A sweet cottage right in the middle of Darthia Farm, raising organic mixed vegetables, sheep, ducks, chickens, turkeys, and working with Haflinger horses. The property is minutes from the Schoodic Section of Acadia and has its own salt water beach.

The space
There are two bedrooms upstairs and a kitchen and living room downstairs. The beds upstairs have new memory foam mattresses. We bought a futon for the living room which could accommodate two more people but it might be a bit crowded. Heat is from a cozy wood stove, heated with wood we cut here and haul with our horses. The composting bucket toilet located in the woodshed attached to the cottage, and outside shower are somewhat primitive but convenient and there is also an outhouse a few steps away. We'll show you how everything works. The kitchen is well equipped with refrigerator, gas stove, dishes, and cooking pots. There is no hot water in the kitchen, but cold fresh water is available in the sink from a foot pump. We have outdoor furniture, a picnic table, and a gas grill.

Guest access
Guests are encouraged to explore the farm and the road to the bay shore. If interested, guests may help with animal chores or the vegetable operation. We have a farm store stocked with jams, jellies, pesto, vegetables, that can be purchased.

Other things to note
The farm is busy throughout the growing season and the cottage is close to the activity. It's a great chance to expose children to animals and farm life. We have a very friendly and active dog (Nova Scotia duck tolling retriever) who loves to play with children. Since we are up at 5am and go to bed by 8pm, it is difficult to greet our guests after our check-in deadline of 7pm. Thanks for understanding. None of the five houses on the property have locks and keys. There is no need for locks here on the farm.
The facilities are primitive; outside shower, bucket toilet, pump water faucet in kitchen, but for those who want to experience living close to nature, this is perfect.

Location

Gouldsboro, Maine, United States

Gouldsboro is made up of several small picturesque fishing villages. The farm is an icon in the community and has a busy farm store. Nearby are beautiful harbors, a vibrant arts organization, a busy pub with entertainment many nights, Schoodic Point which is part of Acadia National Park, many talented craftsmen and craftswomen as well as shops where you can purchase handmade pottery, jewelry, bells, yarn. The main branch of Acadia National Park is about an hour away and there may be heavy traffic, but the Schoodic section, which is wild and majestic and beautiful is only minutes away. We are very welcoming to LGBTQ guests and have a minimal knowledge of ASL.
