We had a wonderful stay and the cottage lived up to its name. Raphaela was very welcoming and the cottage was beautifully renovated being quite modern while keeping some features of the old dairy it used to be. It was fabulous staying in such a lovely remote area.
My experience probably slightly unique. This little hide-away is part of the family farm where I grew up so it was bound to be slightly surreal staying there.
My verdict, however, is that Raphaela has achieved a really lovely conversion of what used to be, when I was a child, the cooling shed and dairy where milk was stored after milking & before collection. Boustead Hill is just one of the most peaceful places I know, surrounded by gorgeous, unspoilt countryside and totally off the beaten track. It's tranquil, quiet and quite unbelievably peaceful. If you want a simple, thoughtfully-designed pied a terre in a location which exudes agricultural history and charm, then it's perfect. The vast skies of the Solway Firth are 5 minutes walk to the north and, to the south, is a beautiful patchwork of pasture and a ribbon-like lane which threads its way between hedges and fields. Perfect for walking and cycling. If you're a city dweller like me, then the pristine silence, the fresh air and the lack of light pollution are amazing. Thanks Raph for a lovely stay! See you soon...
Raphaela made us so welcome at her lovely place, especially our little son! The place was just as described, really comfortable, beautifully converted old dairy now a very stylish cottage and great for seeing Hadrian's Wall and other great local sites. Thank you so much Raphaela!
We enjoyed our stay in Raphaela's cottage. It is clean, modern, comfortable and stylish. The weather was mostly warm and quite fine during our stay but I imagine that in less clement conditions the underfloor heating would have been much appreciated. All appliances worked well, once we had figured out the induction hob! (actually I didn't take long - Raphaela had shown us how it worked.) It was quiet and peaceful at night with the loudest sound coming from the nearby cows grazing on the marshes. Raphaela was a kind and attentive hostess and gave us some eggs from her free-range hens which were very good. Though wifi was not advertised, it was available - a little marginal but worked fine from the small patio outside the cottage. We had just a short stay and and so ran out if time, so hope to go back and visit the places we missed out.
My girlfriend and I had a wonder ful 4 nights staying in Raphaela's beautiful cottage. Originally a diary, the accommodation has been renovated with a beautiful modern kitchenette and lounge leading into the main bedroom with a spacious bathroom adjoining.
The surrounding area is historic and very peaceful.
A car is recommended to access the near-by City of Carlisle, as daily taxi rides will quickly add-up.
Raphaela was the perfect host, always assisting, yet never intrusive.
Thanks again Raphaela! Highly recommend!
We had an absolutely idyllic three night stay in the “Robin” cottage. It’s even nicer than it appears in the photos. The well-tended garden area is a charming place to while away a few sunny hours.
There are a surprising amount of activities in this quiet corner of Britain. The Campfield Marsh RSPB Reserve is a short drive away and is a great place for a peaceful and gentle walk – as well as to spot all manner of lovely birds. And of course, this is Hadrian’s Wall country with lots of walks and history to explore.
Raphaela is an extremely friendly and helpful host. We enthusiastically recommend a stay in the cottage to anyone looking for a quiet, comfortable and peaceful break.
