And here we are with a new flat, our third one and the second one in the lively neighbourhood of Lavapiés. The apartment is newly refurbished (May 2013), modern, charming, well equipped and super central apartment in a semi pedestrian street of the lively, interracial and multicultural neighbourhood of Lavapiés, where Vanessa has been living for almost 2 years now and where you can find Spanish elderly people that has been living here since they were born, people in their late twenties to late thirties attracted by the bohemian and arty air of this neighbourhood and immigrants from Asia, Africa and, to a minor extent, Latin American. This is the perfect place if you are looking for a place right in the centre, walking distance to all the sights in Madrid and were you can feel like home when coming back every night, since the apartment is warm and cozy. The museums, entertainment and parks... everything is so closeby that you will rarely be using the public transportation in Madrid.

This is one of the oldest neighbourhoods in town, dated back more than 500 years old. Literally, Lavapiés means "wash feet" and it seems to refer to the ritual washing of one's feet before entering the temple, possibly in the fountain of Plaza Lavapiés, which no longer exists. Actually, Lavapiés was the Jewish quarter of the city until the expulsion of the Jews from Spain in 1492, and the current church of San Lorenzo was built on the former site of the synagogue. It is a vibrant and lively neighbourhood, with lots of bars and restaurants around, where you can find anything from tapas bar to the tons of Indian restaurants down calle Lavapiés and calle Ave María. Lavapiés is the multicultural neighbourhood of Madrid and a true mixture of cultures. In Lavapiés you'll find foreigners but also young arty people and old people that was born in the neighbourhood and is still there.
In Lavapiés you can find anything you need for your stay. A big supermarket just a couple of meters away from the apartment, the metro just accross the square, a municipal market also very close and all kinds of Spanish, Asian and African restaurants. Bars with terraces to chill out and some music bars if you want to hear some live music. Not to mention the Rastro. It's a great place to be! And since we know it so well and deeply, we'll make sure you make the most of your stay here.
The location of the apartment is perfect to visit Madrid without even having to use our good public transport network. Actually, within 15 minutes walking you can reach the main museums in town (Prado, Reina Sofia and Thyssen Bornemisza), the Retiro Park, Gran Via and its neoclassic architecture, the Rastro and La Latina, etc. But in any case, the nearest metro stop (Lavapiés) is within 1 minute walking from home.
For sure, you won't have problems to move around from here.
We try to be as flexible as possible with your check in so as to allow you to get into the apartment as soon as you get downtown. Let us know your schedules and we'll work it out! However, if you arrive from 10pm to 12pm there is a LATE CHECK IN FEE of 15 euro payable upon arrival. From 12pm to 1.30am, the LATE CHECK IN FEE is 25 euro.

The loft was fabulous. Bed was very comfortable and kitchen was well equipped. Oscar was very helpful. Would highly recommend this place while staying in Madrid.
This is a lovely place to stay, its clean, very comfortable and fully equipped with everything you need. The additional things like tea, coffee, salts and spices for cooking are really useful too and were very much appreciated. The location is perfect for exploring Madrid because of its centrality and it is really easy to get to by Metro form the airport. Oscar and Vanessa were really kind and helpful, I cant thank them enough for being such good hosts.
The luxury charming loft of Oscar and Vanessa says it all: a charming place, fully equipped, clean, tidy and completely!
Nice to be part of life as that goes into Lavapies.
Close to the metro (for transfer from the airport) but otherwise basically anything in the city within walking distance. Oscar and Vanessa answer any questions and are easy to reach.
This loft is sure worth a booking.
Oscar&Vanessa have a nice apartment in a very ethnic diverse neighborhood. Staying here gives you a sense of being part of the area. It's close to many fine restaurants and the grocery store and metro are just steps away. Oscar met us at this address and let us in early. He showed us around and gave us helpful tips about the area. You can walk to so many sites and museums and reach others by metro which is easy to use.
You can fix a meal in as the kitchen is well equipped. Sleeping is no problem because the bed is comfortable and the apartment is quiet. This is a great location and would make anyone's stay in Madrid more memorable. If I return to Madrid I would stay here again.
We enjoyed the our stay and would recommend for those interested in a spacious, quiet, and well appointed flat in a culturally diverse barrio. A relatively short uphill 15 minute stroll to central Madrid and the nearby Baja street tapas bars. The Lavapies barrio may not be for everyone but those with a sense of adventure will find the area historic, authentic and intriguing. Very comfortable bed, well appointed for cooking, and noted as having a modern A/C unit for those considering in hotter months. Also, readily walkable from the train station (which is also the airport bus drop off point). AAA+++ experience with this host.
The apartment was exactly as in the pictures - cozy and in the city center. Easy walk to all the main attractions. Getting cabs is very easy and their city guide is very helpful as well. Overall, very happy with the stay.
Wonderful flat. Very clean in a really convenient location. Right next to the metro and near restaurants and huge grocery store. I was able to walk to all the sites of Madrid. Oscar and Vanessa were really helpful with check in/out times and extremely easy to communicate with. As someone else commented, it's a very lively neighborhood at night with many people hanging about. As a female traveling alone, I got heckled a little bit which always make me feel uncomfortable (especially at night and when I don't know the language!), but I never felt unsafe as there were many people out. Would definitely recommend.
