Brand new, custom built apartment nestled in a lovely back garden; lush with fruit trees and passion flowers. The apartment is built in the lower portion of our home. There are two separate and private entrances, a fully equipped kitchen, and a comfortable sitting room with views to the garden and the Monterey Bay. There is a comfortable outdoor seating area with a propane BBQ available for your use. The bedroom has a queen bed and a full bathroom adjacent. There is room for a queen blowup mattress in the sitting room, which we can provide upon request. Children are welcome and we can offer a portable crib if needed. We can also provide you with a list of local babysitters as well.
We are a family of four which includes our two young sons. My husband is from London and I come from Big Sur. We have both traveled extensively and know what it means to land in a quiet, clean and well-thought out living space. While the backyard is a shared space, we are rarely in it and happy to make it exclusively yours should you prefer that.
The apartment is situated in the Westside of Santa Cruz, a virtual stone's throw from Natural Bridges State Park and Wilder Ranch. The apartment is within walking distance to yoga, the weekly Farmers Market (Saturday), breweries, and great restaurants. We are also very close to the University.
The City of Santa Cruz requires an 11% tax for all visitors. This fee is also charged in local hotels. AirBnB has not devised a way for us to collect this fee built into the price. Once you have booked we will let you know how much the tax fee will be which you can pay by tax or personal check.

Jennifer and Hugo are thoughtful, accommodating hosts and our 3-day stay was very positive. The place is ideal for couples, we had a baby with us which worked fine too. Spare toiletries and towels were plentiful, the location was very convenient for exploring Santa Cruz, and there were some great food/coffee/grocery options within close walking distance. The West End Tap room was a fantastic family-friendly recommendation by Jennifer, and we have some great hikes in Wilder Ranch (Enchanted Loop) and Henry Cowells Redwoods State park.
The pictures do not do this apartment justice in demonstrating the cozy environment! We really wanted a little private retreat and this was so perfect! The kitchen is stocked with all the essentials one would need to make a decent meal. We went grocery shopping at their community market co-op for excellent goods and didn't think twice about having the right openers or pans etc. the apt was very tastefully decorated and stocked for comfort all around. Super clean.
Totally accessible and delightful hosts but honestly the apartment is so private we hardly realized it was attached.
Excellent neighborhood close to lots of great restaurants and art studios. Walking distance to the beach. Short drive to the boardwalk and downtown although we walked there several days. Also close to dummy proof hiking areas all noted in the welcome packet they leave you.
It was just what we needed, loved it, will hopefully return soon!
We were very impressed by the newly renovated and we'll equipped guest apartment. Our hosts made every effort to make us feel at home and provide helpful information on the local parks and activities. This was a perfect spot for a young family and we would not hesitate to stay here again.

My 6-year-old and I had a comfortable stay at Jen and Hugo's on a weekend packed with extended family events. Jen, Hugo, and their two friendly boys were welcoming, accommodating, and quick to help when I had questions.
The apartment welcomed us with fresh tomatoes and apples from the garden and a basket of Legos for my son to enjoy. The perfect size for two, we enjoyed the living room's view and access into the idyllic backyard. The bathroom seemed roomy, and the oversized shower stall felt luxurious. The kitchen was great for the few meals we had there.
When I booked the apartment, I expected some noise with two little boys living upstairs. It was minimal.
The location was central to our events, and I appreciated its proximity to the grocery store for breakfast and snacking essentials.
If we need a place in Santa Cruz again, we'll go back!
We absolutely loved Jen and Hugo's place!!! We wish we could have stayed at least a week....so much that we almost didn't want to leave the place.
The apples from the backyard are delicious, and it's so peaceful and relaxing....highly highly recommend!
