Interaction with Guests
I like to make quests feel welcome. I feel love to make their holiday a success .
Better to have a car here, the busses do run a few times a day to Carcassonne. I will pick up from the airport or station at Carcassonne for 30 euros. Taxis are more. The village is a half an hour walk away.
Other Things to Note
We love our animals, who are very friendly.
Basic consideration of others.
Rowena is an incredibly warm and welcoming host and created the perfect environment to relax and unwind. Within just a few hours of arriving, we felt utterly 'at home' !The place itself is spectacularly lovely inside and out. The beds were comfortable, everything was spotlessly clean and the bathroom had a great power shower and gorgeous, romantic views from the bathtub overlooking the valley. The chalet had an open and airy feel with lots of beautiful artifacts and paintings that made it very special and unique.
The village Caune is a treat to visit, especially as the walk there is so wonderful! It's old cobbled streets are fun to get lost in and there are some lovely restaurants and cafe's to enjoy good food and wine. However, I would highly recommend sampling Rowena's fantastic cooking-we chose to eat in several nights as the great food and company made it hard to leave. Rowena was also very helpful in providing useful information about places and activities of interest in the area and even generously offered us lifts to and from the village and to the local swimming baths as we came
Though on this occasion, we ran out of time, I am very much looking forward to an excuse to return and get creative in the beautiful pottery.
A truly magical stay. Thank you Rowena for making it so special!
Our stay with Rowena and her lovely pets was a wonderful experience. Her home was peaceful, spacious, comfortable and relaxed. Rowena's warm, friendly and helpful nature was what made our stay extra special. Each morning a delicious continental breakfast was provided, with yummy extras such as fresh figs from her tree, local melon and homemade bread. She also provided us with valuable information and interesting stories about the local village and surrounding areas This made our decision about what we were doing each day a lot easier.
Rowena made a great effort to get to know and make our teenage boys feel welcome and comfortable. Each morning at breakfast an interesting book, set of cards or brain puzzle were waiting on the table ( just in case the boys might be interested). As Rowena is also a pottery artist we also took up the opportunity to have a family pottery lesson. We enjoyed it immensely. Thank you Rowena for welcoming us into your lovely home and making our stay so special.
We very much enjoyed meeting Rowena (an expat British ceramics artist) and staying at her lovely house in the country outside of town.
The location is excellent for touring the area by car, and for us was far preferable to staying in Carcassonne itself (overrun with tourists and, except for the city walls and church, not all that prepossessing).
Rowena is a welcoming host and very easy to talk to.
Rowena is a very accommodating host, she truly extended herself towards us both before and during our stay. The house and deck are very spacious and we greatly enjoyed visiting the plunge pool and stream on-site. We loved spending time with the animals, walking with the dogs etc. A lovely place to come for time out in the countryside : )
We loved staying with Rowena at her special home. Everything felt very relaxed and the whole space - inside and out- was perfect. Our daughter felt safe and happy ( as we did) and loved the dogs, cats and even the naughty hens! A morning pottery class with Rowena added to the whole experience. Loved our conversations Rowena - and we have full intentions of making a return visit - still so much to share.Thank you.
Many thanks to Rowena to make us feel at home. We had such a great stay in Caunes, lost in the middle of the nature... Sharing with her many great times around a glass of wine or a diner on the terrace, not forgetting our friends Russel and Tikka !
The pottery class was really a discovery for us and the mastering of Rowena was greatly appreciated to create somehow a gift to bring back home.
We would recommend to anyone loving nature and simplicity to stay at Rowena's place.
Hopefully we will be back !
Beautiful relaxing stay. Missing it already. So peaceful lying in the sun listening to the sound of the river. Just what I needed as an antidote to my hectic life in London. Rowena was a fantastic host, very welcoming and extremely good company. Next time I will try doing some pottery. Her dogs are very friendly and protective, wanted to bring them home with me. All in all an excellent time was has by all.

I am a Potter and I teach beginners and host workshops for professional potters. I also help children and adults with special needs through pottery and have seen incredible results in this area.
As an animal lover, I adore living here in the heart of all this natural beauty.
I like music and fun and do appreciate peace as well. We get both here.
