The Space

Coco's Garden Guest Room is a very large (75 square meter) accommodation in a charming vintage home in a quiet corner of the Paco District of old Manila. Centrally located, Intramuros and Makati are but a few kilometers away, and access to public transportation is easy. The guest room has its own restroom, with a sink, a toilet, and a traditional filipino dipping bath (with hot water), air-conditioning, with access and use of the house's kitchen, laundry, patio, and garden. The guest room has Cable TV and broadband internet. The room has a king-size and full beds, and can accommodate up to 4 persons. A large bunkbed can be added to accommodate an additional 2 persons. There is a kitchenette on the patio, with a stove/oven, refrigerator, and clothes washing machine.

Healthy local cuisine can be arranged at extra cost, including vegetarian and organic. Fresh seafood is constantly available. Filipino cooking lessons are available. Breakfast (5.00 US-$ per person per night), Lunch (10.00 US-$ per person per night), Dinner (10.00 US-$ per person per night). Airport pickup/drop-off can be arranged for ($25 US each way).

Smoking is allowed, preferably on the covered, screened patio or in the garden. Use of the laundry entails additional fees per load. Dry Cleaning or other required services (transportation, massage, language lessons, etc.) can be arranged.

Guest Access

As our guest, you will of course have your private room and private bath(website hidden) addition, the rest of the house is shared with you as well, including the kitchen, the living area, and the garden/patio.

Interaction with Guests

As you will be staying in our home with us, you can expect us to be available for your questions or needs related to your stay with us and your time in the Philippines.

The Neighborhood

Ours is an historical neighborhood dating back to the arrival of Japanese expatriate Catholics in the early 17th-century. In the years prior to WW2, Paco was the part of Manila where artists and some wealthier families lived on large properties, lumber yards proliferated, and some manufacturing was done. The face of Paco has changed mightily over the years, butt vestiges of the old Paco can be found by the intrepid explorer.

Getting around

We are located near a major intersection where Jeepneys and taxis can be had.

Other Things to Note

We have 4 dogs and 3 cats, all of whom are outdoor pets and highly socialized.

  • Coco's garden house was unlike any places we had been before! The house itself is a beautiful architectural antiquity and we very much appreciated how well it was preserved and decorated. We met RJ and Bao(hope this is the correct spelling!) at the house, although Greg and Jorge were out of town--RJ and Bao were so helpful and kind. Our overall experience at the garden house was priceless. We would return in a heartbeat if we could.

  • The pictures really don't do this place justice. It's a beautiful sanctuary in the middle of crazy manila. Greg and Jorge are treasure troves of knowledge, and his home is an ideal place to launch your adventure in the philippines from. Ask about costs for his guided tour, well worth the time if you want to know more about the history of the Philippines. We'll definitely visit when we go back!

Word to the wise: don't drive in the philippines without a GPS. None of the streets are labelled almost anywhere.

    Response from Greg:

Thank you for saying! Truly sorry :( There was nothing intentional. I myself have dabbled in many substances, and have cut back to just one. Please pardon our insensitivity. Sending you warmest regards from Manila!

  • There is practically no difference from the pictures, even better!
Place is quiet, clean, comfortable, roomy and check-in/out time are flexible.
the house is quite hard to find, but Grag came to meet us near the Paco station.
Eggs and toast with a glass of milk and coconut/pineapple jam was a wonderful breakfast.
Thanks for welcoming us and we hope to see you and coco's again

  • This was actually my second stay at Greg's, and it was still a great spot. It feels very separate and removed from the rush of the city of Manila even though it's very close and convenient to the city (I walked to Intramuros).

  • We cannot praise Greg's home "Coco Gardens" too highly. The house is beautiful and in traditional Philippino style. The rooms are massive and very airy. The bed is the most comfortable I have ever slept in. Greg is a very relaxed and charming host. He is by no means intrusive but he does work as a guide to Manilla and so is a good source of information. The only drawback is when we arrived at the airport our taxi driver could not find it at all. We do recommend checking the locality carefully on (website hidden) maps and being able to direct your driver there in case this happens to you. It would also be helpful to print out a map. this said it was well worth the slight difficulty in finding it.

  • Coco's is a beautifully restored bungalow in a garden setting in a quiet corner of Paco. Greg and Jorge are knowledgeable hosts and their cooking and hospitality are first class. recommended if you are looking for a sense of place and access to the bay and the so-called old manila areas of Metro Manila. For longer term travellers to the philippines it is also an ideal place to rest and recuperate.

  • Amazing place to stay in Manila, they house itself is so beautiful and Greg (email hidden). We unfortunately stayed only for one night on our way to Hong Kong, but we would definitely book here again. Highly recommended!

  • This was our first AirBnB foray. We're afraid that subsequent trips elsewhere can never be as good as this stay at Greg's! In comparing to a couple of five-star hotels we recently slept at, this was a far richer experience. Greg has an encyclopedic knowledge of the history and the local lore as we discovered on two tours we took with him. He and Jorge could not have been more kindly or helpful; picking us up when we were lost nearby on more than one occasion. The room was wonderfully large for a family of three and beautifully furnished.
