In this neighborhood you will also hear dogs , cats and goats. In addition there are chickens that go to sleep in trees by night and joyfully announce the breaking of dawn and the rising of the morning sun,You might even ocassionally hear singing coming from a local church, in addition to the sweet pulsing beat of reggae music in the air, all adding to the flavor of this neighborhood. An amazing experience in Port Antonio at a great location! Thank you for the comfortable stay, amazing view of the bay, and wonderful suggestions of nearby places and experiences. Truly, it made our trip!
Marcia and Owen are wonderful Air bnb hosts. Even though they were not physically there to greet us, they were in communication with us every step of the way. They made sure my daughter and I were well taken care of by the property attendant, Ann Marie. She met us outside of the property as our taxi was driving us up the road. The cottage is absolutely adorable!! I have a fussy teenager and it certainly earned her stamp of approval. It's located up in the hills of Port Antonio and attracts a nice breeze from the ocean across the way. It's a short walk to the town center, which is busy and vibrant. The neighbors were friendly and made us feel very welcome, as did the hostess Ann Marie and her lovely family. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Port Antonio and only wished we had extended our time there.
Our Host was effient and reachable. We called her a few times for direction to the property and at last turn she sent someone down the hll to guide us up. The neighborhood was a bit on the congested side with rock steep roads to drive up.
We had a great relaxing stay at the pineapple hill cottage!
It has a fantastic view to the sea and the contact who gave us the keys was very nice, dependable and helpful with any directions.
Thank you for the experience to live in the heart of Port Antonio!
Our stay at the cottage was an awesome experience! The neighbors were very welcoming and gave us helpful tips. Ann-Marie was very sweet and helped us get setup. The house was clean and tidy when we arrived. Overall excellent experience.
Most people choose to go to the safer, resorty kind of place (Negril, Montego bay, etc) while they are traveling in Jamaica but if you are looking to explore and get to see just a peek of 'real Jamaica', I recommend this place. Although, Port Antonio is also a pretty big town, I found the small town feel very charming. The house is on a hill with a lovely sea view that makes it intimate and very romantic especially for honeymoon. The neighbors who hosted us were the sweetest people and they made our stay in Port antonio very special. Tricia, in particular was extra special. We got to know her better as she prepared a Caribbean style dinner at our house. Considering how short our stay was, she made us feel like family and even stayed while we were eating to share a conversation with us. You would have to pay for the ingredients and cooking fee of course:) She talked about her family and her history at the house. Something to keep in mind about Jamaica in general before you make a decision to travel here, things are pricier than you might expect (ie. Transportation, food, tours, etc) the reason why I mention this is because for first timers, you will at feel as though you are getting ripped off but in all reality, things are pricey even for the locals.
A friendly tip: if you're on a budget, check out jerk stands and pattie trucks. Super delicious and pretty affordable. But even the jerk stands that locals recommended, it's a good 5 bucks for a meal.
After 3 days in pineapple hill, Tricia and her son greeted us goodbye with a warm hug and it was sad to leave but we made a promise to someday return once we start a family of our own!!
This was amazing.
After a pretty arduous week-long journey across Jamaica, we were SO pleasantly surprised by how this listing exceeded our expectations.
Owen and Marcia were the sweetest hosts throughout the process. They were always available remotely through AirBnb chat. Their on-site host, Ann-Marie is a lovely person and took great care of us.
If you're thinking of visiting Port Antonio, stay here. The house is very, very nice, fully equipped and in a perfect location.
It was a great choice to stay in such a central location, close to an expansive fruit market. From here, we took route taxis ($1-2 per person!) to local beaches every day.
