THE VIEWS, THE VIEWS, THE VIEWS! The photos do not exaggerate how stunning the vistas are from this well maintained little cottage on Pineapple Hill. From sunrise to sundown you can watch the light changing, not to mention the goats and chickens using the path below the cottage.
Everything worked and the kitchen was well stocked with just about anything you might need. We cooked most of our meals. No AC, cable TV or WIFI but it is noticeably cooler and breezy in Port Antonio than Mobay or Negril so we did not miss the AC. And unplugging from our toys for 3 days and walking up and down the hill a few times a day into town and meeting our neighbors felt like we were living there, not just passing through.
We had a car a parked it close but still had to carry our luggage up the path to the cottage. Anne Marie, the very pleasant and helpful caretaker helped with our bags. So, you should have the full use of both legs to be able to navigate the hill.
It was wonderful waking up the roosters crowing and falling asleep with with the crickets humming. Bring good mosquito repellant if they like you. The last night they fell in love with me - smile.
My friend and I really enjoyed Pineapple Hill. I highly recommend for anyone looking for an authentic Jamaican experience away from the all inclusive resorts in one of its most beautiful towns to take a chance with Owen and Marcia.
Our stay at Pineapple had both very pleasant and unpleasant aspects. Firstly, everyone we were in contact - from Owen&Marcia in advance, to AnnMarie over the phone, to Tricia and George on a daily basis - went above and beyond to make our stay as warm and welcoming as we have experienced anywhere. Tricia in particular was so loving and kind, especially with our daughter - and has the biggest smile on the island. But our stay was somewhat mired by two facts. Firstly, the noise level in the neighborhood is quite disruptive; virtually everyone in the neighborhood has a guard dog(s), who bark anytime anyone is walking anywhere (which is frequently, as you can imagine) - and sets up a symphony of dogs around the area barking for what seems like forever - and frequently, at all hours of the night. I wear earplugs at night, but was woken multiple times every night. My husband and daughter did not have that luxury, so their rest was even more frustrating. Then add the roosters and chickens who pick up when the dogs let up. Also, I love dogs - but having the neighboring dogs run, jump, bark (and in one case, bite my bag I put between us) along the fence you need to walk along to get to the house is not comforting, especially for my husband carrying our daughter. Secondly, the home does not have wifi available as advertised. They have the modem, but we were told you have to purchase a Digicel card, which is approx $4/day. After we did that, AnnMarie unlocked the modem from storage and explained she would plug it in and I could plug in the cord to my device. But I had a tablet, as I had initially explained - so no 'wireless' to be had. This wouldn't have typically been a sore spot, but we left Port Antonio as our 'planning' spot for the second half of our trip and having internet was a must (and one of the reasons we choose this rental). So we ended up having to spend two of our afternoons in the library to get wifi, instead of - preferably - at the beach. The house does have TV - but it only gets one (local) channel.
On some of its plus sides, the house has a beautiful view from the porch. The hosts left us a bowl of fresh fruit to welcome us, and brought us Jamaican apples a few times since they knew how much we loved them. Hot water was abundant -- always a nice bonus.
We must thank Jessica for expressing what she describes as "pleasant" part of her stay at our cottage, but must also dispute totally her statement that we advertised that the house has wi-fi. That is totally False, there is no where on the site where this is indicated, and in looking through all our e-mail contacts with her there is no mention of wi-fi. The site does mention having wireless internet( a modum throuh which one can access the internet) So again that is a false accusation which the guest shoul retract.
Concerning dogs being in the neighborhood, that is correct. However we adress that fact on the site as being part of the flavor of the neighborhood including chickens and goats Owning dogs( not guard dogs as she indicated),chickens etc is a part of the fabric of the jamaican lifestyle especially in rural Jamaica. We are sorry Jessica did not appreciate this part of the culture. The cottage is located among the local people and not on a resort, where one would expect some peace and quiet. Any one who take time to read the information will get that. Again we are sorry Jessica did not totally enjoy her stay as ALL OUR OTHER GUESTS HAVE. (Read their reviews.
We spent 3 nights at the Pineapple Hill on our honeymoon to Jamaica and absolutely loved staying there. The cottage was clean and comfy and all the neighbours very friendly towards us.
The best moments were when we woke up before sunrise and watched the city to come alive with the light: The forest behind the cottage was making sounds, the roosters kept shouting, chicken flew down from the trees and the next door neighbour took the goats down to the fields... wonderful memories!
We recommend it to everybody who is looking for something different from all inclusive resorts and want to experience more of the real Jamaican lifestyle.
My boyfriend and I had a great stay at Pineapple Hill Seaview Cottage! The house was as pictured in the photographs and the view is amazing! The location was extremely convenient, as it was just a short walk into town. The house keeper Ann-Marie and neighbor George helped make us feel at home. For an additional fee, our hosts and Ann-Marie arranged for breakfast to be cooked upon our arrival and during our stay and it was absolutely delicious! The driver that Marcia and Owen recommended was prompt and always available. It was great that the driver lived within walking distance of the cottage as well. The cottage was clean and I felt safe. If I visit Port Antonio in the future, I would love to come back to Pineapple Hill!
Pineapple Hill Sea View Cottage is wonderful location very near downtown Port Antonio in a quiet neighborhood. The cottage provided everything we needed to cook our own meals and enjoy wonderful views from both the veranda and the patio. Marcia and Owen also provided us with a grill so we could make a special meal. George and Dimple were our neighborhood hosts who made sure we always had everything we needed and answered all of our questions. I will definately come back and stay at Pineapple Hill Sea View Cottage again, beautiful and relaxing, perfect!
We stayed a couple of nights at the lovely Pineapple Hill Sea View Cottage recently. Our hosts Owen and Marcia were very friendly and helpful and welcomed us with complimetary fruit. The cottage is neat and clean, and we certainly would return for future visits. Also, we do recommend them to other airbnb members
We loved the cottage and the view was what really made it! I didnt realise that there was so much rain in Port Antonio!!! that was the only downside for us but of course that was beyond anyones control. We had a very nice stay - Port Antonio is a great base with lots to see and explore in the vicinity. Owen and Marcia were very responsive - called and gave me great directions and their Caretaker Ann-Marie is a total gem, the neighbours are very friendly as well. I would recommend this place to anyone - it is also a very easy walk into town.I loved Port Antonio and hope to visit again soon
We spent 3 days at this lovely house and definitely recommend this place. Everything was perfect. We even spend Christmas with Anne-Mare’s, the person in charge, family and friends who offer us to join them. The place is clean, well located, the neighborhood is welcoming, the view is one of the best in town… It’s well located to walk around Port Antonio and to get a “route taxi” to get to the different beaches. Great choice !!!
We had an amazing time at Pineapple Hill. The house is very comfy, clean and has everything you need for a self-catered stay in Port Antonio. It's in walking distance of the city center and the on-site hostess Ann-Marie and her whole family made our stay there one of the most memorable vacations ever. Super friendly and welcoming and extremly helpful in finding our way around town and with things to do and see in and around the city. We even had a little Barbecue at the end of our stay and left as friends. Port Antonio is a great place to stay and to explore the surrounding coastline from. No hustlers, good prices and many things to do.We stayed for 6 nights and didn't regret a single minute of it!
