Great location, spacious room in two-bedroom apartment. Courtyard access, nice living room, and cheery kitchen. Super close to bars, restaurants, L and J/M/Z subways.
Great location, spacious room in two-bedroom apartment. Courtyard access, nice living room, and cheery kitchen. Super close to bars and restaurants.
Spacious, private room in a ground floor, two-bedroom apartment. It has its own entrance to the main hallway, giving you the option of entering directly to it, or entering through the front door and walking through the living room. The room you're renting has a (non-working) fireplace, two windows, a closet, table and chairs, chest, and comfy, full-size bed. Included are clean sheets and towels, duvet, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, and toothpaste.
I live in the other private room, and will be home during your stay, although I work a bunch and am never home as much as I'd like!
The apartment offers access to a tree-shaded courtyard (which is shared with the three other apartments in the building), a nice living room with tons of art and plants, and cheery kitchen with all the cooking tools you'd need, and a stove and toaster oven, if you'd like to cook! I also have a drip coffee maker and a French press, and have tea and coffee for you. The apartment is nicely decorated throughout, check out the pictures. And when you arrive, don't judge a book by its cover; while the outside of the building is (ahem) "old school" and graffiti-covered, the inside is homey and spacious, with exposed brick and high ceilings. And overall, in my opinion, way nicer and more homey than the new glass and steel behemoths that are popping up all over the area. Please note that because the apartment is so centrally located, and the bedroom you'll be renting is adjacent to the street, you may hear the murmur of folks walking by outside, especially on weekends. If you are especially sensitive to noise when going to sleep, this apartment may not be the best choice for you.
To reach the subway, it's an approx. 6-minute walk to the Lorimer/Metropolitan L or G train, or a 10-minute walk to the Bedford L train. It's an approx. 10-minute walk to the Broadway J/M/Z train.
You're just minutes away from tons of restaurants, bars, stores, and a grocery store on Grand Street, Havermeyer, and Roebeling. I'll leave you with a guide to my local favorites, as well as suggestions if you have a specific hankering. I love to meet travelers and give recommendations! I will also leave you with maps to Brooklyn and Manhattan. Many travelers who stay with me are surprised how much time they end up staying in Williamsburg and other areas of Brooklyn, and not as much time in Manhattan as they expected. Don't be surprised if you find yourself doing the same.
Feel free to contact me with any questions about my place, or the area at large! I love my neighborhood and am happy to share it with cool folks, and want you to make the most of your stay.
Access to entire apartment, except for my bedroom, which I will be in.
Interaction with Guests
Love to meet travelers and give recommendations.
L train at Bedford Ave. approx. 8 minute walk, L/G at Lorimer/Metropolitan approx. 6 minute walk.
I am limited to hosting one or two guests at a time, whether you are friends or a couple. You may not bring additional guests home with you.
I have neighbors who live in the apartment above me. They're cool, but please be courteous, especially about noise later in the evening.
Brian was absolutely great. The room was beautiful. Everything was accessible and the pages that he left for us in the room with details about what to do in Williamsburg made our stay easy and interesting. I met brian once when i just arrived and we had a very nice conversation in the livingroom. During the week he was out, so we didn't get a chance to say goodbye. Next time! Great place for two people!
If I tried to imagine the best airbnb host/experience ever, Brian surpassed that. This place was perfect: the location is off the hook, the room is massive and well heated, and Brian has excellent taste resulting in some pretty trippy decor. Brian was an outstanding host -- he genuinely wants his guests to get the best of what williamsburg has to offer. He hooked me up with some great tacos. He has thought of all the details. Its quite impressive, really. Also -- he has a good hairdryer on hand, which is like, key making sure you have good hair.
We had a great time staying in Brian's apartment. The room is quite spacious and Brian made sure we had everything we needed (including clean towels and toothpaste). Also, everything looked as adorable IRL as it does on the photos. Brian was a welcoming and relax host and gave us a lot of awesome tips on where to go and what to do in NY.
Furthermore, Williamsburg is a nice place to stay while exploring NYC as it houses tons of nice places to eat, shop or drink. Manhattan is just a short subway ride away from the metro stop that is quite close to the apartment.
As was mentioned in an other review before: don't be mislead by the graffiti covered entrance of the building - Brian's house was a perfect and homey starting point for our lovely stay in New York.
Brian was an incredibly welcoming host and made us feel at home as soon as we walked through the door. He's obviously put a lot of thought and care into ensuring all his guests have a lovely stay: there were maps and books of Manhattan and the local area for us to peruse, little bottles of shampoo, conditioner and, of course, Dr Bronner's Magic Soap for us to use, umbrellas and even earplugs in case it's a noisy night!
The room was spacious and wonderfully decorated: as was the rest of the apartment. It had a separate entrance straight into the room, which was lovely so we didn't have to worry about disturbing anyone whatever time we got in.
It was an absolute pleasure to meet Brian, a warm and genuine soul who made us feel completely at home and was more than happy to chat with us until the early hours. He also showed us round ACME studios where he works, which is AMAZING. If you get chance to visit, you must.
Can't recommend staying here highly enough!
We had a great week at Brian's place.
The apartment has an almost David Lynchian vibe -in a good way- with owls, ships and all kinds of stuff everywhere. Very cool. Despite all the decorations that could potentially gather dust, the place is pretty much spotless. Everything that might need it, has labels with handy instructions. There are some handy guides and maps in the room as well as beer in the fridge you're welcome to have.
Before we got there Brian responded quickly to messages, with helpful tips on what subway lines to take and such. When we got there, he wasn't home, but after a call he turned up within 10 minutes. He made us feel right at home, with a short introduction to the house before he was of to work again.
After that, we only saw him a couple of times. When we did meet, it was very pleasant. We got to visit the photo studio where he works, a very cool place. If you visit, demand to see the bathrooms, they are amazing.
The location is pretty central in Williamsburg, surrounded by good bars and restaurants. It's not around the corner from a subway station, but there are three within easy walking distance (5-10 min), giving you access to multiple lines. If you don't have to wait for a train, you can be in Manhattan in a quarter hour.
Some reviews mention the noise. In our experience it's actually pretty quiet most of the time. The street isn't very busy so most of the time you wouldn't know you're in one of the busiest cities in the world. When there are people talking in the street or when one of the residents of the other apartments in the building come home, you can hear it really well, but that's only occasionally.
One night we came home as Brian was having a small gathering in his living room with music that was VERY loud in our room, but that was over at around 11:15. And I'm certain we could have joined in the fun if we had been so inclined and they probably would have turned it down had we asked. Also, the place was still spotless even after the party.
All in all, I would really recommend this place for a visit to New York.
My name is Brian. I run a photo studio, prop house, and set-building shop in Williamsburg, BK, about ten minutes from my apartment. We do some really cool stuff. I love living in Brooklyn and am happy to share it with travelers!
Life motto: say yes more than no.
