We live in an end terrace large 5 bedroom house very close to the centre of York, surrounded by York's Ancient City Wall literally outside the door, which protects the house from city noise and traffic.
The City Centre is only 5 minutes walk away and its a 10 minutes walk to the train station (which connects with London in 2 hours, Leeds in 20 mins, Edinburgh in 1 hour and Scarborough in 1 hour)
We have another room in the same house on Airbnb. If this one is full, check out the other room. See "Quiet & Cosy in City Centre". They are linked to this page.
Its a large 5 bedroom shared house and 4 of us live here. Jelle a photographer from Holland, his 10 year old daughter Bella who is here 2 days a week, Raquel from Spain and Toby who is a Chef and a fabulous musician.
We may not always be around for the whole time during your stay but we are always reachable to make your stay as comfortable as possible. You will get a key for the house so you can come and go as you like.
The neighbourhood called Bishophill and has a good community spirit.
There is on street parking in front of the house via permit (you can get parking tickets from us to use for £2 per day when needed)
There are lots of cafe's and restaurants and pubs within 10 minutes walk from our house.
There is an enclosed garden at the back, also great for relaxing in the summer and for secure bike storage.
The bedroom is clean, has a double bed, plenty of drawer space and fast wireless internet. The room also has a table and chair. Fresh linen and bath towels provided. This is my daughter Bella's room when she lives here from sunday till tuesday mornings. She wanted to make some extra money from her room while she was not here and staying at her mum's so by renting this room you are directly adding to her savings!
We have a large Living Room with tv, dvd and free view box which you are welcome to use.
We have 2 shared bathrooms with 2 showers and a bath.
Kitchen - There are cooking facilities available, please feel free to use our kitchen if you would like to cook. There are some shelves in the kitchen for you to use and store you things. There is lots of fridge space too. There is also a washing machine for you to use if you need to.
We don't make breakfast for you but you can help yourself to cereal, bread, condiments as well as milk, coffee, tea etc.
Having travelled extensively and using using Airbnb on several occasions we think it's a great way to stay in a city benefitting from local knowledge.
The house might not have the most modern decor but it has character and charm, it is clean and comfortable and it has a great location and handy parking.
A little factoid: the former Mayor of York lived used to live in this house.
If you have any questions feel free to ask, we want to make sure you enjoy your stay and we therefore aim to please.
Please also get in touch when it looks as though the calendar is booked up or check out the other rooms linked to this page.
Because of our central position we get booked up quickly so get in touch if you'd like to stay.
We look forward to hearing from you and to making your stay in York easy and enjoyable!
We had a great time. Everything was clean and the house is surprisingly really close to the centre! We didn't get the chance to meet Jelle but he ensured everything was ok. This is definitely the best place to stay at if you are visiting York!
Jelle is a superb host and made me feel really welcome. The room was clean, comfortable and spacious. The situation is gorgeous, with the house being right inside the historic city wall, close to the river, and the centre of the city is just a few minutes on foot. A great place to stay in a friendly house.
We stayed in Bella's room which is quite lovely! You can find a lot if toys there! The house is located just along the river. You can walk along the river to city centre or walk on the Wall as well. It is a great journey with staying in Jelle's place!
Great stay in York at jellies house. Lovely view of the historic walls. Nice firm futon bed.
Jelle was a kind host. He welcomed us on our arrival in York and gave us all the necessary information. Breakfast was laid out for us and he made our two days in York very enjoyable.
The place was really nice! The location was in a walking distance for anywhere (York is a small city) and the facilities were good. The only minor problem would be the food. We did not have enough bread provided for breakfast so had to eat cereals instead. Other than that, I'd like to stay there again.
Very good service. I Would have no hesitation in returning to this well run house.
Very pleasant stay at Jelle's place in Bella's room. The room has views on the city walls which is quite cool, the kitchen and bathroom have everything you need and the free breakfast was really appreciated!! The best thing is the location, less than 10 minute walk to the city centre and all the attractions, it is perfect for a weekend trip to this awesome city.
