It was wonderful being able to stay in such an historical villa in the heart of San Miguel! Our host did a great job renovating the building, while maintaining a great deal of authentic charm. Everything from the hand-carved stone-headed showers to the gorgeous waterfall shrine the the Virgin of Guadalupe gave the place the impression of being the heart of this very special city. We never would have imagined that the beautiful hand-painted pull-chain toilets would be a highlight... but they were!
Our host was nice, informative, and always available if we had any needs or questions. The Villa's housekeeper even came over early to make us fresh coffee and an authentic Mexican breakfast (in our gorgeously authentic Mexican kitchen, of course) each morning...delicious, and a great way to start the day in San Miguel.
Because of the original stone architecture of the building, WiFi was limited to a small radius around the front of the Villa (pretty much just the kitchen and dining room)... it didn't feel particularly out of place considering our surroundings, but something to consider if having wifi in your bedroom is a priority.
Thanks for everything Mike!
We had an amazing time. The host was very nice and he kept an eye on us during the whole stay to make sure everything was running smoothly. The house looks even better in person than in the pictures.
Michael greeted us and explained the heating system and how to use the showers. Susanna, the housekeeper, was a delight. The location is central and it is easy to get anywhere. The house is beautiful.
This house completely surpassed our expectations, as it is more beautiful in person! Every minute detail was truly appreciated and we loved everything about it. The view of the church is truly spectacular form the master bedroom's terrace, priceless in fact. Mike (Billy's father) was extremely attentive and helpful when we contacted him regarding some questions that we had and was on hand the entire weekend in case we needed anything and texted us on our last day to see how our stay had been. Mrs. Grimaldi (the housekeeper) was a pleasure to deal with and left us with milk, water, bananas, and "pan dulce" to snack on in case we got hungry. Every time we returned to Casa Lupita after sightseeing, our rooms had been made and we had clean and fresh towels. Overall, we would definitely recommend this house to anyone seeking that colonial vibe and seeking a beautiful place to stay!
It was truely a pleasure having Tania and her friends stay at the house
Hopefully they will stay in the future
As I told Tania the two large hot water heaters will handle 4 showers at once but for an additional 4 showers you need to allow the hotwater heaters to heat the water for the additional 4 showers, (aproximately 20 minutes) which is pretty much standard
Mike and Billy are great hosts.
The house is really bright and elegant. It has a lot of cute Mexican stuff that makes it really stylish. The house has all that you need in vacation to visit San Miguel It has very comfortable, baths and beds and is very clean.
The location as well is very good and walkable. This is really a wonderful place to stay.
They have an staff that could help you to cook (if you want it) with a excellent taste.
I´ll do it again.
The house was in a perfect location for exploring the town; however, we were surprised by the presence of a bird trapped in the living room upon on our arrival and small ants crawling all over the house (I saw them on the bedroom floors, walls and kitchen counter).
While the home is quintessentially colonial Mexico, I would not stay there again. The owner was challenging to deal with and was rather brash, if not rude (although I was not there to witness), to some of our party who are all clean, respectful people.
Its unfortunate that Jaqueline was unhappy with her stay at the house,I was unaware of this because she never told me. I think it merrrits mentioning that Jaqueline reserved my house on the 2 of April 2014 for occupancy the 29th,30th and 31st of Augost for 8 tenants. She notified me the 22nd of Augost that there would be 10 tenants having reserved for only 8 tenants . During her stay a lovely flower vase was broken. Nothing was ever mentioned by her about either of these issues. Everyone else that has stayed at the house have throughly enjoyed their stay. I can asure anyone who is going to be staying at the house that I or my help have never been rude or brash with any of our tennants, on the contrary, we are always polite and attentive with any issue regarding the house or the needs of the tenants and we are periodically checking with are tenants to make shure that all is well. My reviews from my previuos Airbnb tenants have all been excellent. I was never informed about the bird in the living room or the small ants in the kitchen. Ocassionally tenants leave the large livingroom doors/windows open and these go out to the patio, so I will admit once in a while a sparrow may come in but invariably they eventually go out. Bear in mind, this is an authentic1670 Mexican Colonial House; its not a modern hermetically sealed weather stripped house. All of the main entrance doors to the rooms open on to a central courtyard, so your better off leaving them closed. As Jaqueline stated she was not there to witness what I am being accused of and its all a complete surprise to me. Apparently one of the tenants was not happy It's unfortunate but everyone else has thurougly enjoyed thier stay and many have told me that they would like to stay once again in the future.
