Welcome to Storylodge Farm, your tranquil retreat nestled in the heart of a picturesque apple orchard. This tiny farmhouse is one of two unique getaways on the property. Named after the "Galarina" apple variety that grows in the orchard, the tiny farmhouse beckons you to unwind and reconnect with nature in a serene setting that promises relaxation and reflection. Previously known as Zion Heritage Farm, this place encourages you to unleash your creative energy in a genuine and peaceful setting.
The space
The farm is peaceful place - a genuine place that we are happy to share with you.
The porch features rocking chairs and Edison-style twinkle lights, and the cozy interior will make you feel right at home. Inside, you'll find a full kitchen, washer & dryer, full bathroom (shower) and small work desk. The space offers two bedrooms on the 2nd floor with full-size beds; the rooms are "sleeping room only," and do not offer a sitting area.
You have access to most of the rest of the farm for wandering, contemplation, and relaxing. In the spring you find the apple blossoms in bloom (There are almost 200 trees, both dwarf and full-sized). In summer flowers bloom as apple fruitlets swell, and honeybees tend the blossoms. Late summer and fall bring the apple harvest which, depending upon variety, can last into November. You may help yourself to ripe apples, if available.
The Zion Heritage Memorial Orchard behind the "Liberty" tiny farmhouse is dedicated to the West Virginian service men and women who died in combat in Iraq and Afghanistan since 9/11. A granite memorial bench at the top of this orchard overlooks the entire farm. It is a beautiful spot for reflection.
Feel free to visit the welcoming dock that overlooks a 1/4-acre, spring-fed pond, stocked with bluegill, bass, and other small game fish. Catch-and-release fishing is allowed, although swimming and boating are not permitted. For chilly evenings on the dock, enjoy the calm and charm of the wood pellet stove.
Guest access
You will have access to all outdoor areas of the property. While guests are welcome on the dock, swimming/boating in the pond is NOT allowed. Please do not enter any spaces that are designated for authorized access only (e.g., garden, high tunnel, apiary, etc.)
When walking outdoors, please watch carefully for holes made by burrowing animals so that you don’t twist an ankle!
Please be respectful of other guests visiting the property. The small barn has a second-story art studio. If I'm there, feel free to stop by and say "hi."
Other things to note
During winter months when snow/ice are possibilities, accessing the property with a 4 wheel drive vehicle is STRONGLY recommended. The roads leading to the farm are hilly and rarely plowed.
There are other cottages on the property, and guests should expect to encounter other guests in the outdoor spaces. This is also an operational farm, and there many be farm customers, vendors, and/or events on the property as well.
Good cell phone service in the area.
Use of tobacco products anywhere on the property is prohibited.
There is an apiary (honey bees) on the premises, and stinging insects like yellow jackets and wasps are common. If you have an allergy, be sure to bring your EpiPen and any other needed medications.
For guests with young children - please note that the stairs in the cottage are open on both sides and could be a fall hazard. See photos in listing to determine whether you think it would be appropriate for your children.
