You wont find a more private place to experience Kauai. Jill, your host is a 16 yr. master Hawaiian Lomi Massage therapist a stones throw away at a discounted price. Ahhhhhh!
ABSOLUTELY NO SAND INSIDE THE HOUSE. We ask that you drive 10 mph, down little gravel road, have your car alarm mastered before you get here and be conscious of high electric costs by turning off fans and lights when gone. Red dirt stains forever, wash mud off feet before entering,no muddy shoes on deck. Please no shoes in dryer. Please dont use washer or dryer after 9 p.m. ABSOLUTELY NO OVER-NIGHT GUESTS or PARTIES. Please no bedding or furniture outside. Because Jill is a massage therapist we ask do not walk back to our house, always call first. Please no smoking inside. Most importantly ,explore and have fun!
As our first Airbnb stay, this cottage was ideal-private, completely furnished, and close in proximity to exploring this amazing island. We honestly could not have asked for more. Jill and Craig were prepared, timely, and helpful.
The greatest experience ! Very friendly and welcoming hosts. The cottage has everything you could wish for. The view is spectular. Just be tolerant of the neighborhood dogs ;)
The cottage was fantastic! Had everything we needed for a week in gorgeous Kauai - towels, beach chairs, toiletries we forgot. The kitchen was well stocked with what we needed for cooking supplies as well and we almost exclusively cooked at home. The cottage was spacious and really clean and felt like home so quickly that we didn't want to leave! The location is fantastic for getting to both the north and south of the island - to all the markets and our favorite coffee and restaurants in Kapa'a and Hanalei as well as hikes and beaches - most of the major sites are less than a 40 minute drive. We loved the privacy we were given during our vacation as well.
In response to the dogs that others have commented on - if you are a light sleeper, as both of us are, this may be an issue. The dogs bark day and night and their owners don't seem concerned. We kept the fan on for noise but it didn't totally cancel out the late night barking. The one day we were back before sunset they were also barking for a good hour in the evening. This was our only complaint about the cottage and certainly doesn't effect our feeling about the cottage itself.
The cottage was a great home base for our 2-week stay on Kauai. The location is great for accessing all parts of the island. The local beach has a very local Hawaiian feel. And the cottage was roomy and comfy enough for us to enjoy relaxing on the few rainy days. Jill and Craig were attentive, and also gave us our space. Perfect!
Great little cottage, private on a local road and away from crowds - exactly what we wanted for our vacation. There are all amenities you need - kitchen stocked with all basic dishes and appliances, bathroom with extra towels, shampoos and soap, decent internet connection in the living room, excellent guide books that we lived off while exploring the island. There is also a number of various beach gear provided from snorkeling equipment to beach towels, chairs, etc. which we did not use as we reserved ourselves to hiking and exploring the island by foot instead. For our needs - hiking around the island - location of the cottage was excellent. Convenient short drive to North Shores and reasonable drive for exploring West side of the island.
Can not really point any "cons" to this cottage considering what it offers for the price. It is clean. Grounds are small but private and very nicely planted. It is not new but it is homey and friendly. You will get a feel what it is like living on Kauai in regular neighborhood, not in a timeshare or resort. There is only one thing we wished would have been different - being able to use small deck off bedroom that french doors lead to. Doors were sealed off and deck out of use per owners request. For us that little deck seemed to be the best place for morning coffee, being able to walk straight from bed to deck, have breakfast and enjoy views of mountains from the best place in house. Minor thing. We still enjoyed our every breakfast with mountain views and lush greenery from garden lawns by the house.
Did not have any interaction with the owners other than email communication.
Would most definitely recommend this cottage to any friends/family heading to Kauai.
Perfect little cottage on Kauai! Everything we needed for a week of relaxing, cooking, hanging out and sleeping well. Quiet, private and well stocked. We had no interaction with the hosts besides text messaging, which, in my book, is just as good as meeting them in person and having a good experience that way. Highly recommended.
Aloha! My husband, Luke, and I came to the island of Kauai for our honeymoon, and we're so glad we chose to stay at the Healing Cottage.
First, we'll start with the PROS: The Healing Cottage is incredibly private! The mature plants and trees that encircle the house provide the utmost privacy; perfect for honeymooning couples (or anyone who just wants to feel removed from the world). The cottage itself is charming and perfect for 2 people. The front lanai has seating and the washer and dryer; the back porch has 2 chairs for relaxing. The cottage is a studio, separated by large, wooden room dividers (although Luke and I actually preferred the room without the room dividers, as they interrupted the flow of the space). The cottage has windows on every wall (the windows were essential, as there is no AC), and 2 ceiling fans. In addition to the kitchen (a perfect size), Jill and Craig provide quite a few home comforts for their guests: cooking supplies (basic condiments), pots/pans, plates, coffee mugs, french press, small kitchen table, alarm clock, beach towels/chairs, water shoes, a cooler, Blu-ray player with a few movies (we mostly rented from Red Box), and a TV (with basic channels). We felt very comfortable staying in the cottage; it was like coming home after our adventures from the day!
Before I list the "cons" I want to start by saying that these items were not dealbreakers for us, and we enjoyed our stay immensely. That being said, here are some CONS: There is no AC. However, there are multiple fans and windows everywhere. Once you open up the house, it cools off quickly. There is no pool. Luke and I were fine with this, but if you are looking for more of a resort experience, this is probably not the spot for you. The neighborhood dogs are chatty. Luke and I are both animal lovers, so we thought they were funny rather than annoying, but they do bark (with the fans on you can barely hear them, and they didn't seem to bark at night either). Internet service is limited. We definitely had connectivity issues, but we just went to Starbucks in Kapaa when we needed to get online.
We absolutely recommend the Healing Cottage to anyone looking for a less commercial vacation. The location is central, which is important since a lot of driving is necessary to see the whole island. The cottage is quiet, charming, and feels homey. We were able to do laundry and cook meals which made the trip less expensive and more enjoyable for us. Jill and Craig were wonderful hosts; they did not bother us but were available for questions if necessary. The guidebook they provide is THE best guidebook we've ever used. If you're looking for privacy, lush landscaping and a central location this is the spot for you! Mahalo, Jill and Craig, for making our honeymoon an incredibly special vacation!!! We can't wait to come back! :)
Aloha! We are Jill and Craig, 20 year Kauai residents and world travelers with a passion for surfing, growing organic food, massage, creating art and always continuing to explore this ever amazing Island! Craig built the cottage,Jill painted, decorated and together transformed the land into abundance that you get to enjoy, like bananas, limes, avacado, coconuts, aloe, noni and tropical flowers. Jill is a 16 year MASTER MASSAGE THERAPIST just an acre away. We encourage you to eat healthy, surf, swim, hike, receive a massage,go beach and be happy!
