About this listing

The guest room is the downstairs bedroom in an authentic mid-20th century American-colonial style wooden home. We have furnished our place with Filipiniana antiques, so the ambiance is from that period. You will hear birds in the morning and church bells on Sundays.

The Space

Coco's Garden Guest Room is a very large (75 square meter) accommodation in a charming vintage home in a quiet corner of the Paco District of Manila. Centrally located, Intramuros and Makati are but a few kilometers away. The guest room has its own restroom, with a sink, toilet, and shower. The room is airconditioned, with access and use of the house's kitchen, laundry, patio, and garden. The guest room has Cable TV and broadband internet. The room has a king-size bed good for 2, and a full-size bed can be added for a third person.

The local Robinsons mall has the usual fast-food outlets, while a little farther away at Paco Park you can find My Kitchen (Italian) and the Old Swiss Inn. If you're interested in a local cooking lesson, I can arrange a teacher (for a fee). Airport pickup/drop-off can be arranged for ($25 US each way).

Smoking is not allowed in the bedrooms, but is fine in the restrooms and the patio or garden.

Professional in-house massage by a local agency employing the blind is available.

If you need a car/driver, I may be able to assist you.

Guest Access

As our guest, you will of course have your private room and private restroom. The rest of the home is shared space, including the kitchen, the living area, and the garden/patio.

Interaction with Guests

As you will be staying in our home with us, you can expect us to be available for your questions or needs related to your stay with us and your time in the Philippines.

The Neighborhood

Ours is an historical neighborhood dating back to the arrival of Japanese expatriate Catholics in the early 17th-century. In the years prior to WW2, Paco was the part of Manila where artists and some wealthier families lived on large properties. Lumber yards proliferated, and some manufacturing was done. The face of Paco has changed mightily over the years, but vestiges of the old Paco can be found by the intrepid explorer. Intramuros/Malate/Ermita are nearby.

Getting Around

We are located near a major intersection where Jeepneys and taxis can be had. Uber works here.

Other Things to Note

We have 5 dogs and 3 cats, all of whom will seek your attention. They all live in the garden.

Manila has been my home since 1988, though my first Philippine travels were in Mindanao starting in 1983. Since then, I've travelled all but 6 of the Philippine's 81 provinces.

The city of Manila has changed tremendously in recent decades, and there are few homes like ours left. The house dates from 1947 and is in a quiet and hidden older neighborhood of Paco, Manila. It's furnished mostly with antique and vintage local furnishings.

Rizal Park and Intramuros are a 45 minute walk away. Makati is 15 minutes away by car.

Traveling in the Philippines can be challenging but always fulfilling. I have friends operating tours/accommodations around the country, so let me know where you're going and maybe i know someone there (e.g., Boracay, Bohol, Tubbataha, El Nido/Coron Dumaguete).

I am a part-time guide in the historical district of Intramuros and Binondo-Quiapo. My partner, Jorge, and I have 5 dogs and 3 cats.
