About This Listing
July is now full and June nearly full. It's a beautiful time of year in May and we have two weeks open. We'll make a special offer for anybody taking either of the first two weeks in May!
Charming, secluded 2 bedroom house on pristine pond. Perfect for a couple, small group or small family. Comfortable roomy living room has huge plate glass window looking down on the water, with no view of other houses.
Close to coastline, beaches and near Wakefield, Narragansett, Kingston and the Block Island ferry. Lots of good biking in the area too. Private dock, perfect for swimming and kyacking. (No motors on the pond.) Lots of trees so the deck stays cool and shady in the afternoon. Only a few houses on the pond so lots of privacy. But you will need a car to get to the beach, shopping, exploring.

The main bedroom is two single beds pushed together to form a king size - can be made up as two twins or one large. The smaller room has a single bed and a small child-sized loft. The couch also folds out into queen size. Immaculate attractive tiled bathroom with accessible shower. Well appointed modern kitchen has stove, dishwater, microwave, fridge with icemaker. Washer/dryer. Towels, linens and kitchen basics provided including condiments. There is a ramp to the front door for wheelchair access.
There are lots of books, games, a DVD player and screen. There are two kayaks and a stable rowboat which allow exploring the pond.
This is a hidden gem. It's a great informal environment but well maintained with a lot of privacy. A great getaway.
Kayaks and rowboat, lots of pond toys, many good books and games, DVD player and TV but no cable or internet. Good cell phone reception.
Interaction with Guests
The house will be free for the guests to enjoy on their own. Somebody will be easily available if any needs arise or there are questions.
We will provide information about the nearby beaches, best stores and restaurants and a dynamite ice cream stand! While the house is secluded there is easy access to wonderful places like nearby beaches, Newport, Block Island and wildlife refuges. 30 minutes to Mystic Seaport and to fabulous Newport.
We are only about 15 minutes from the Kingston Amtrak train station.
This is a family house in a secluded area and it's important to us that visitors respect the community, the environment, and the house. It's a well-loved, well-maintained house and is easy to clean and maintain; so we ask our guests to take the same care as we do.
No more than 2 pets. Be mindful, there are a lot of woods to get lost in and critters to chase.
No soaps, shampoos or cleaners in pond. No motors or engines of any size or kind.
Do not leave toddlers, small children or babies unattended on the porch or dock.
Please no grilling on the deck. It is wood can singe from coals and the ash is touch to fully clean.
We got a very good last-minute deal in South County. Has access to a sweet little pond - you can canoe, kayak, or even swim! The house is cute, albeit very dated. DVD player worked, so we were able to get a movie at a Redbox outside the local grocery store.
My only real complaint is the musty smell. I'm concerned about mold - frankly, when we got home and unpacked, everything smelled very musty!
George - I'm sorry that you felt it was musty - we've not had that complaint before in several years of renting, and we've never had signs of mold so although things smelled musty to you,I just want to assure you that in terms of health issues, I doubt that it was mold. It's a summer house in the woods - as a family we've been going there for three generations now and it has the same smells of all summer houses I go in. But I am familiar with it, so I am sorry it bothered you. In terms of dates - it's a typical 1950s design but with an very updated kitchen and bathroom which folks seem to like, and we regularly paint and are about to get new rugs. So it gets a lot more attention than I typically see in some rented houses!
The house is exactly as described and pictured. We were not disturbed by anyone during our stay. If you are looking for a modern "cabin in the woods" then you've found it.
Right from the beginning, Deborah was super helpful in making my girlfriend and I feel welcomed and prepared for a relaxing stay at her beautiful home. She provided excellent directions to her place, good recommendations for food and entertainment, and made sure the place was in great condition once we arrived.
The place was clean and cozy once we got there. We had no issues with the place while we were there. We made good use of the boat that's available, and really enjoyed hiking through the woods. Overall, we would definitely go back to Deborah's home again.
Deborah was extremely friendly through email. We weren't able to meet face to face as she was out of town but she provided her son's contact info and we did need to contact him a few times and he was also very kind and helpful. The place was a perfect getaway in the woods. We visited in October and all the leaves were changing colors and it was beautiful. I hope we can go back in the summer to swim in the pond in the back yard. We were able to take the boat out a couple of times and that was a lot of fun. Thanks Deborah!
I am so glad you had a good time. I actually usually do buy fragrance free detergent for both this house and my b and b in New Hampshire - but my guess is our cleaner replaced what had been used up. I'll make sure we stay with the fragrance free because I also don't care for a scent!
The little house is very nice. It is nicely secluded in the woods but at the same time, it is a very short drive to the beach, restaurants, grocery shops... I was initially a bit worried about the proximity to the highway but even on the deck you only hear a faint background noise, so it was not a problem at all. The pond was very nice! We really enjoyed our stay.
We had a great time at Deborah's home in the woods!
The pond was super relaxing to row around and the house had everything we wanted for a comfortable stay, including all the cookware we needed to prepare meals. And the board games were a fun addition!
The location is perfect, close to beaches and Newport for a nice dinner out but far removed from the highway and so quiet! The design of the house is pretty nice too, very cool and breezy with the windows open but cozy on the cool nights, and a great layout for the space.
Overall, we had a fantastic time and I would come back in the summer to fully enjoy the pond and beaches.
This place was absolutely amazing! It's set way back from the main road (Rt. 1), and is extremely quiet and peaceful. The lake in the back is private and very still, and we enjoyed using the boats that were provided. In addition, the house is a short drive to some great beaches. It's an ideal location.
It was also very clean, and it came with essentially everything we would need while we were there. Recommend 100%
