PROS: If you don't mind late night street noises from bars and trash trucks the location is the best - right in the old part of the town with fast access to almost everything. The beach is 15 minutes walking; outside the building are great coffee shop and restaurant; Picasso museum is right next to the building; A metro station is around the corner. It takes 10 minutes walk to Placa Catalunya being a major transport hub, where metro and airport buses are frequent. The all-pedestrian street La Rambla is also 10 minutes walk. From there is 10 minutes walk to Columbus monument and the port as well as the World Trade Center. Good fast wifi is in the apartment was a good thing and the interior has some of its original details - big wooden window chatters, old colorful figure-detailed floor tiles, high ceilings and tiny charming balcony overlooking the busy street. Clean sheets and towels were provided. CONS: the ad pictures and description weren't close to the reality. Being an artist myself, I can easy say that this is not and artistic flat at all. A few random pictures on the wall and some flower pots can't make it! We didn't meet our official host Juna but she was helpful via email and inapp messages to give us some useful tips. Because she was away, Juna told us that a friend of hers Mariana will take care of us and deal with the place and sent us her contact info. A few days before our arrival Mariana(who we also didn't meet) emailed us that another person Paola will be the one giving us the keys and being the contact person. All started to look weird at that point but it got really surprising when we got to the apartment only to find another couple sharing the place with us, which WAS NOT specifically listed in the ad! Talking to that couple we found out that they experienced the same thing - rented a room from airbnb but didn't expect to find other guests in the apartment, because the ad description didn't say so. We all compared both ads only to find that they were posted separately for each bedroom(one called "Exotic room in artist flat" and the other called "tropical room in artist flat") and neither ad mentioned that the place will be shared with other guests but only with the host. So, be aware because there are 3 bedrooms and all may have tenants! Bathroom is only one and the tub hygiene was very poor as it wasn't only dirty but the water didn't drain well. Bring flip flops if you want to try taking a fast shower a bit more comfortably. Running the hot water was also tricky because it stops in a lite bit, so you have to stop the water flow completely and start it over. Small ants were moving thru the tiles in our bedroom, which was another uncomfortable thing. During our five...
When we arrived Mariana (Juna's friend who lives in the place) was surprised we were "already" there. She thought we'd arrive one day later, even after I send her several messages...There were still guests in our room, so she needed to clean by arrival. We got our key and quickly Mariana was gone with no further explanation. The room looked nice at first sight, but underneath the bed it was dirty...just as everywhere in the appartment. The pictures looked much prettier and brighter than irl. We didn't dare to use the kitchen, 'cause it was so filthy...At night we didn't sleep at all, the noises in the street were way too loud. Mariana was not at home when we needed to check out, so we moved out of our room and left the luggage in the living room, 'cause we still had a day left and we couldn't walk around in the city with our luggage...When we got back to turn back the key, Mariana was angry at us not having left the key earlier (but she wasn't there and we didn't know what to do...). Immediately she turned her back at us and was gone. We left without one word and with an awkward feeling...All together, we're not happy with the stay: we didn't see Mariana at all, the place wasn't clean and so on. I think we payed more than enough to get some quality...
The flat is in an incredible location, a mere 20 minutes walk from the beach and about 5 to La Rambla and other main streets. It is perfectly located amongst art museums and is right next to the central park. Inside is perfect and just as I expected, artistic, with personal touches everywhere - small drawings on the walls and a balcony that is perfect for breakfast, tea or wine.
