Spent 5 nights at hotel cacao in a 4 bed room (2 single dads and 2 kids). Was really impressed with the cleanliness and simple layout of the room and hotel in general. The hot shower was a nice perk at this elevation and the ac worked great. The outdoor kitchen had everything we needed and the hotel was easy enough to find. Bijagua itself is a chill little town, very safe with kids. restaurants and general amenity prices way lower than other areas of Costa Rica. Not overly touristic. We rented an SUV (definitely recommend) for day trips as far as arenal and returned every night rather than booking different places every day. If you are just passing through, i suggest a minimum of 2 nights to see tenorio and cano negro. Juan, the flawlessly bilingual hotel manager lives on site and was fantastic for advice and made sure we had everything we needed. Also helped us book a not to be missed night frog tour. Will definitely be back!

Great place, with a beautiful garden out front that attracts many birds. Comfortable beds in nice rooms. And actual running hot water! Great access to local parks, and in a safe area of town.

Juan was very quick in responding, communication was flawless and he provided additional details on weather and conditions which were extremely helpful. The hotel an ideal jumping off point for visiting the nearby volcanoes, waking up to colibri fluttering in the lush garden is a plus. Recommended if you want to get away from a more typical circuit.

Really nice hotel, with the basic amenities, close to a lot of very beautiful natural attractions, surrounded by nature and a river where you can do some fishing, also the breakfast was really good and you can eat the typical Costa Rican food. The staff was great and they can recommend you what to do and visit during your stay.

We had a very a very pleasent stay with Leda, Juan and all the other people at the Cacao. One of those memories that will stay with us for a long time. We really appreciate all the time they spent with us, their help and advice with regards to activities around Bijagua. We enjoyed the outside kitchen and dining area and the nice garden. Our kid made friends with local kids and learned Spanish from native speakers for free. The owner Leda is an admirable person with whom is worth to spend time. Thanks a lot for letting us to get to know you better.

We had a spacious and comfortable room for 2 nights.Juan recommended us several things as to go to the Rio Zapote ( very close) and have a swim.It was great, refreshing and calm, and doing the Frogtour at 6pm (when it geht's dark)He arranged it. We had a very pleasent stay- also with the close Rio Celeste and the Tenorio National Park -which were our purpous- as wellknown atractions.

The hotel was as described, good for a short stay. Juan arranged a taxi for a trip to Rio Celeste...which was lovely. There were monkeys, sloths, and frogs on the grounds in the back of the hotel! There was a great restaurant right across the street. When it was time to leave, Juan helped me navigate how to arrive to my next destination. I highly recommend Hotel Cacao. Gracias por todo, Juan! Era un placer a conocerte. :-)
