Perfectly situated one mile from downtown and on the edge of the SE Arts District- location doesn't get much better than this! Live like a local and experience Portland in this cozy three bedroom private lower level flat.
Almost all the main attractions in Portland are located within a two mile radius of the Hawthorne Hideaway. It's easily accessible by foot or nearby public transportation.

We are one block from public transportation-- the bus passes in front of our house. We would be happy to give you all the information you need to get around our city! There may even be a bike free we can leave on loan if requested! Availability varies, but In any case, there is a bike rental shop only a few blocks away. Arriving at Portland International Airport, the MAX light rail will take you into town. Transfer to the #70 bus at Lloyd Center or Rose Garden Transit Center. This drops you within 2 blocks of our house. Web search "Tri-met Trip Planner" to discover an easy to use site offering door-to-door directions.

Place was nice and neighborhood was great!! Lots of good places in walking distance.
Kathy was awesome! She left us a welcome note, tea and a few essential amenities (water boiler, fridge, hot plate).
The living area was stocked with maps and info about the surrounding Portland area. We didn't dig too much into those, but for people without access to smartphones/laptops I figure those would be super useful.
The neighborhood is alright, and it's walking distance from a few choice eateries (pine state biscuits, juniors, lardo), a few dive bars & coffee shops, and just a few blocks further is access to public transit.
We had 7 adults stay at the apartment, but if everyone in your group is an adult, it's more more like a 6-person space (two big beds, a twin and a futon). Like a few of the other reviews said, it works for 7 people if 2 are children.
All in all, I would stay here again if I visited Portland, but maybe if my group was smaller.
My 4 friends and I stayed at Kathy's place for our first trip to Portland. The only encounter we had with our host Kathy was when we first got there and the morning that we left. They were brief but she was very nice! The house is so cute and we loved the look of it. Our entrance was to the side of the house and that led us downstairs to our floor. All three of our bedrooms were connected, which we all actually enjoyed a lot! The beds were super comfy and the shower and bathroom were nicely kept as well. You definitely hear a lot of noise coming from upstairs but that didn't really bother us because we knew we would be on the bottom floor upon booking this place. The place was well kept and we loved the location. We decided to rent a car once we got there because being the tourists we were, it was hard figuring out public transportation. Having a car helped us get around much easier and everything was fairly close by! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Portland! Thanks Kathy!
The Hawthorne hideaway was the perfect spot for my families trip to Portland! Kathy came down to greet us and kept the place very clean and cozy. We had a wonderful stay and my family enjoyed all of the fun things to do in the neighborhood! Thank you Kathy!
We had a great stay at Kathy's hideaway for New Years. Quite charming place with well thought out decor. The location is perfect. Near lots of shops, great food and beer, and also not too far to some of the more downtown locations.
There weren't any noise issues with us until the last night in which we heard some footsteps and TV from above. Nothing crazy, just thin ceilings and it stopped at midnight.
Would definitely recommend this place to a friend and would stay again.
Had a great time in Portland! It was great to stay at an actual house and not a hotel. It was my first time using AirBnB and I'd say it was a success. It was nice to come into a heated house and nice warm beds, perfect for my group of 6. Kathy is really accommodating! We were doing some work before we head out one morning and the internet went down. Kathy got it working in just a few minutes. She's great! Thanks for the awesome coffee and teas too!
The hosts were extremely welcoming, leaving everything from a welcome note, coffee beans, quick text responses to my questions, toys and books for my toddler to borrow, even a special treat on chrismas! The basement apartment was cute, cozy and warm, and has inspired me to redecorate. I loved the historic neighborhood, the shops and restaurants and a great school playground all within blocks. I highly reccommend the lovely Hawthrone Hideaway to anyone:)
