About This Listing
This Unique Summer House was finished in 2010. This location is in one of the best vacation areas in the country. It is in the middle of the famous Golden Circle Route.
This unique property was built to reflect the Icelandic landscape and complement the small vegetation of moss and trees in the old lava-field. It is a beautiful gem within a great area.
Everything is at your fingertips as well as a unique design which is nowhere to be found anywhere else in Iceland.
The house has 2 bedrooms with twin beds as well as 1 small bedroom for a single child. Upstairs there is a space which sleeps 2-3 sleeping bags.
The house also has a washer and dryer as well as a full kitchen with dishwasher/stove/oven.
The property is quite spacious and has a small children playground in the back.
From mid-August the property has crow berries and wild blueberries growing all around the cottage.
Laugarvatn is 15 minutes drive (Fontana Spa, Lindin Restaurant, N1 Gas Station and a grocery store).
Geysir is 10 minutes away (Geysir, Strokkur, Geothermal area, Geysir Center, Camping ground, Souvenir Shop).
Gullfoss is 30 minutes away.
Þingvellir (Parliament Plains) is 30-40 minutes away.
Service Center with a small grocery store, pool, restaurant, camping ground, mini-golf, 9-hole golf course, horseback riding and much more is 2 minutes away.
This is a unique property for travelers wanting to have a one of a kind vacation.
Palmi's cottage is a splendid place to stay. prior to our arrival we received very good instructions how to get there, and what restaurants to visit, places to see, and activities close to the house for planning our stay. very handy. we arrived to a warm and welcoming cottage, and it was a very comfortable and beautiful place to stay. very close to a lot of the attractions in Iceland's famous "golden circle".
if you have children this would be a very good place to stay as the glass top of the "pyramid" is a designated playroom full of toys, and a great place for them to spend their time under the midnight sun, or the northern lights. there are also playground outside the house, and horse riding, mini golf, and lots of things to do nearby.
The house is in a very quiet and beautiful location with lovely views. The main living/dining/kitchen room is a good size, comfortable and very well equipped. The kitchen comes stocked with plenty of basics (hot drinks, oils etc.). The hot-tub was wonderful and is a great way to relax under the stars after a long day sight-seeing; you must try it! Palmi and his sister Vala provided all the support and information that we needed and made sure we were happy with our stay.
I visited with my brother and mother for her 60th. We had a wonderful time and the apartment was perfect for us. The location was great. Secure. Close to everything.
My favourite part was the loft which gave incredible 360 views of the northern lights - which we were lucky enough to see. (Maybe a hammock in here would be popular? I'd have loved one)
Palmi and Vala couldn't do enough to help. They were always on hand, and gave us incredible amounts of advice and help thorough out.
Brilliant. Thanks so much.
Wow! Ever since I saw this amazing cottage on the Gizmodo blog/news site a few years back, I've been wanting to stay there if I was ever in Iceland.
What an amazing space, the architecture, attention to detail and high level of finishings... I hope this cottage has won some design awards!
If you're going to visit I would recommend you have a decent 4x4, especially in the winter months, we had a Toyota RAV4 which got us up to the cottage just fine despite all the snow & ice.
We were fortunate enough to see the northern lights during our stay, made extra special thanks to the hot tub (and wind/privacy screen). You have big open views giving you a great vantage point to see the northern lights.
There is no internet as standard and no TV, to us though this wasn't a big deal, gave us chance to disconnect and enjoy the cottage more and spend quality time with each other.
We bought food in with us from one of the generic supermarkets, but one evening we paid a visit to the nearby farmhouse/restaurant called
Efstidalur II which was spot on, great food for not a bad price, service could have been a little better but you can't win them all ;) It was only around 7minutes drive from the Cottage. For info this closes at 2100 most nights and 2000 on a Sunday.
The hosts, Palmi and his family, did a fantastic job organising everything ready for our arrival. Communication was good and the documentation Palmi supplied prior to our arrival was very well structured and informative.
Fully recommend this cottage, such a special place to visit and enjoy.
The summer house was a great experience. Although there was a little bit of snow, the road to the house was cleared and accessible with our 4x4 (highly recommended if you go in winter times). The house is a great piece of architecture!
There is everything you need in the house but do not forget to stock up with food and drinks before you get there as the driving might be risky and adventurous in winter.
We used the hot tub almost every evening and it was great.
Palmi sent us very detailed instructions on how to get there and about the house and hot tub. Appreciated also the check list when living which was easy and helpful.
Great thanks goes to Vala (Palmi's sister) who organised the wifi connection and was always available during the 4 days we stayed. She replied every email within hours. We had bad weather on our check out day and she offered us to stay longer and gave us plenty of info on the road conditions. Very nice of her.
The house and location is just as beautiful as it looks on the photos. Geysir and Gulfoss are both close by and the nearby Efstidalur Farmhouse was great for a meal out.
We had a wonderful and snowy 4 days here in February. Sadly we didn't get to use the hot tub or see the northern lights so we'll have to come back for those!
Palmi and his sister were extremely helpful both before and during our stay. We will be back!
We absolutely loved this property. Our flight into Iceland was delayed due to bad weather so we didn't arrive until very late - we were still made to feel very welcome! We are so grateful to Palmi and Vala for such consideration. The information given to us prior to arrival was extremely comprehensive. The accommodation was warm, comfortable and very clean. The bedrooms were smaller than we'd expected but it was not an issue for us.
The only word of caution would be makesure that if you are visiting this property in the winter months that you have a four wheel drive car - we had some challenges on the road up to the house by the church in the icy condition.
The property is close to the Geyser and the epic waterfall - both within less than 20 minutes drive. Both stunning.
In previous visits to Iceland I've stayed in an Air BnB in Reykjavik - this was an altogether superior experience and one I highly, highly recommend.
Last but not least, I'd like to reiterate just what a great host Palmi is.
About the Host, Palmi
I live in Miami, FL but am originally from Iceland. I travel frequently both for business and pleasure. I treat every place I stay at as my second home and hope my guests do the same for me.
