CASITA DEL REY is a charming, private 2-room, 560-sq foot cowboy guesthouse on a stunning 5-acre estate, including a first-class equine therapy facility for horses and the rescue of donkeys in the SW U.S.

We have it all...charm, nature and comfort! A gorgeous pool, sunset patios & chance to get up-close to horses, donkeys & goats! Amenities: kitchenette, refrig, stove top, steam shower, basketball court, picnic/BBQ area, walking paths, high-speed WiFi/HDTV, shopping/dining/UofA w/in 5 minutes!

The space
In 2021, Casita Del Rey was ranked the #2 AirBNB in Tucson by travel guide Follow Me Away, writing “We should start by mentioning that this beautiful Tucson Airbnb is home to Mediterranean miniature donkeys, horses, Nigerian Dwarf and Pygmy goats, and chickens. Hanging out with these animals is just the tip of the iceberg as far as what this impressive 5-acre property can offer you during your stay.

“The small one-bedroom casita exudes southwest charm and is the perfect place to rest your head at night, but the real fun is found right outside the door.

“When you’re not visiting the animals you can cool off and kick back at the pool, shoot some hoops on the basketball court, relax in the courtyard, or grill at the BBQ pit.

“When you’re ready to venture outside the property to explore the rest of Tucson, you’ll find that a short drive will take you to downtown Tucson or to excellent hiking trails in the Catalina Foothills.” (Follow Me Away’s “15 Best Air BNBs in Tucson”, January 4, 2021).

To mark the end of each day and to honor the servicemen and women who’ve made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our freedoms, a 58-second Taps bugle call will sound on the Casita Del Rey grounds every night at Civil Dusk (approximately 25 minutes after official sunset) and at High Noon on both Memorial Day and Veterans Day.

Also on the Casita Del Rey estate resides the first-class El Dorado Stables for the Oracle Institute, the home to equine therapy horses and the rescue of donkeys from throughout the SW United States. Book now and be able to enjoy these beautiful animals!

Guest access
Guests have access to the estate property, but may only enter the corral areas with either Kiki or Patrick due to safety considerations.

Feel free, however, to observe and watch our horses, Mediterranean miniature donkeys, Nigerian dwarf and Pygmy goats, and chickens from outside the fence line. Guests wanting to interact with the animals inside the fence line or corrals, can set up a time with Patrick or Kiki to see these wonderful creatures up close.

The pool (unheated) is located behind the fenced area around the main house. Do be sure to close and secure the gates at all times. This keeps unwanted wildlife from getting into the yard.

Thank you!

Other things to note
Careful: Desert wildlife is abundant! For safety, pets must be watched (a leash is best) while outside. Children should not be left unattended. Earlier this year a mountain lion was spotted on the property. Bobcats, coyotes, and javelina are also very common to the area.

Comfort: We aim to please! We have provided two Casita Del Rey robes (these can also be purchased), two sets of towels, pool/swim towels, clean sheets, and 4 pillows. No need to bring your sound machine or a clock radio! However, you might want to bring a camera or binoculars. We have "glamping" items too-a hammock and lantern, grill, charcoal and (hopefully) all the things you may need. Your comfort is important to us as you adventure about in your home away from home!

Location

Tucson, Arizona, United States

While the property is private, the location is ideal. Casual and fine dining can be found just minutes away. Boutiques and malls are also just a short drive from the casita. Located only 13 miles (25-minute drive) from Tucson International Airport and 7 miles from the University of Arizona and downtown.

Hiking trails up to Romeo Falls in the Catalina State Park is 8 miles away from Casita Del Rey and is one of the most popular outdoor activities. The Finger Rock trail begins at the base of the Santa Catalina Mountains and offers hikers varying degrees of difficulty, culminating in phenomenal southern Arizona views and 2,000 shear drop-off cliffs. Finger Rock is a 20-minute drive from our location. The always popular Sabino Canyon, with hiking or tram rides options, gives visitors a chance to spot wild Big Horn sheep!

Inside Casita Del Rey you'll find all our recommendations on dining and experiencing many of the sights in Tucson and around southern Arizona. We provide addresses and driving times to main attractions such as the famous Arizona Sonoran Desert Museum, the Old Tucson Studios' movie set, Tucson's Botanical Gardens, tasting Arizona Wine Country, exploring Kartchner Caverns, learning about our solar system at the Kitt Peak Observatory, historic Bisbee and Tombstone towns, and many other popular hotspots.

Patrick served 24 years in the United States Air Force, mostly as a C-130 pilot and presidential advance agent for Air Force One. After many moves, his career finally landed us in sunny Tucson. We love The Old Pueblo! Patrick now works as a government contract instructor pilot and I am a clinical therapist. When not working, we enjoy traveling or spending time with family and friends. We also love to entertain and work on projects around our 5 acre property. Come stay at Casita Del Rey- it would be our pleasure to show you around! Warmly, Kiki.
