even a book shelf. And the price is unbeatable.

This place is awesome! It is very close to the central station but still in a quiet and safe neighborhood. There are many restaurants and some supermarkets close by, but as I lived there Adam had enough food at home so I didn't have to buy anything. There is a lot to discover at this house and it's easy to feel like home there, plus I've always been in good company as Adam, Gabe and Alissa were around most of the time. I would definitely stay there again! :)

Alissa is staying in California permanently now and I'm Adam and I'm taking over hosting at Fisk place. I like to read a lot and I'm into politics and herbal medicine. I've traveled quite a bit all over the world and I like talking to people and hearing their stories. I studied English literature in school and I know a little bit of science.
