The Space

Located in quiet Leafy Edge Hill yet only a short distance from Airport. Close to local Edge Hill Cafes, Restaurants, Botanical Gardens, Art Galleries (500m). Esplanade only (3km) Lagoon (5km) The City is 10 min drive for shopping, cafes and restaurants. Trips to the Great Barrier Reef launch from the Marina in town (5km)
Our home has been renovated inside and is great to relax in with comfort in mind. Polished wood floors Moran Leather Lounges Wifi Internet and TV. Kitchen Recently renovated with Stainless Steel Appliances French Door Fridge w ice/water. 6 burner Gas Stove. Automatic Coffee Machine. Look out from the Dining area over the garden and rainforest.
Modern Bathroom tiled with Natural Travertine with frameless Showerscreen with Rain Shower Head to soothe those aches away.
Comfortable Brand New Split King Bed and bunks in 2 bedrooms. Additional Sofa Bed available. Can sleep up to 6.

Airport pick up can be arranged with prior confirmation of flight details. Subject to availability.

Bus Stop 400m walk.
Secure Storage Area for bikes and/or car.
Ideally located to see the best of Cairns & to enjoy the tropics.

Guest Access

Guests are welcome to use the fully equipped kitchen. Living area. Laundry. Kitchen staples such as salt pepper, cooking oil, balsamic vinegar, condiments, butter etc are provided for your convenience.
Our home is a free standing home (not an apartment) so only one space with 1 group of guests at a time.
There is a private annexe off the house that has been locked off from the rest of the house. I do sometimes stopover if I can't return back to my farm or I have business to do in Cairns. But mostly I leave guests to their own devices and space. I am able to help guests with questions or advice over the phone.

Interaction with Guests

Most guests will have the use of the house for their exclusive use. We have a farm that is on the Atherton Tablelands, which means there is always work to do. After welcoming guests and answering any questions, you have a comfortable home to relax in and make your base whilst visiting the region. I am usually available to help you decide on what to visit and where good places are to eat etc. Whatever your preferences. Tourist maps and brochures are for you to use. I can assist with your transport arrangements, if needed.
It is important that guests have a telephone that they can be reached upon. Wifi in Australia is not available in as many places as you may expect. Though it is getting better. One of my previous guests found it particularly difficult when getting in touch with out internet access. I do generally find a quick phone call can sort out any issues.

The Neighborhood

Our hillside location is among typical Queenslander style homes. Expect leafy streetscapes and a quiet area convenient to visit the Botanic Gardens and The Tanks art precinct. The access to the airport, quick commute into town all the while a green landscape makes the Edge Hill area desirable for residents and visitors alike. We are spoilt for choice near our home. The reputation of Edge Hill cafés is for having the best coffee and best breakfasts in Cairns. Then arguably the best restaurants for fine dining with fresh local produce on the menu are located only a short 10min walk from our home. You will find a variety of birdlife visiting our yard which is often visited by the Ulysses butterfly, Cairns bird wing butterflies, willy wagtails, kookaburras, torresian imperial pigeon plus many more.

Getting Around

Transport from airport is by taxi about 10 min. Only $20-$25 AUD to our home. The only alternative is a shuttle bus that will take you to City Hotels. But as our house is closer to airport, this is uneconomical. Buses (Sunbus) are a 300m walk away. Taking passengers to city centre. Bus stop will be marked on map available.

Other Things to Note

We are always happy to share our knowledge of the area. We are still always wanting to explore and experience the beauty of the area. Our farm on the Tablelands we believe is in one of the most beautiful areas of the Far North. If you need information on what is a good reef trip or places to visit please just ask. If we don't know ourselves we can find out. If you are flying to Cairns and arriving on a morning flight you will have to consider that as my home can be fully booked throughout the high season your arrival at the home is limited to checkin time of 3pm. If you require the home from early morning and it is available the day before I suggest you book the night before your arrival. This home is a single dwelling full sized house of which there are no duplicates. So early checkin is almost invariably NOT available. As this impacts on guests leaving on which check out time is 11am. The time in between allows for a thorough clean and turnover subject to the level of cleanliness left. Please consider how you will fill in time and suggest heading into town to the Pier and Information Centre. Swimming at Lagoon a favourite. Some tours are good to do on the first day of arrival such as Skyrail and Kuranda Rail. Fittzroy Island ferry leaves at 9.30am Green Island leaving at 9am or 1pm. Breakfast essentials are provided to get you started in the morning.

House Rules

With Polished wood floors we ask you remove your shoes at the door.
We ask that smoking be only outdoors. Please do not keep or consume food in bedrooms. There is ample room in kitchen.
We have renovated the home with the environment in mind. Please ensure lights and fans are switched off if you leave our home to conserve electricity and lower our carbon footprint. The use of clothes dryer should be used at an absolute minimum. Clothes hoist are for use and usually will dry clothes overnight. If the clothes dryer is used extensively it will incur an extra fee payable on departure.
On departure please dispose of food rubbish in bin adjacent to laundry.
