Sunny Spring Room in Manhattan!

Apartment - Private room · East 114th Street, New York, NY 10029, United States

The Space

Nice bright room in a two-bedroom, one bath Manhattan apartment with a full size bed and chaise lounge! There are 2 windows and an air conditioner in the room. We have a nice kitchen with all of the cooking supplies you would ever need available for your use. We have a very clean brand new bathroom with a tub and shower.

ABOUT US:
We've lived in the city for years and know all the best places to go to get the best slice of NYC pizza, where to go to take the best pictures of the Statute of Liberty, the best bars and clubs for dancing, etc! Just ask us!

We value diversity and love to meet people from different countries, cultures, ethnicities, religions, LGBTQ people, etc!

We have a SUPER sweet two-year old dog named Gracie. She never barks, doesn't beg for food and loves to cuddle and play if you let her, if not, she'll just play with us!

Guest Access

Our house is your house! When you arrive, you will have your own key to the apartment to enter and leave whenever you want. The apartment is smoke free however there is a lot of nice outdoor space you can use to smoke (one large park directly across the street and two gardens on both sides of the apartment building).

Interaction with Guests

You will be sharing the apartment with my sister and I, but you will have your own private room. We love to interact with our guests, but we understand that sometimes you just want to come back and relax without having to socialize which is totally okay too!

The Neighborhood

Spanish Harlem has plenty of restaurants, bars and coffee shops (and tons of food delivery if you just want to order in). There are supermarkets including a Target and deli's everywhere, many are 24-hours. We are close to many parks including Central Park.

Getting around

We're close to the 6 subway line and close to many bus lines to take you anywhere you want to go!

FROM THE AIRPORT:

- JFK airport: You can take the subway (public transportation) and it costs $2.50 USD. Take the "Airtrain" to the E train (blue line) towards Manhattan. Transfer at Lexington Ave/53rd Street to the 6 train (green line) going north. A private taxi cab costs $52 USD.

- La Guardia airport: You can take a bus (public transportation) and it costs $2.50 USD. You must have coins or a subway card for the bus, it does not accept bills. Take the M60 bus (transfer at 125th Street) to the M15 bus. A private taxi cab costs $25 plus a $7.50 toll for the bridge.

Other Things to Note

CHECK-IN:
If you want to check-in at a time when we're not home we can arrange to get the keys to you so you can let yourself inside. If you have a late arrival or departure, no problem, NYC is a 24/7 city and you're welcome to come and go as you please!

We look forward to meeting you! :-)

  • My friend Jessy and I spent a wonderful time in NYC.
Erica and Tayo were super friendly hosts: they helped us getting used to the metro, finding a local copy shop…
Additionally, they provide their guests with a binder full of useful information e.g. about the nearby neighborhood, restaurants and museums. Their dog Gracey is cute, sometimes playful.
The apartment is located in Harlem and not too far away from the 6 metro station 116th Street. Nevertheless, we would strongly recommend to check the way to the apartment on (website hidden) maps to make sure that one does not get confused/ lost. Harlem - as we experienced it during our stay - is vivid and undoubtedly misses its equal in Manhattan. There is a distinct street culture: e.g. exotic food, peeled fruits, ice cream, perfumes are sold and in some cases prepared there.
To cut a long story short: the quality/price ratio is very fair; besides you get a different - not clishée-ridden - NYC experience for free.

  • Erica & Tayo were very welcoming hosts.
I really liked my stay, even though we didn't see each other much.
I was away in the city almost all the time.
Definitely looking forward to visit again.

  • We had a great stay with Erica and Tayo! They were very nice and hospitable. We felt very comfortable being in their space - we had just enough privacy in our room but also sat out in the living area and chatted with the ladies. Our bed was super cozy and the room was very warm but had a window so we could let some fresh air in.

Overall this was a great place to stay, 10 minutes from the metro and very comfortable. I would stay here again!

  • It was a pleasure to stay at Tayo’s and Erica’s apartment in Manhattan. These girls are very friendly and knowledgeable. We had some really great discussions about various things. Erica and Tayo are easy going persons who have interesting activities, so I am sure, you’ll find common topics to talk about. The apartment was cute and cozy, it wasn’t noisy as you could expect in such a big city. Supermarkets, grocery shops are easy to find. It took about 15 minutes to walk to the underground station. Tayo and Erica know a lot of great places to visit in New York, so just ask them. Last but not least, their dog Gracie is so cute and friendly :)

  • We stayed at Ericas and Tayos place in Manhattan for two nights. The apartment and the room we stayed are very nice. The place is easily to reach by subway. Our hosts were very nice and helpful. We would absolutely recommend staying there. Thanks a lot :)

  • We had a very good time in NY. Erica and Tayo are lovely, also their dog. It was easy to use the kitchen and oven, and we felt free to roam in the apartment. Getting there, getting in and out was easy, too. However, as the heating valves could not be turned off, it was quite hot sometimes. We found it very hot and not really clean, but the overall experience was good as the location is good and the hosts are lovely. To walk to the underground is ten minutes, and there are nice cafes and restaurant s around.

    Response from Erica & Tayo:

Hi Sophia! We keep our apartment warm in the winter since it's cold outside and most people like that, but we also tell our guests to either turn off the heating valve, use the air conditioner in the bedroom, or to open the bedroom window if they're warm. We consider our apartment to be pretty tidy, as do most of our guests based on our reviews, but we wish you would have informed us of your concerns during your stay so we could correct the problem. Nonetheless, it was really nice meeting you and your husband and we're glad you had a good stay overall! :-)

  • I had the best time in NYC! Everything was as described, the room was nice and the bathroom too. The room was really warm even with the heat turned off, you wouldn't even notice it's winter. The girls were super nice, I had a really good time talking to them. They always have tips for what to do or how to go somewhere. Gacie is the nicest dog I've ever met, really! The apartment is like 4 blocks from the nearest subway stop, but there's coffee shops on the way so you can have a nice breakfast. The neighborhood felt pretty safe, even at night. I would definitely stay with them again!

  • Erica and Tayo were great! They were very welcoming and friendly. Any questions we had, they were pleased to answer. The house is also very spacious to New York standards and I didn’t feel cramped at all. The location made it for easy access to Manhattan night life and the neighborhood felt safe with good restaurants nearby. The only thing I wish was better was the weather, but that is not their fault haha. I will definitely have to come back for Spring or Summer and I will definitely be trying to stay at Erica and Tayo’s again!!

  • Erica and Tayo made us feel right at home in their charming East Harlem apartment. As much as we enjoyed our weekend in the city, we equally enjoyed spending time getting to know these ladies. They are friendly, intelligent, fun loving, interesting people. We were free to come and go into the apartment as we pleased and never had the impression that we were imposing on our hosts. If you are looking for a stay in the city that feels like a home away from home, we highly recommend Erica and Tayo as hosts.
