About this listing
LILACS AND PEONIES ARE OUT! Ramblers, walkers, hikers and climbers will find this a great time of year in this area - Rumney Rocks folks are welcome!
PLEASE NOTE at bottom of this section on details how the pricing works! If two rooms are used, that makes a difference. When you reserve if you have more than two people and would like to use the family room for sleeping, we'll make you a "special offer" which reflects this!
LENGTH OF STAY: We ask that weekend bookings cover two nights, although we sometimes make exceptions. Holiday weekends are three nights, and there is a small price different for 4th of July weekend and Labor Day weekend.
The house is charming and quiet on 7 acres. We are at the edge of a small town right next to the White Mountain National Forest. Nice art, good books, games and children's toys, and homemade bread for breakfast!
The bedroom has a very comfortable double bed, and there's a large family-type room which has a fold out (also comfortable but low) couch - and your own private wonderful bathroom with a hand-built wooden tub, both in the back wing of our home for real privacy. You are welcome to enjoy the gardens and a deck for strolling and sitting. This is a perfect location for hiking, climbing and biking - and there's a great swimming hole down the road in the Baker River. There's world class rock climbing at the famous Rumney Rocks, the Appalachian Trail goes through the town, Baker and Pemi Rivers are close by for terrific kayaking or canoeing - an outdoor lover's paradise! We're an easy distance from Plymouth State University, Squam Lake (AKA "Golden Pond"), Franconia Notch and the Flume, Loon and Waterville mountains. .
Suitable for a single person, a couple, or family with one or two children (or more if lofts are used). The bedroom has comfortable double bed and the large "family" sitting room has fold out queen size futon-type bed. Above the family room there is a loft suitable for an older child or young adults with a king size air mattress. Two couples who are friends and would happily share a bathroom could also use the two rooms. There is a loft above the kitchen with two comfortable twin mattresses (and lots of toys) so a larger family with several members who donn't mind sharing the bathroom and climbing a loft ladder can also be accommodated.
No TV or cell phone service but wireless high speed internet.
Breakfast is do-it-yourself - I'll put out cereals, homemade bread and jam, fruit and yogurt and so on. I can accommodate lactose and gluten free needs if you let me know. There are restaurants in the two towns on either side of us. You may bring in take-out and eat on the deck if the weather is nice. Plymouth with its University is 15 miles away and the town has many dining and browsing and shopping (website hidden) well as cultural events (In the summer the NH Music Festival has concerts 2 or 3 times a week)
A NOTE ABOUT PRICING:

NOTE ABOUT EVEN MORE GUESTS: It is sometimes possible to rent the entire house (once or twice a year) in which case request a pricing sheet). As many as ten people can stay in this case. Ask about pricing for house rental.
PETS: This is sometime alright but with discussion. We have a cat who is reserved but friendly. We can keep her out of the back wing of the house if requested to do so.
The whole back wing of the house is available, and the kitchen may be used for snacks, for making lunches to go, and of course for breakfast.
We can offer space for some guest food in our 'fridge.
In good weather, sitting on the deck which you can access from the family room of the guest wing and strolling the garden and fields are options.
If you want to use the local swimming hole in the river, we will make sure you have swimming towels, etc. We have tennis gear for use on our town court next to the swimming hole.
With advance notice I can loan a couple of bikes (I need to make sure the tires are blown up) and a simple bike rack. They aren't fancy but will do for casual biking!
Interaction with Guests
I am here to greet and offer advice about the area.
We have lots of books and maps and information about the many things to do in this area and in the White Mountains.
We are completely secluded yet within a few minute reach of a deep swimming hole in the Baker River, a simple town tennis court, ponds, famous climbing at Rumney Rocks, and lakes, hiking trails - and not to far from many wonderful attractions - The Flume, Franconia Notch, Loon Mountain, and much more.
No local transport.
Other Things to Note
Lots of good books, games and a guitar are happily shared. We have tennis equipment if you'd like to use the town court five minutes from the house. Toys and books for kids are also available!
No smoking or alcohol please
If there are toddlers, have a discussion with hosts (small pool and high deck and loft stairs)
Plan to eat dinner out unless we agree otherwise. You are welcome of course to make your lunches to eat on deck or take with you. You may bring food in for dinner to eat on back deck or back sitting room.
Some ability to keep guest food in 'fridge
We ask that desk and dresser drawers and so on not be opened, as this is essentially a family space - if closet space for hanging clothes is needed, we will gladly make room.
If you need clothes or towels dried, I am glad to do this for you. We ask that you do not put damp clothes and towels on furniture - a rack is available
The house and garden are beautiful, and Deborah is a gracious host. She left yogurt and fruit for breakfast along with freshly baked bread!! We rented the whole house along with friends, so we didn't get to meet Deborah, but we had a great time. Our favorite part of the trip was hanging out in the kitchen while we cooked.
The guest bedroom is in its own wing of the house, which is nice. There's also a house cat, who is super sweet (and may try to sleep in your bed, which we didn't mind at all).
This is truly an escape into the woods and a great value. It's quaint and a little rustic. If that's what you're looking for, you'll be happy.
Deborah was very responsive from the beginning! We were emailing almost everyday up until the day we were arriving. She provided detailed directions and everything we needed to know about the house.
Last minute, I wasn't able to go but she still allowed my group of friends to stay at the house. They said she was very hospitable and accommodating. The added breakfast was great, and the house was spacious. Location was also good for rock climbing at Rumney.
This is a special place so lucky to find on Airbnb. It is the most lovely place we ever stayed. Birds, lovely flowers everywhere and quiet. Our hostess asked us what interested us and told us the best roads take and places to see. A big plus is fresh homemade bread every morning! We want to come back soon and often.
Deborah is a most kind and wonderful woman. She took great care of me and my parents, both before and during our stay. We very much enjoyed our conversations with Deborah and will not lightly forget the inspiring and relaxing stay we've had with her.
Deborah's house was beautiful and welcoming. Even though we did not meet Deborah in person, she was in touch before the trip and gave very clear directions and tips. She also baked her famous bread and left it on the counter for us, which was a nice touch! We did not get a chance to explore the immediate area / town where the house is located but we enjoyed a long Sunday morning sipping coffee in the beautiful yard by the house. It was a less than an hour drive to Franconia Notch where we spent the rest of the weekend. I would definitely recommend staying at Deborah's place!
Really nice unique house nestled by the woods. Deborah is a welcoming wonderful host. Very close to Rumney if you're into climbing. It was a wonderful base camp for our trip.
We had a really pleasant stay at Deborah's house. Since she was out, we had the place to ourselves, she was so kind and even baked us her delicious bread before we left. The key exchange was easy, and she gave us really great direction to her place. Her house is beautiful, and it was perfect for the group of four of us. I will definitely recommend her place to friends who are going to Rumney in the future.
