Hello. This is a private guest suite in the lower level of my Craftsman-style house in the sunny, popular Rockridge neighborhood.
Rockridge is on the Oakland/Berkeley border. My house is two blocks from College Ave., which has dozens of restaurants and cafes, two bookstores, hair salons, gift shops, Trader Joe's market, a yoga studio and great transportation (BART station two blocks away).
Cozy bedroom with queen-size bed, four goose-down pillows and high-quality linen. Small bathroom with shower (no tub). Large living room/kitchen combination. Washer and dryer.
Private entrance. Peaceful, fully landscaped back yard with patio table, umbrella and chairs. Great for eating outdoors.
Your own parking space in my driveway.
The kitchen is equipped with refrigerator, microwave, gas stove, toaster, tea kettle and coffee maker. You'll have complimentary orange juice, bagels, cream cheese and butter, oatmeal, a pitcher of cold filtered water. Tea and coffee.
You're a 5-minute walk from Market Hall, a great food emporium with a bakery, coffee house, gourmet deli, wine shop, produce market, florist, fish market and meat market.
You're two blocks from a BART train that takes you to San Francisco in 20 minutes or downtown/uptown Oakland in 8 minutes; and a bus that takes you directly to the U.C. Berkeley campus in 10 minutes. Easy freeway access to San Francisco, Marin County, Napa Valley, Silicon Valley.
I also provide lists of suggested restaurants and sights, guide books on San Francisco Bay Area for you to borrow. I've lived in the Bay Area 40 years and I know the area very well.
Full disclosure: the ceilings in the guest suite are low, 6 and a half feet. There may be a small amount of noise coming from upstairs where I live. I have a 4-year-old Labrador Retriever who will be in the back yard occasionally. Friendliest and prettiest dog on earth.
It varies, and depends on the guest. My first priority is to give all my guests as much privacy and quiet time as they need.
Excellent transportation. BART station is two blocks away. Quick, easy freeway access to San Francisco and other Northern California locales.

It was great to stay in Edward's cosy apartment. We felt very comfortable there and made good use of all the equipment. We especially enjoyed the extensive library, full of guides for the area. Edward is a wonderful host who supplied helpful advice on touristic and culinary highlights. I wish this place were not so far away from my home and I could stay there more often!
When I told my daughter about Edward's Rockridge Gem before we arrived, she said she thought it sounded like it was priced below market, and that I needed to be prepared that I might be disappointed. Well, was she ever wrong! Okay, the ceilings are a little low (don't book this place if you are > 6'2"), and perhaps if it's grey and rainy outside, the guest suite might seem a little dark. But neither of us is tall and it was sunny all 12 days we spent there, so these were definitely NOT problems for us. It was PERFECT!! All the usual things: clean, well-maintained, wonderfully located, very comfortable bed and linens (!), beautiful garden, adorable dog, and quiet, quiet, quiet. When I mentioned to Edward that the kitchen faucet hardly had any water pressure (despite good pressure everywhere else), he had a plumber there the next day to replace the faucet! We were kept well-supplied with breakfast items and left to ourselves to enjoy the glories of the area. It was perfect. I'll be back!
If you're going to be in the Bay Area, you really should consider staying here. The location is perfect since it's literally a two-minute walk to the BART station and the Rockridge neighborhood is definitely more Berkeley than Oakland in character.
The space itself is plentiful, with a kitchen/living room included, and a large bedroom. Being in the basement helps with the noise from outside too. The back yard patio is a nice touch.
But of course the main selling point is the host, Edward, who is very hospitable and accommodating. He stocks the kitchen with lots of goodies from Trader Joe's and knows plenty about the area including the city. It doesn't hurt that his dog, Lucy, is awesome.
Wonderful cozy space in a fantastic neighborhood. Edward left the place clean, well stocked with breakfast essentials including wonderful coffee. Bed very comfortable, soft plush towels , lovely image garden on a quiet spot. Will definitely return and highly recommend!
Thank goodness Edward was able to accommodate us last minute! The finished basement makes for such a cozy cute 1 bedroom apartment. And Edward adds so many nice touches (night lights, books, art work every where) to really make the place feel like home. The rock ridge neighborhood is so cute. If you are feeling adventurous, BART is two short blocks away. We took it into the city one evening to eat at my favorite sushi bar, Umami. Honestly we'd stay forever if we could. We got pick up from at an Asian fusion place down the street, and thoroughly enjoyed the bar while we waited. The noodles & eggplant we brought home were amazing!
Edward's guest suite is pleasant, comfortable and very clean. Very comfortable bed. The kitchen has only basic equipment but Edward is happy to provide you with more if you want to be doing any cooking. As it is a basement space, there is not much light from the ground level windows, but most guests will be spending very little daytime there anyway. There is a lovely enclosed garden space that was sunny and warm even in February.
Beyond these basics of comfortable digs, one could not ask for a better location! Lovely neighborhood, a five minute walk to the Rockridge BART and then all the great shops and restaurants on College Ave. You have this wonderful neighborhood and incredibly easy access to SF. No need for a car unless you're planning to go explore the outlying areas, hiking, etc.
Edward is a friendly and considerate host; there were fresh flowers, bagels, juice, cream cheese, butter, good-quality freshly ground coffee (reg and decaf), half and half and many teas. He provides a notebook of info with recommendations of local businesses. Toast is one I tried and loved.
This was my second visit to Edward's place and it was, again, a great experience. The apt. is easy to access, even at night. If you need a flashlight, Edward will leave one for your use.
I like the layout of the rooms; the bedroom is large with plenty of room for luggage storage; the closet is adequate and there is a dresser if you need drawer space. I could go on and describe the space more, but this is my second review and it would be redundant.
What I appreciated this visit was Edward's hospitality in two different areas. One was that he kindly gave me a ride to the UPS store (I bought more this trip than I planned to so had to send some things home), and, more importantly, I messed up on my dates and thought I was leaving a day later than I was booked for. Thank goodness he could accommodate me for one extra night. It worked out fine for me in the end, thanks to Edward's good nature!!
My husband and I stayed here for a little R&R from the kids. Edward's place is exactly as advertised. Incredibly comfortable and clean. Very, very clean! It's in the cutest neighborhood about a block from College and the Bart station. It was so convenient that we were able to explore Rockridge, Berkeley & SF via Bart without getting into the car once. We had an awesome time. Highly recommend.
We enjoyed our week at Edward's apartment. It was represented in his write up accurately. The weather was somewhat rainy so we did not get to use his very nice backyard space. We arrived a little early and he got us checked in quickly. Very comfortable queen bed, nice hot shower, and well appointed kitchen/sitting area. Edward mentions the apartment has lower ceilings, I'm 6 foot and had no issues. The location was ideal for us being a quick 10 minute walk to visit our grandchildren in the Rockridge area. Also having off-street parking was great since the street has 2 hour non-resident parking restrictions.
Such a wonderful place! Edward is super friendly and helpful and I loved every minute of my stay! Very cute area to explore and close to the BART. I stayed there for interviews at Kaiser and Oakland Children's and was able to walk to both from his place. Lucy is in fact a beautiful, friendly dog and the garden area is amazing =)
Thanks for everything!
