Interaction with Guests
Most guests will have the use of the house for their exclusive use. We have a farm that is on the Atherton Tablelands, which means there is always work to do. After welcoming guests and answering any questions you have a comfortable home to relax in and make your base whilst visiting the region. I am usually available to help you decide on what to visit and where good places are to eat etc. Whatever your preferences. Tourist maps and brochures are for you to use. I can assist with your transport arrangements, if needed.
Our hillside location is among typical Queenslander style homes. Leafy streetscapes and quiet area along with convenience to cafes, visiting Botanic Gardens and short drive into the city, makes Edge Hill one of the best areas to live and stay.
Transport from airport is by taxi about 10 min. Only $20-$25 AUD to our home. The only alternative is a shuttle bus that will take you to City Hotels. But as our house is closer to airport, this is uneconomical. Buses (Sunbus) are a 300m walk away. Taking passengers to city centre. Bus stop will be marked on map available.
Other Things to Note
We are always happy to share our knowledge of the area. We are still always wanting to explore and experience the beauty of the area. Our farm on the Tablelands we believe is in one of the most beautiful areas of the Far North. If you need information on what is a good reef trip or places to visit please just ask. If we don't know ourselves we can find out. If you are flying to Cairns and arriving on a morning flight you will have to consider that as my home can be fully booked throughout the high season your arrival at the home is limited to checkin time of 3pm. If you require the home from early morning and it is available the day before I suggest you book the night before your arrival. This home is a single dwelling full sized house of which there are no duplicates. So early checkin is almost invariably NOT available. As this impacts on guests leaving on which check out time is 11am. The time in between allows for a thorough clean and turnover subject to the level of cleanliness left. Please consider how you will fill in time and suggest heading into town to the Pier and Information Centre. Swimming at Lagoon a favourite. Some tours are good to do on the first day of arrival such as Skyrail and Kuranda Rail. Fittzroy Island ferry leaves at 9.30am Green Island leaving at 9am or 1pm.
With Polished wood floors we ask you remove your shoes at the door.
We ask that smoking be only outdoors. Please do not keep or consume food in bedrooms. There is ample room in kitchen.
We have renovated the home with the environment in mind. Please ensure lights and fans are switched off if you leave our home to conserve electricity and lower our carbon footprint. The use of clothes dryer should be used at an absolute minimum. Clothes hoist are for use and usually will dry clothes overnight. If the clothes dryer is used extensively it will incur an extra fee payable on departure.
On departure please dispose of food rubbish in bin adjacent to laundry.
Karin documented us very well with maps, brochures, directions where to go etc. The house lies in a very quiet, charming surrounding with good connections to public transport facilities. It is very lovely furnished with lots of beautiful details making you really feel at home. A place to relax and to stay also for longer holidays. We strongly recommend Karin's place and we would always return.
For people interested in Aborigine culture the Tjapukai Cultural Centre is an absolute must to visit, plan for one full day.
Karen's house has a very big space and convenient location. Thanks for Karen preparing a bed for my child especially . We also met a little problem that windows must be close in such a hot day because no screen on windows without air conditioner. Karen is very kind to prepare the Mosquito-repellent incense for us. We really have good time in Karen's house.
Can't be better. Quiet and peaceful surroundings, Close to bus stop to the town center, lots of cafes and various styles of restaurants nearby. Above all, Karin is a most gracious host. Definitely a good place to recommend to u all.
We had a wonderful stay at Karin's house. It is a beautiful house that is fully equipped with everything you could need. The house is very clean and well maintained and in a lovely neighborhood with cafes and shops close by. Very enjoyable!
This was my first, and last, use of airbnb. The house itself was nice, clean and convenient for the botanical gardens, if a little warm in the evening: The problem was with our relationship with the host.
Firstly she left us hanging around in Darwin when she didn't answer her phone till after check-in. This wasn't a big problem as thankfully we have friends there, but it could have been.
Then, after we left, she sent a very irked email making three separate (and (in my opinion unjustified) complaints each with a separate file for compensation.
This is still ongoing and is a major pain in the arse.
It's lovely, stay there, but remember as far as Karin is concerned she's doing you a favour by letting you stay ('it's 30% cheaper than a hotel')
Our stay at Karins house was one of our highlights during our travels! I have traveled with 4 other people and none of us wanted to leave by the end of our stay!:) House is soooooo lovely, clean and has an amazing atmosphere, plus, location couldn't have been better.
Karin was helpful for our very first message and super fast with responding.
I would highly recommend this place!!!
Thank you Karin again for the great experience and your kind hospitality. xx
The Edge Hill house set-up is very nice. An easy walk to several great eating places and a bit of shopping. Also, a short bus or taxi ride to central Cairns. Of special note, there was many ceiling fans and floor fans to move air through the house with the windows open but no a/c. If you are heat sensitive then during the hot months you may opt for another home with a/c but otherwise a wonderful stay and great communication with host.

My partner Rick and I have traveled and worked extensively throughout Australia and Asia. We have experienced some of our best holiday memories when staying in special places with special people. So now we would like to offer the same. We enjoy the outdoors so with a small rainforest on our block we let the outdoors in rather than lock it out. We have renovated with the environment in mind. We encourage recycling. We are particularly conscious of our impact on the environment and we ask guests to respect our desire to conserve energy. We can suggest itineraries to tour the area catering for all different interests. We can also suggest some great places to visit that are not saturated by tourists that are little bits of paradise or even to our own farm with a crystal clear river on the boundary up in the Misty Mountains. Our Beef Cattle farm on the Tablelands is our other interest. Our desire is protect and preserve our land for the future. We are trying to also minimise our impact on our farmland by preventing erosion and eradicating weeds. Our River flows to the Great Barrier Reef so we take our farm practices seriously. We love our cattle and Harry the dog (Australian Cattle Dog) is a constant companion but he does not live indoors. We also love that we have Tree Kangaroos, the occasional Cassowary on our property at Millaa Millaa and in Cairns we still get visits in our rainforest from Torres Strait Pigeons, Scrubfowls and Bandicoots.
