Located In College Terrace: safe & charming neighborhood, low traffic, quiet. Two blocks from Stanford.
This is about as close as you can possibly get to Stanford campus without actually living on campus. Stays cool because of all the greenery around the cottage.
The house can comfortably fit three people (2 on the queen bed and 1 on the full futon in the living room). A fourth person can sometimes be accommodated by request.
NOTE: It's a "junior bedroom" which, means the bedroom is separated from the living room by a curtain. The curtain can be drawn for complete visual separation and privacy, but there is no wall separating it from the living room. Sound will carry from one space to the other.
The cottage is all yours. You're welcome to use the 27" iMac which also doubles as our TV (we only watch streaming content). Wifi is always available for your use. Washer and Dryer are in a closet space in the carport. Feel free to use them. Full range of kitchen appliances available. Feel free to buy and cook your own meals here.
Interaction with Guests
We make arrangements to get you into the cottage and we try to always be available by phone to resolve questions or concerns you may have.
The neighborhood is incredibly charming. Tree-lined, green, full of flowers, and unique little homes. It's absolutely worth wandering the neighborhood and seeing all the beautiful homes and cottages tucked in next to each other.
Nearby, free (and frequent) shuttle to anywhere on Stanford campus. 4-min bike-ride to California Ave. Caltrain station, restaurants, grocery & shops.
Fastest way to get around Stanford (8-minutes to center of campus). Also fastest way to get to the commercial part of California Ave. for Caltrain, shops, and restaurants (4-min by bike).
University Ave. and the rest of downtown is a 15-min bike ride through Stanford to the other side of campus.
Going to campus by foot is very easy. Walk two blocks to the free shuttle stop at the intersection of Bowdoin and Pine Hill. It's only a a five-minute walk. Take the "C" shuttle that winds through campus. Shuttles pass every 15 min during peak hours and every 30 min during slow hours.
You can walk to Cal Ave. Caltrain station in about 15 min.
Parking for one vehicle in carport. Plenty of street parking (but parking time limits exist). 6-min drive to University Ave and downtown Palo Alto.
BIKE USE: Helmets are available for your use. Be certain that you use the provided bike locks to lock up your bike at home and around town/campus. Bike theft is quite common if you present an unlocked target. Technically you can be ticketed for riding at night without attachable bike lights. I've seen it happen several times.
Other Things to Note
Stanford Campus is an easy bike ride away and if you are visiting you should absolutely cruise around the large and amazing campus. You'll find something interesting at every turn. Also the free Cantor Art Center Museum is not to be missed. Rodin sculptures abound!
For a little exercise you shouldn't miss the popular Stanford Dish Hiking trail just a few minutes away. Within easy running, biking or driving distance.
The commercial part of nearby California Ave is quieter and less pretentious than the busier University Ave across campus. Cal Ave is also home to our two favorite restaurants in town: Palo Alto Sol (Mexican), and La Bodeguita (Cuban).
Checkout by 11am unless otherwise arranged. We need time to clean up before the next guest arrives. Checkin after 3pm unless otherwise arranged.
We try to keep things as tidy as possible. Our lease does not allow smoking on the premises. No pets please. We live in a safe and friendly neighborhood where the lots are small and cozy so please keep music or patio conversation at a quiet level during the late hours so as not to disturb our neighbors in the rear of the lot and on either side of us.
This was an excellent rental. The cottage was incredibly pleasant. The directions were clear, but still made you feel like you were staying in a hotel. (Sometimes it seems more like you are intruding on someone.) The distance to Stanford Campus was excellent. The hosts were awesome, especially when we ran into a snafu with some keys. They also left a lovely little fruit basket :)
What a nice home! The space a inviting and extremely well appointed. A wonderfully calm place to stay with a lot of privacy.
Christian was a proactivly responsive host - made the stay easy!
Christian's cottage was great, no complaints at all! Met our expectations, as described. Location and neighborhood was what we needed. Highly recommend this place.
It's was a pleasant experience at the place. Everything is organized and clean.
The cottage was clean, inviting, and just as we expected from the visual and written descriptions on Airbnb. We both walked and biked to Stanford's campus, and a short walk to the farmer's market on Sunday was a delightful bonus. Christian was also patient when I had some new tech learning to do as we checked in. We highly recommend the cottage and its hosts.
I really enjoyed my stay at Christian's house. It was a truest homely home. Everything was very clean and prepared well for my stay. The location is great in regards to location near Stanford and many restaurant options. I would easily return for a future stay.
