The bed is built into the nook of a big window, a step up from the garden just outside. The bed is comfy and light, easily sleeping two. The antique kitchen, designer bathroom, warm common spaces and lush gardens are all at your doorstep.
The full double bed is 6"wider than standard, perfectly comfy for two. Sheets are good cotton, blankies are down, wool or silk. Colors are rich and calming. Laundry products are fragrant free.
What was once a greenhouse outside it's door is now a covered sitting porch with a row of theater seats to notice the happenings around the honey-hive, bird bath or your own wild mind. The bed is 6"wider than standard.
Here's a unique place to find yourself; a beautiful peace of countryside located 12 minutes S.W. of downtown Portland, Oregon. There's a a bit of old world here; a sweet retreat from the hipness & culture we love about Portland.
The home is nestled in the quiet & beauty of mature heritage gardens with an old forested park down the lane. You can enjoy hikes through the woods, over the stone arched bridge, or find refuge here, indoors & out. There's some good art and great books in every room.
There are 3 entrances into the garden, two with covered decks and seating
The bathroom floor is heated beneath the smooth blue pebbles; the shower is built for two.
Vintage kitchen is updated & easy. But why cook? I'll provide easy breakfast fixins'; you can make your coffee, tea, or juice in the Vita Mix.
There's a fire pit down by the grapes, and the hot tub is beneath the timber bamboo. Chickens are clucking across the creek. Our old dog Joey just watches them now.
The wood stove can be a warming comfort any season.
Its probably best to have a car here; frequent public transport is a 15 minute walk away; the bus up at the corner only comes once an hour and the winding roads don't have bike lanes, but I bike to town in 30 min. There's an organic grocer up at the corner and a few restaurants nearby but not of much note for a foodie; for that you've got to go to town!
You have access to all parts of the cottage as pictured, except the other bedroom if another guest is there.
Interaction with Guests
Socializing with us is entirely optional.
We have our own kitchen, baths and living spaces on other floors of the house. We are warm & friendly humans who can appreciate both privacy and conviviality.
The big trees. The singing birds. The sound of the creek. The friendly humans. The proximity to town.
These are a few of my favorite things.

The Rosie room is our favorite accommodation in Portland. Sally and Jake are very much like family in that they have a kind of ease and welcome that makes us feel as if we have known them for years.
The house has an eclectic charm about it, little visual surprises everywhere, as soon as you enter the front garden you have a sense of being transported to someplace special. A huge fragrant Daphne perfumes the pathway under a canopy of trees, the path leads down to the entry or on along a perimeter of bamboo to
a lush garden with paths wandering along a hillside and circling back to the house. It is so relaxing to ramble or just hang out for a while and read in the seclusion offered.
The rooms are comfortable and the kitchen fully appointed whether for morning coffee or a full on dinner. There is a great market close by and all the usual cafes etc.
I love waking up in the morning and looking out the window from the bed at the garden's invitation to start the day with a big dose of nature. I think anyone visiting Portland and wanting a different kind of stay would love this close in out of the way place.
I would recommend the Rosie Room without hesitation
We arrived to a pleasant quiet neighborhood off the beaten track and yet close enough to downtown for easy access. The hosts were warm and inviting and we were quickly put at our ease and welcomed. We were given a tour of the magical, lush, and flowering gardens and then shown to our room. The Rosie Room was just that. There was something nostalgic and yet comforting and relaxing about it. With a great view out the window and into a beautifully blooming part of the garden. We had the best sleep. The " Farmhouse" which really is a uniquely crafted older house with all sorts of beautiful creative upgrades, objects and pieces of art. Everywhere there was a sense of some other small creative touch. we loved being there and look forward to staying with Sally and Jake and Joey again.

Hospitality comes naturally to us. We've come to learn that our most enjoyable guests enjoy taking care of themselves--and cleaning up after themselves. We love the simplicity, comfort and beauty of our home place, and we welcome you to find magic in the ordinary. The guest rooms are on a separate floor from our living spaces, with 3 entrances to the garden. The garden is large & lush, with meandering paths and private places to be alone or together. It's quiet here; the air is fragrant and full, with bird songs, creek sound, and honey bees. He is a farmer and I'm a psychotherapist. I see possibility and he likes hard work. We've been a good team; having found this crooked old house on a trash dump creek 20 years ago; we've cared for and cultivated what has become a very special place. We thrive on good conversation, food, music, books, art, wine, dance, & laughter. We also like our privacy, and the structure of the house provides plenty of room to choose that. You can choose solitude or conviviality here as you like. It's a beautiful place to gather with a small group of friends if they like to talk softly or go away by 10 pm. Sound carries through the floors, so there's headphones to wear if you want to blast the stereo or watch a movie late. The TV isn't hooked up; it's good for DVDs and maybe Netflix. There's some real food in the kitchen, fresh sheets on the beds, good towels, toiletries, espresso & tea. Namaste.
