This was a great place in Portland. We walked everywhere, and there were so many great eateries and breweries near by. Kathy and Vic were great hosts and helped us with laundry which we greatly appreciated! The unit was adorable, nicely furnished and decorated, and was more than enough space for the three of us, however we hardly were there because of all the fun things to do in The city!! You can hear some walking around, it being a basement unit, but it was during the day so it didn't bother us one bit.
Five of us stayed at the Hideaway for 7 days in July while we visited for my sister's wedding. Portland is a wonderful city and this neighborhood was lovely, safe and had fabulous coffee shops, bars, & restaurants within walking distance. You could even walk downtown very easily. While Kathy was incredibly welcoming and friendly in all of her correspondence, we all were a little disappointed in the flat. It was posted as a lower level, but it's really a basement. And I definitely saw bugs crawling on the floor/walls most days. My mom and I both got bit by something in our sleep - NOT BED BUGS - but we do have red, itchy, inflamed bites that happened over night. The living room area was quite small, so the few times we found ourselves at the house, it didn't offer the 5 of us enough space to sit in the same room together. We ran out of toilet paper in the middle of the night - we were only given two rolls for our entire stay. My husband very graciously walked to the shell station (two blocks) to get more. Not a huge deal, just another disappointment. My husband and I own a few rentals in Milwaukee, so we're quite realistic with our expectations; We both agree that the posting didn't really match up with what we got. It was no where near as clean in person as it was in those pictures.
Kathy's place was so perfect for us! We had two kids and four adults and had plenty of space. The beds we're comfortable and the location was outstanding! Kathy even had some toys for our daughter ready when we arrived and her husband left some of his own roasted coffee.
It was my first stay with airbnb and i couldn't imagine a better host than Kathy was. Everything was as described and we had enough space for all seven of us. Kathy welcomed us very friendly and was very helpful with everything. Neighborhood was very nice and not too far away from downtown.
Would definitely recommend the accommodation.
The Hawthorne Hideaway is exactly what we wanted to and expected for our short stay in Portland. The apartment was meticulously clean, it was comfortable and cozy for four people. Even though we never met Kathy personally, she welcomed us through the messaging system and she was great! The apartment was easy to access and all her directions were spot on. If in Portland again, we would stay at the HH once again!
Our stay at Hawthorne was absolutely delightful! We were only in town for 2 nights, but the space was exactly as described and everything we could have wanted. The neighborhood is super cute and walkable. I would highly recommend a stay here!
Kathy and Vic were very friendly and accommodating. We arrived late but the house had signs directing us to the part of the house that we would be staying in. The place was cozy and comfortable, and our hosts were extremely helpful in helping us with anything we needed, including some great recommendations for things to check out in Portland. Vic roasts coffee right at home and left us a bag of beans to try, which was a very cool touch because my friend and I are huge coffee lovers. One of the best things was probably the location. They aren't exaggerating when they say that the house is nearby everything. We were able to walk into downtown and back easily, which was very convenient. We would love to stay here again if we are ever in Portland again.
