About this listing
This beautiful four bedroom home is the perfect place to use as homebase for your Richmond getaway. This 1920 home has a lovely blend of Craftsman style furnishings and interior touches. The family room features a large sectional sofa, a 46 inch HDTV flatscreen TV with Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime, as well as lots of windows and gorgeous light. The living room is the perfect place to sit down and recount the day's adventures by the fireplace or over a meal prepared in the gas kitchen, cooked on the backyard grill, or delivered from any of the fine restaurants nearby. The ample bedrooms are each furnished with 32 inch flat screen HDTV televisions, as well as iPod docking clock radios. The house also features a local Richmond art & good books on area history.
The Home: Your home away from home in one of the most historic cities in the world includes a formal living room with a dining area with seating for 6, family room with a large sofa and TV, all gas kitchen, three large bedrooms (One King, Two Queen) , and a smaller fourth bedroom outfitted as an office (but which can be furnished with a Pack and Play), one full bathroom with bathtub, and one half bath . The approx. 1900 sq. ft. four square layout is very traditional to this area, and features hardwood flooring, original craftsman design details like french doors and mullioned windows, and both vintage & modern furnishings. The bedrooms are located on the second floor along with the full bath and a sun porch. There is a large fenced backyard as well as a park at the end of the block for the little ones to play. There is also off street parking for one car and freely available on street parking in front of the house for others.
Close to everything: The home has a spectacular location which is central to most of Richmond's attractions. You can walk to historic Belle Isle and a lot of the James River Park system less than a mile away. The fan, Hollywood Cemetery, The Poe Museum, Tredagar Iron Works, Monument Avenue, Church Hill, and VCU are all less than 10 minutes by car. Downtown, MCV, Hollywood Cemetery, the State Capital, the Confederate White House, Shokoe Bottom, and Interstate 95 are more like 5 minutes. Further afield, there is a lot of Civil War history nearby and a day trip to Charlottesville, the Smithsonian or Colonial Williamsburg are worth considering.
The Neighborhood: Woodland Heights is a tree-lined neighborhood of primarily single family homes with a small number of multi family homes. It sits between Historic Manchester (home to late 1800s industrial warehouses which are no loft spaces and retail) and Forest Hill (which features a number of restaurants, shops, and taverns). Each neighborhood is about 1 mile long, so the walk from my house to the Manchester Arts district or Forest Hill Shopping district is 10-15 minutes, and the drive is less than 5.

This house is absolutely lovely. A group of 6 of us stayed here for a friends wedding and we had a blast. When we arrived there was a vase of fresh cut roses on the dining room table, such a lovely touch. The house is warm and inviting with lots of character! It was super easy to get to the house and it had plenty around it to explore. We visited the James river and Belle isle which is only a 5 min drive from the house. Each room has great decor and super comfortable beds! And the house has a full kitchen and charcoal bbq in the back yard. This house made our trip to Virginia that much better and if we are ever in Richmond VA again we will be using this spot!
Chris's place is amazing! One of the rare times where the photos on the listing accurately portray how bring, clean, and inviting this home is. My colleagues and I immediately felt at home in the spacious, comfortable house, and we slept great in the comfortable beds. The location is wonderful too - a very short drive to downtown and we were walking distance from beautiful hiking and running trails along the river. Chris gave us all the information we needed and was very responsive. If I ever come back to Richmond, I would love to stay here again!
A group of girlfriends and I got together for a weekend in Richmond and Chris' home was perfect for us. It's spacious, the beds are very comfortable, and we really appreciated having a full kitchen available to cook in. Relaxing in the living room and watching a movie truly felt like we were in someone's home. The house has so much charm, as well! Chris was readily available by email and provided all of the information we needed in advance of our arrival. If I find myself back in Richmond I would love to stay here again.
This home is amazing - beautiful, clean, and exactly as pictured. Although we didn't have time to cook anything there, the kitchen has everything you could need. Our entire experience went seamlessly, and Chris responded to every email or question almost immediately. The beds were comfortable and everything we could have needed was provided. As we were in town for a family gathering, we didn't have a lot of time for sightseeing. However, we did walk down the street to the cute local park, and there is a great running trail nearby also. The location was perfect for us. I have stayed at several airbnb homes and this is easily one of the best. Chris was not there while we were, but he made it super easy from initial contact through checkout and I highly recommend his place.
Chris' s house was perfect place for our family to celebrate my daughter's graduation from VCU. It is clean, comfortable, and welcoming and Chris gave all the info we needed to know. We enjoyed walking a few blocks to the boat launch at the James River and over the pedestrian bridge to Belle Isle where we met kayakers, mountain bikers and hikers. The kitchen , living space, and yard had everything we needed to host a small party after graduation and then to relax with a movie later Richmond local guests said we'd found a gem and we agree!
Communication was fine. House was charming & CLEAN throughout. Fully stocked with more than everything you would expect. Pleasant quiet neighborhood. Great 1st time experience with AirBNB.

About the Host, Chris
I purchased a property when living in Richmond in 2006. I had just left an apartment and Richmond looked like a long term locale for me so I took the plunge and bought.
Lo and behold, everything started changing and I wound up leaving Richmond, spending a year traveling before moving back to San Francisco where I'd been living until 2002.
For a few years I had long term tenants, but I wanted to share the house and the location with vacationers, as well as use it myself a few weeks each year so it has been re purposed as a turn-key spot to spend your Richmond vacation.
Then, when back in San Francisco I started doing AirBNB with my guest apartment when I didn't have friends in town.
