About This Listing
My 1912 Craftsman-style bungalow. Entrance to guest suite is through the back yard. Driveway reserved for my guests.
Welcome to one of the Bay Area's most popular Airbnb accommodations. We were recently elevated to Superhost status, based on an overwhelming majority of 5-star reviews.
This is a private guest suite in the lower level of a Craftsman-style house in the sunny, popular Rockridge neighborhood.
Cozy bedroom with queen-size bed, four goose-down pillows and high-quality linen. Small bathroom with shower (no tub). Large living room/kitchen combination.
Private entrance. Peaceful, fully landscaped back yard with patio table, umbrella and chairs. Great for eating outdoors.
Your own parking space in my driveway.
The kitchen is equipped with refrigerator, microwave, gas stove, toaster, tea kettle and coffee maker. You'll have complimentary orange juice, bagels, cream cheese and butter, oatmeal, a pitcher of cold filtered water. Tea and coffee.
Rockridge is on the Oakland/Berkeley border. My house is two blocks from College Ave., which has dozens of restaurants and cafes, two bookstores, hair salons, gift shops, Trader Joe's market, a yoga studio and great transportation (BART station two blocks away).
You're a 5-minute walk from Market Hall, a great food emporium with a bakery, coffee house, gourmet deli, wine shop, produce market, florist, fish market and meat market.
You're two blocks from a BART train that takes you to San Francisco in 20 minutes or downtown/uptown Oakland in 8 minutes; and a bus that takes you directly to the U.C. Berkeley campus in 10 minutes. Easy freeway access to San Francisco, Marin County, Napa Valley, Silicon Valley.
I also provide lists of suggested restaurants and sights, guide books on San Francisco Bay Area for you to borrow. I've lived in the Bay Area 40 years and I know the area very well.
-- The ceilings in the guest suite are low: 6 and a half feet.
-- There may be a small amount of noise coming from upstairs where I live.
-- Living room sofa is 4.5 feet long, not big enough for sleeping.
-- No television.
-- I have a 4-year-old Labrador Retriever who will be in the back yard occasionally. She's the friendliest and prettiest dog on earth.
Interaction with Guests
My first priority is to give my guests as much privacy and quiet as you need. I'm also happy to be the concierge and share info about getting around the Bay Area, finding good restaurants, etc. I know what it's like to be a visitor in an unfamiliar place, and if I can make the logistics easier for you then that makes me feel great.
So close and accessible to San Francisco, but less expensive and a lot more manageable. We're generally 5 to 10 degrees warmer than S.F. Rockridge is a wonderful neighborhood for strolling. Trees, beautiful gardens. Great shops and restaurants.
-- Number one rule: Relax and enjoy yourselves!
-- No extra overnight guests. Two people maximum.
-- If you are booking for yourself and subsequently wish to add a second person, this has to be approv
ed in advance.
-- You'll be entering the guest suite through the back-yard garden. Make sure back-yard gate is closed tight at all times, so Lucy the dog doesn't get out.
-- No music or loud noise after 10 p.m.
-- No pets, tobacco or rowdy behavior.
-- Respect the property and keep it clean -- especially kitchen and bathroom.
-- Wash any dishes you use.
-- No red meat cooked in the house.
-- No dental floss, paper towels or feminine napkins in toilet. Only toilet paper.
The listing was nothing but accurate! Thank you for hosting us over last week during UC Berkeley commencements. My partner and I had a great time and, we loved your bungalow. Edward, your breakfast and the selection of tea were delicious and I can’t stop thinking of the welcoming atmosphere you created for us. We hope to stay there again soon on our next Bay trip!
This really is a Rockridge Gem, my favorite place to stay in Oakland. Close to College Ave. with many good restaurants, the place is cozy, spacious, with original art and good weekend reading options. I especially appreciate the fresh flowers and the lovely garden. This visit called for us to spend a lot of time "at home" and it certainly did feel like home. Edward is very nice and the dog Lucy is a a sweetie.
Edward and Lucy (dog) are AWESOME!! Beautiful living space in a wonderful neighborhood. Edward was easy to communicate with and willing to help at any time. Lucy is such a sweetheart, I missed her the second we left to head back to the east coast. I would recommend this listing to anyone visiting the San Francisco area. Looking forward to booking with Edward again!
The neighborhood is quiet and charming, and our apartment was attractive and clean. We appreciated the continental breakfast items stocked in the kitchen for our arrival, and the excellent maps, guides, and neighborhood information. Edward was welcoming and flexible about our departure time, and a great host. We had coffee and read on our patio with beautifully tended garden, and enjoyed Lucy's one visit outdoors during our stay. The bed is great, as is bath, kitchen. Location also great - private parking, very close to BART, very easy walk to fabulous market place and restaurants. We hope to come again.
The home was clean and comfortable, the fridge was stocked with a few essentials which was a thoughtful touch. Edward was also flexible on arrival times when our plans changed, and even allowed our 4 year old son to play with Lucy the dog in the back yard. Overall a great first AirBnb experience.
We arrived late in the evening. Edward left us the key and a note explaining everything we needed to know. The accommodations were just as described on the webite. There were bagels, oatmeal, tea, coffee, and orange juice, etc. The apartment was spotless and the washer and dryer was a nice added feature. All the comforts of home. Very comfortable. We loved the neighborhood. Everything was in walking distance. There were stores and restaurants. Edward left a book with recommendations about where to eat. We would definitely stay here on our next visit out to Oakland.

This spot worked perfectly for a visit from my husband's elderly mother. She loved sitting in the verdant garden, and much enjoyed what she called "the little library" provided on the bookshelf. The kitchen is well appointed, and she was able to prepare hearty breakfasts there in the morning.
The unit is warm, cheery and surprisingly spacious. At one point, we had three generations gathered there for dessert, after a dinner at one of the many great local restaurants. We looked at family photos and reminisced in the comfy sitting area.
Edward was just wonderful; personable, accommodating and considerate.
