About this listing
Enjoy an antique atmosphere in the heart of culture and art in downtown Seoul. Be our guest and make yourself at home. Make your travels in Korea more special than ever!
126 Mansion is a Guesthouse which is located in Palpan-dong(aka Samchung-dong), the centre of culture and art, in downtown Seoul.
Palpan-dong is just around the corner from Gyungbokgung, the first royal palace of the Joseon Dynasty. This place has been at the very centre of the Capital city of Korea since the old days of the royal dynasty; in this area, eight Panseos(Ministers of the Joseon Dynasty) used to reside here hence where Palpan-dong(an eight-Panseos’ village) got its name.
Within a 3-minute walk from our Guesthouse, you can see a variety of galleries, shops and cafes in a busy street. Han-ok Maeul (Korea’s traditional house village) is within a 10-minute walk. It is about 5 to 30 minute walk to Seoul’s most famous historic sites such as Gyungbokgung, Changdukgung, and Deoksugung. Also you can get to Myung-dong, Dongdaemun and Namdaemun markets, and Gwanghwamun square.
Equally, we are proud of the picturesque surroundings of the 126 Mansion. Just beside our Guesthouse, there is a beautiful promenade of the stone wall of Gyungbokgung leading to Cheongwa-dae (the Blue House).
126 Mansion is a high-class Guesthouse providing comfortable, spacious living. Our guest house is situated with a nice view so that you can see Gyungbokgung and Cheongwadae. Guests can also expect excellent service in our relaxing dining room and experience a fine example of modern day living in a traditional space. We will welcome you with exclusive hospitality.

I HIGHLY recommend this guest house. This was my first time going to South Korea, my first time staying at a guest house, and my first time using AirBnB. I'm very pleased with all of these all around. The hosts are all very warm and welcoming and make sure that you get well accommodated. They have a lot of information about the area available, and even showed me and two other guests around the city and Han River after they invited us out to dinner. The room I had was very nice and spacious and clean. The morning breakfast was always delicious and I highly recommend the plum tea. I ended up buying some for my mom and myself. The area is also premium. Right next to a lot of attractions and shopping areas. I needed to be close to the Japanese embassy, but many embassies are also in that area too. The national folk museum, a castle, and the at least 2 art museums are right down the road. The area is also extremely safe, and I'm saying that as a young woman who was traveling alone. The first floor is a cafe so you can eat lunch or even dinner there if you don't feel like going out some days. The kimchi and bacon fried rice is amazing. The hosts made my first visit to Korea extremely pleasant because of their friendly personalities and welcoming smiles. The little dog that they have is also very adorable.
I definitely enjoyed my stay in Hyunchung's guesthouse. Especially, I want to thank Hyunchung and Su, for they took great care of me when I was sick during my stay. I was then able to get well soon because of their good care. They were really nice and helpful : )
As for the accommodation, the room is tidy and comfortable, and it provides everything you need. I also like the cute and warm cafe downstairs. There are lots of beautiful cafe and restaurants in the neighbourhood, and the area is safe too. There's only one thing that you may have to walk for 10-15mins from the house to the metro station. Though, it would be a nice walk.
This experience made my stay in Korea memorable, I would definitely recommend this guesthouse.
Hello, Lulei. Thank you very much for the nice review. And I am very very sorry for not being able to write a review about you. Su went to a trip and I have been just busy. Nowadays I've totally lost my mind I suppose.^^ Though I knew that which cannot be an excuse. Sorry again. It was great to see you everyday also to talk to you. You were such a lovely guest. And specially lots of thanks for the card. We loved it so much. I hope everything is going well with you, that you will make your dream come true. And really hope to see you again!! Thank you very much for staying with us.
I had a wonderful and cosy stay at Hyunchung's bnb. This accommodation is in a beautiful and charming neighbourhood with lots of cafes and craft works to explore. The district has a number of police patrolling the area due to the president's residence is in the vicinity so it was really safe for a solo female traveller like me. The place is clean, the bed is really comfortable and I really enjoyed chatting with Hyunchung and her sister who were so warm and welcoming towards me. Not forgetting the cery adorable Shiroo, the family dog. Korean breakfast is a must choice and as a foodie, I really enjoyed the delicious and wholesome home cooked food prepared in the morning. Although it is not extremely close to the station, I didn't mind the beautiful walk through the ginkgo trees that were in its fall shades each time. I am so pleased to have chosen this place as my first accommodation in South Korea. It felt like a home away from home and I highly recommend this place to everyone.
Hyungchung and her family was very friendly and welcoming, including their little dog, Shiro. Owned and hosted by a family of 3 sisters and their mum, 126 Mansions is like staying at a family friend's place.
One of our favourite part of the stay was the breakfast. Be sure also to try their Korean breakfast which is an experience because it is a full meal with rice, soup, meat and all its side dishes.
If you like quaint little cafes and streets, this is the place to stay as it is in the heart of Samchungdong. Close by are also many art galleries and MCMA which is a great museum to visit. 126 Mansion is also right beside the palace. Knowing this made, the stay real cool.
Location is close to all the palaces and the hanok village. Good place to stay if you'll like to explore the historical part of Seoul. Angguk station is about 15-min walk away, as well as the area of Insadong.
Toilet had basic supplies. Floor can get a bit wet as shower and bidet aren't separated, or had no curtains. There was no place to hang clothes but it was just a small inconvenience. The room we choose was the smaller one, it was very warm and cosy.
I had a wonderful time staying at 126 mansion. It was my first solo trip to Seoul despite visiting the country for the 3rd time and also my very first airbnb experience. I was excited and nervous but Hyunchung and family made me feel so comfortable during my 10 days stay.
126 mansion is located at Samchungdong, very refined and serene area with lots of quaint shops. Take a slow walk down the streets and have fun getting lost while discovering interesting things.
It is a 15 -20 mins walk to Anguk Station which can be quite a walk but the arrays of museums and pretty shops will compensate for that! It is also near Insadong and many other historical places. The neighbourhood is also very safe at night with security guards on duty as it’s nearby the Prime Minister house.
126 mansion has a very modern and rustic feel to the interior of the guesthouse. Quirky and artsy decorations all around that I am constantly inspired by. The café area is a cool place to chill every morning when you’re having breakfast, a nice area to mingle around with other guests too ☺. Korean breakfast is really good and is a must-try! Hyunchung’s mum is a great cook ☺.
The rooms and toilets were clean, tidy and organized and have a zakka feel to it. Bed is very comfortable and the sheets/towels are clean.
Hyunchung and her family had been such a great host. They are very attentive towards their guest’s needs when I needed one. Especially when I was sick throughout my stay and had lost my voice. Her elder sister So young took care of me by making me hot ginger tea everyday to ease my sore throat. And as I do not consume pork, So young made a point to inform me on the soup ingredients as well as for any one of the dishes in the Korean breakfast, carefully ensuring me that she did not include any pork in my meal. I am really grateful for her thoughtfulness.
Hyunchung gave me some vitamin Cs to stabilize my body condition & constantly checked on me. She also took the time to provide me with very detailed directions to places that I was unfamiliar with and offered me as much help as I could possibly ask for.
She made me feel like a friend, inviting me to go on a yoga class with her and having Korean BBQ with her younger sister Su and their mum. It was really nice and warmth. Su is a very fun and lovely girl. She shared her travel experiences and recommends me places to visit during my stay.
I am glad I chose to stay at 126 mansion and will definitely come back on my next trip. Amazing family. I highly recommend to other travelers as well if they are seeking a home away from home travel experience.
Thank you for your hospitality Hyunchung ☺
I have to thank Hyun Chung, friends and family for the warm hospitality during my stay. It was a shame that I could not stay for a few more days. I like the clean and quiet environment. The place is only a few minutes walk to Samcheongdong cafes and eateries. I spent two nights here and enjoyed the time exploring the neighbourhood. The only downside is that Hyunchung thought that I was here alone so gave me a single room. But that was resolved when she added another bed for us. :)
For those who wish to stay here, you may consider to get a cab at Anguk Station to here because it is around 15-20mins walk in. It would be more tiring if you dragging your luggage in.
The whole family was lovely! The food was delicious, and the neighborhood was amazing. So much to see in do within walking distance. Would definitely stay again!

About the Host, Hyunchung
Hello, greetings from 126Mansion in Seoul.
My two sisters and I have all worked in the art industry; my older sister is a clothing designer, my younger sister likes to paint although she is not a professional painter; and interestingly some of her better paintings are on display in our house. She truly has many gifts, she is a barista and also cooks very well. She runs our coffee shop on the first floor. Finally, as for me, I have worked in the Korean film industry.
In 2009, on one fine autumn day, we found this house (126Mansion) in a wonderful area. As soon as seeing it, we fell in love with it. At the time, the location of our house had been empty for some time and was more like a ghost house. However, we could imagine just how lovely could be if we renovated it. Immediately we loved the neighborhood, it’s very historical and also very modern and safe, clean, and no large apartments, and of course lots of good places in within walking distance. This area is known as Samcheong - dong. We decided to make this house a home for travellers, opening up this house to and for people from all over the world.
Generally speaking, people who visit Seoul they think Seoul is kind of shoppers paradise and that’s all, and not really so historical, not so cultural, but it’s not true. If you would stay this area, you will be able to discover many amazing points of interest. I really hope people who visit Seoul experience the various sides of Seoul, and have a true traveler’s delight.
We have great passion for communicating with new people, especially who are curious about Seoul, and Korea. Upon your arrival here in our home we can recommend some really nice places, ones not really known as traditional tourists’ spots. That would be our pleasure. Please, don’t hesitate to talk to us.
Lastly, I want to introduce to you my mom. She is an older lady but even in this chapter of her life, still very passionate and healthy, and of course a great cook. Early in the morning she prepares a Korean breakfast for our guests like you. I am so proud of my mom and her food. If you would like to try Korean food, please don’t miss my mom’s food.
We are looking forward to meeting you, all of you wonderful travelers from all over the world.
