Our stay with Rowena and her lovely pets was a wonderful experience. Her home was peaceful, spacious, comfortable and relaxed. Rowena's warm, friendly and helpful nature was what made our stay extra special. Each morning a delicious continental breakfast was provided, with yummy extras such as fresh figs from her tree, local melon and homemade bread. She also provided us with valuable information and interesting stories about the local village and surrounding areas This made our decision about what we were doing each day a lot easier.
Rowena made a great effort to get to know and make our teenage boys feel welcome and comfortable. Each morning at breakfast an interesting book, set of cards or brain puzzle were waiting on the table ( just in case the boys might be interested). As Rowena is also a pottery artist we also took up the opportunity to have a family pottery lesson. We enjoyed it immensely. Thank you Rowena for welcoming us into your lovely home and making our stay so special.
We very much enjoyed meeting Rowena (an expat British ceramics artist) and staying at her lovely house in the country outside of town.
The location is excellent for touring the area by car, and for us was far preferable to staying in Carcassonne itself (overrun with tourists and, except for the city walls and church, not all that prepossessing).
Rowena (email hidden) and very easy to talk to.
Rowena is a very accommodating host, she truly extended herself towards us both before and during our stay. The house and deck are very spacious and we greatly enjoyed visiting the plunge pool and stream on-site. We loved spending time with the animals, walking with the dogs (email hidden) to come for time out in the countryside : )
We loved staying with Rowena at her special home. Everything felt very relaxed and the whole space - inside and out- was perfect. Our daughter felt safe and happy ( as we did) and loved the dogs, cats and even the naughty hens! A morning pottery class with Rowena added to the whole experience. Loved our conversations Rowena - and we have full intentions of making a return visit - still so much to share.Thank you.
Many thanks to Rowena to make us feel at home. We had such a great stay in Caunes, lost in the middle of the nature... Sharing with her many great times around a glass of wine or a diner on the terrace, not forgetting our friends Russel and Tikka !
The pottery class was really a discovery for us and the mastering of Rowena was greatly appreciated to create somehow a gift to bring back home.
We would recommend to anyone loving nature and simplicity to stay at Rowena's place.
Hopefully we will be back !
Beautiful relaxing stay. Missing it already. So peaceful lying in the sun listening to the sound of the river. Just what I needed as an antidote to my hectic life in London. Rowena (email hidden), very welcoming and extremely good company. Next time I will try doing some pottery. Her dogs are very friendly and protective, wanted to bring them home with me. All in all an excellent time was has by all.
I had a wonderful stay at Rowena’s place during my recent roadtrip through southwest France. Rowena (email hidden) – very welcoming, friendly and kind-hearted. Her house is on a large tract of land in a gorgeous valley. The l’Argent Double river runs beside her house and the mountains (Montagne Noire) rise spectacularly on the sides of the valley. It is a beautiful natural setting that is rural and rustic – about 3km north of Caunes Minervois and perhaps a 25 minute drive from Carcassonne. There is a meadow, forest (including remnants of an old orchard), the river, wild flowers and the mountains. You are immersed in nature and it is a total escape from traffic, crowds and noise. Tika and Russel are Rowena’s dogs and they are very friendly and love attention and walking with you. My room was comfortable, the food was great, and the conversations with Rowena and her other guests memorable. If you have an interest in pottery, Rowena also has a studio separate from the house where she offers classes to children and adults. My only regret is that I couldn’t stay longer (and that it is a long way from the west coast of Canada)!
We had a great time relaxing, exploring and enjoying all that nature and the Minervois area has to offer. Rowena provided a genuine, warm and welcoming environment. Nestled in a beautiful valley and not far from many amazing castles, abbeys and caves. We were able to immerse ourselves in the ancient history and culture of the Cathar region, sample the local wines, learn the secrets of truffle hunting and discover some lovely walks in the surrounding hills. Well worth staying longer than a few days and definately worth a further visit!
Very welcoming and warm host, Rowena provides a friendly and relaxed place to stay. Other guests were also there and everyone was very helpful about places to go and see around the area. All in all very enjoyable stay- wish it could have been longer! thanks Rowena
