We loved our stay at the Pineapple Hill Cottage. The house was exactly as shown in the pictures, and maybe even a bit more charming. The view from the front porch is incredible with the trees and ocean. We spent every morning eating breakfast under the banana trees in the front yard with the great view. The location was excellent, just a 5 minute walk to downtown Port Antonio where my favorite cookshop (zilly's kitchen) is located. The house was very clean and had all the things we needed to cook in the kitchen. The bed we slept in was very comfortable, and even though there wasn't air conditioning, Port Antonio cools off quite a bit at night, and with the fan on, we didn't get too hot and were able to sleep great! Port Antonio is a great place to be to experience the best of Jamaica with wonderful people, hardly any tourists, and a ton to do!! One of our favorite things we did while here was a boat trip from the blue lagoon to monkey island to snorkel. I previously lived in Jamaica for a couple years and I can honestly say that this place was a dream vacation, and we will definitely return in future trips.
Situated on a hill at the heart of Port Antonios' local community this apartment facilitates a taste of real Jamaica. Local residents were friendly and helpful, showing us were to buy fresh fish, fruit, veg, groceries etc, all within reasonable walking distance, and even supplying some of their own 'home grown' veggies. Had there been any concerns regarding security these were rapidly allayed by the presence of neighbourhood pets (dogs, goats and cockerels); nothing getting past them without one almighty chorus. Rain or shine, nothing could spoil the serenity and pricelessness of fantastic balcony views although this came at a cost, a fair few steps to climb before accessing the apartment, but certainly worth it. Furnishings were reasonable with a good supply of utensils, crockery and cleaning equipment. Excellent support/communication by hosts, Owen @ Marcia, throughout the booking process and duration of our stay. Overall apartment is to be well recommended.
A few friends and I decided to stay here while in Jamaica and it was the best decision we ever made. The house is beautiful, the neighbourhood is so vibrant and lively and teeming with life - reggae, conversation, insects, birds, roosters, goats, dogs, and every shade of green you can imagine! So many flowers! The ocean view every day! The moon at night! And friendly and fascinating neighbours who come up just to lime and make sure you're all good. Really a lovely experience to be here, and Owen and Marcia were fantastic about communicating from afar and making sure we were well taken care of. Thank you for the time of our lives! :)
Pineapple Hill is fantastic! We were looking for the real Jamaica and we found it in Port Antonio: a vibrant, friendly and beautiful town on the east coast. As soon as we pulled up in our car, George, the neighbor and host for the villa, greeted us with a smile that never left his face. George became our friend immediately. He showed us around the town that night and took us to some great food windows for jerk chicken, festivals, and patties - all great. We finished the night at Colors, the little bar at the foot of the hill leading up to the villa. We talked to many people - everyone was so welcoming and friendly. Truly an amazing night.
On the next day we went to the Blue Lagoon and Winifred Beach - you should too. That night we bought some fish and vegetables and grilled with George, Ann-marie, Trish, and the rest of the family. George showed us how to make a basket too! We were so sad to leave the next day.
Do yourself a favor and stay at this beautiful villa, with a porch overlooking the bay, and the friendliest host and neighbors you'll ever meet!
My boyfriend and I as well as another couple just finished our week stay at the cottage. We could not have asked for a better experience, or a better place to stay. The cottage was exactly how it looked in the pictures, clean, spacious and well equipped. The view from the balcony was beautiful and I spent many hours just staring at the scenery. The neighborhood is safe, welcoming and full of beauty. The cottage is within 10 minute walk to the town center where you can find anything you need (bank, groceries, fresh produce from the market) as well as being walking distance to a small, semi private beach. Although there is no air conditioning we had no problem sleeping or spending time inside. There was a constant sound of dogs, roosters or goats outside but it added to the experience and was never a nuisance. I would 100% recommend renting the cottage and enjoying the experience of a true Jamaican neighborhood.
Be sure to contact Trisha and get a home cooked traditional Jamaican dinner (it was delicious), and she was very friendly.
We also appreciated the contact for Kevin who was able to pick us up from the air port as well as showing us many must see attractions close to town. He acted as a fantastic guide and gave us many tips. He made our trip very enjoyable , it was nice to have a friend to show us around.
Lastly, Owen and Marcia were very fast in replying to any questions that we had, they made the planning much easier.
Anne Marie and her family were very welcoming.
Her step father was supportive and ensured we were safe
The residence was as described and was in a real Jamaican environment. The house was clean and a pleasure to stay in.
We had hired a car and made us of the car space, but the space is "tight" and the "3 point" turn to get back out requires you to trust the hosts- I had my heart in my mouth for this part of the stay.
My husband and I arrived at night and at first had difficulty finding the place. However, a friendly taxi driver came to our aid and Ann Marie was immediately there to assist and welcome us. The cottage view was indeed spectacular and the inside was basic but comfortable. The family who welcomed us brought fresh apples over in the morning and check out was easy. I was glad we'd packed ear plus as the roosters and dogs were definitely noticeable. We wish we'd had more time there.
