About This Listing
My 1912 Craftsman-style bungalow. Entrance to guest suite is through the back yard. Driveway reserved for my guests.
Welcome to one of the Bay Area's most popular Airbnb accommodations. We were recently elevated to Superhost status, based on an overwhelming majority of 5-star reviews.
This is a private guest suite in the lower level of a Craftsman-style house in the sunny, popular Rockridge neighborhood.
Cozy bedroom with queen-size bed, four goose-down pillows and high-quality linen. Small bathroom with shower (no tub). Large living room/kitchen combination.
Private entrance. Peaceful, fully landscaped back yard with patio table, umbrella and chairs. Great for eating outdoors.
Your own parking space in my driveway.
The kitchen is equipped with refrigerator, microwave, gas stove, toaster, tea kettle and coffee maker. You'll have complimentary orange juice, bagels, cream cheese and butter, oatmeal, a pitcher of cold filtered water. Tea and coffee.
Rockridge is on the Oakland/Berkeley border. My house is two blocks from College Ave., which has dozens of restaurants and cafes, two bookstores, hair salons, gift shops, Trader Joe's market, a yoga studio and great transportation (BART station two blocks away).
You're a 5-minute walk from Market Hall, a great food emporium with a bakery, coffee house, gourmet deli, wine shop, produce market, florist, fish market and meat market.
You're two blocks from a BART train that takes you to San Francisco in 20 minutes or downtown/uptown Oakland in 8 minutes; and a bus that takes you directly to the U.C. Berkeley campus in 10 minutes. Easy freeway access to San Francisco, Marin County, Napa Valley, Silicon Valley.
I also provide lists of suggested restaurants and sights, guide books on San Francisco Bay Area for you to borrow. I've lived in the Bay Area 40 years and I know the area very well.
-- The ceilings in the guest suite are low: 6 and a half feet.
-- There may be a small amount of noise coming from upstairs where I live.
-- Living room sofa is 4.5 feet long, not big enough for sleeping.
-- No television.
-- I have a 4-year-old Labrador Retriever who will be in the back yard occasionally. She's the friendliest and prettiest dog on earth.
Interaction with Guests
My first priority is to give my guests as much privacy and quiet as you need. I'm also happy to be the concierge and share info about getting around the Bay Area, finding good restaurants, etc. I know what it's like to be a visitor in an unfamiliar place, and if I can make the logistics easier for you then that makes me feel great.
So close and accessible to San Francisco, but less expensive and a lot more manageable. We're generally 5 to 10 degrees warmer than S.F. Rockridge is a wonderful neighborhood for strolling. Trees, beautiful gardens. Great shops and restaurants.
-- Number one rule: Relax and enjoy yourselves!
-- No extra overnight guests. Two people maximum.
-- If you are booking for yourself and subsequently wish to add a second person, this has to be approv
ed in advance.
-- You'll be entering the guest suite through the back-yard garden. Make sure back-yard gate is closed tight at all times, so Lucy the dog doesn't get out.
-- No music or loud noise after 10 p.m.
-- No pets, tobacco or rowdy behavior.
-- Respect the property and keep it clean -- especially kitchen and bathroom.
-- Wash any dishes you use.
-- No red meat cooked in the house.
-- No dental floss, paper towels or feminine napkins in toilet. Only toilet paper.
Edward's flat is an absolutely wonderful stay. You're one block from the center of busy and fun Rockridge yet in a very quiet, garden setting. Both Edward and his sweet dog Lucy welcome you. You'll find flowers on the windowsill, along with breakfast staples and comfortable furnishings inside. It was perfect for my week's visit with family nearby. Book it and you'll be very glad you did.
Edward's place is very nice, well kept and clean. We found the place exactly how the pics show it. Edward was a great host. He gives lots of privacy but at the same time is very attentive. He was there to welcome us and give some info. The garden is the real gem, so peaceful and bright. We loved relaxing there and playing with Lucy (a sweat and beautiful dog). The place is very close to the BART station. We really enjoyed not to having to drive to SF (traffic is terrible). There are also many restaurants and shops few blocks away.
I highly recommend it and would stay again here on our next trip to this area.
Edward was very welcoming. The apartment was very clean and neat. The decor is pleasant. The bed is very comfortable; the bathroom is adequate. The kitchen is well equipped. Edward had a notebook with suggestions and helpful information on the area. The Rockridge town center is really nice and we appreciated Edward recommending it to us. We hope to stay there again when we visit the area next.
Lovely, private space in a beautiful neighborhood close to restaurants, groceries and shopping. The suite has everything a traveler could ask for - laundry, kitchen utensils, toiletries, and even breakfast. The backyard is available for your private use and beautifully landscaped. Edward was easy to communicate with and flexible accommodated us on short notice and his dog Lucy is a sweetheart. Would definitely stay here again.
I was very pleased with the accommodations. The back yard garden was very beautifully landscaped, quiet, shaded and serene, with an outdoor table and chairs, and it was lovely to have that private outdoor space to sit and enjoy a book and a cup of tea. Moving in through the apartment, Edward had really thought about details to make the stay both comfortable and welcoming. First, he was flexible with my arrival because of the timing of a graduation ceremony I was to attend. I was able to drop my luggage off and change my clothes and freshen up before the event about two hours before check-in time. Edwin was really gracious, telling me we'd make it (my request) work. And he did.
The bedroom was comfortable and beautifully appointed. There were extra blankets (Oakland was cool while I was there!), and a space heater to warm up the room in the morning. There were luggage racks, a dresser, and even a perhaps inadvertent side bench along one wall which turned out to be handy for placing cosmetics and accessories. The mattress was very comfortable. The room was beautifully appointed with art work and two gorgeous bedside lamps. There was also an open area to hang clothes and coats, and a hook for a handbag and scarf, very handy for seeing your clothing choices (as opposed to a closed-door closet). Also in the bedroom were maps and books on Oakland and San Francisco.
The kitchen/living area was also well-appointed and tastefully furnished. I loved the art work! Edward had left a scone and 2 bagels on the kitchen counter with my name on the bag (a really nice personal gesture) for breakfasts. There was coffee and cream, sugar and a choice of tea, plus cream cheese in the fridge for the bagels. Just thoughtful welcoming touches.
The location was super convenient to the Rockridge BART station, as well as Rockridge Market (a compendium of 12 upscale food shops under one roof) and the cute College Avenue shops. The house was situated on a beautiful street, craftsman-style houses, well-kept. And the gardens surrounding the houses, including Edward's, were gorgeous. I loved just walking around the neighborhood in my spare time.
All-in-all this was a welcoming place, made so by a thoughtful and generous host.
The listing was nothing but accurate! Thank you for hosting us over last week during UC Berkeley commencements. My partner and I had a great time and, we loved your bungalow. Edward, your breakfast and the selection of tea were delicious and I can’t stop thinking of the welcoming atmosphere you created for us. We hope to stay there again soon on our next Bay trip!
