About This Listing
Surrounded by native Australian bush and wildlife, this peaceful oasis in Sydney is situated in an idyllic setting. Full of character and charm with its wide wrap around verandas and original sandstone walls, you can ensure a delightful stay in Lyrebird Lodge which is a downstairs apartment that is part of our traditional colonial Australian home. Enjoy the laid back Australian lifestyle with breakfast on the veranda alfresco style, whilst listening to the animated chorus of local birdlife including the Kookaburra and Currawong.
Head into the city afterwards and visit the iconic Opera House and Harbour Bridge, as well as the Eastern suburbs trendy boutiques, markets and cafes. Alternatively, sit back and read a book, or enjoy learning about the Australian bush and wildlife with Blue Gum Reserve and Lane Cove National Park close by.
We live in a lovey, tree lined street and are only a 10 minute walk to Roseville station and a 15 minute walk to Chatswood station and restaurants. Chatswood is a lively hub with plenty of new restaurants, cafes, great shops and a huge brand new theatre and library complex. There is a night market on a Thursday with entertainment.
The apartment has two bedrooms with living/dining area, fully equipped kitchen and bathroom with large shower.
Laundry facilities, private balcony and entire apartment.
Interaction with Guests
As much or as little as the guest wants too. We sometimes bump into our guests and have a chat in the laundry room/outside space. Our little boy is very sociable and sometimes we have a play and get to know the children staying in the apartment too.
Always happy to give advice and share a glass of wine/cuppa over a chat if the guest wants that :)
Close to Roseville and Chatswood stations.
Other Things to Note
Our house is a rustic, interesting old place which we share with plenty of bird life and spiders. There are still ongoing projects to finish this lovely old place off and bring it back to its former glory.
We are currently renovating our back patio by the laundry area - stabilising the sandstone paving, replacing the whole floor and making it safe for children. This area is a bit of a mess at the moment but over the next few weeks it should be looking good!
This is a no-smoking apartment. If there has been smoking in your apartment during your stay then we will charge you $500 to clean the apartment and get rid of the smell of cigarettes.
So that you will not have to be delayed in getting the keys to the apartment we need you to e-mail your flight arrival and departure times. If arriving by car we need to know your estimated time of arrival. We also need the mobile number you will be using during your trip. When you arrive at the airport we need you to call the number you will be emailed closer to your stay to say that you have arrived at the airport. If you are driving then we need you to phone or text from at least one hour from the city centre to let us know where you are and what time you estimate you will arrive at Lyrebird Lodge.

The apartment is to be left in the same condition as you found it.

As you leave the apartment please put the keys on the dining table and send a text confirming that you have left the apartment and left the keys on the table.
Sarah's accommodation was the perfect location. Next to Chatswood and walking distance to the train line to go into the city. Sarah was always very helpful and accommodating and always answered our questions within an hour. My parents in law stayed 3 weeks there and loved every day. Roseville is a lovely neighborhood and they'll definitly go back there.
Wonderful stay ! Great guests !
The lodge is situated in the middle of bird wildlife, very calm, but only 20' from Sydney center. Very clean, fully equipped kitchen, with a touch of vintage...
Sarah provided us a portacot and eating chair for our 19 months old son. They even took us to the zoo during our stay, which is very much appreciated.
The location is great, at first glance it is just as described, the birds visiting for breakfast is pretty special in the middle of a major city.
However the previous tenancy was still vacating as we arrived. This should not have been a problem but these folks had been staying six weeks. This meant that the preparation and cleaning done over a couple of hours did not match the standard expected. When using the sofabed we discovered a major problem. The sofabed frame is broken and should be replaced. It is really difficult to fold out in its present state and almost impossible to fold back up.
There is a musty smell in the property when the windows are closed up. As the stone walls are patially underground this might be expected in the middle of winter, but not in the middle of summer.
We discovered the source of the musty odour. The stone wall in the bathroom is covered in black mould spots. Either there is a problem with ground moisture seeping in through the wall or a serious cleaning problem that needs to be addressed.
Thanks for your feedback Gerard. We are a little disappointed in your comments. We are not a hotel, we are a family home. One that is an older property not a brand new immaculate development. Our house has rustic character which most of our guests love.
I feel the cleaning was done to a good standard and always clean out all the drawers/ fridge/behind things as well as surface cleaning, but you guys actually left it in a real mess, especially considering you stayed for a short time. The sofa bed will be replaced and thank you for highlighting this as we don't usually need top open or close it.
Renting out our property is a part time business which is what Air BnB is all about, as you stay in a family home instead of a hotel. Most guests love to join in with our family and have a glass of wine and a chat. They are using Air BnB for a unique experience with locals. We are sorry this experience wasn't for you.
We were made to feel very welcome by Sarah and family, the cottage is set in the most amazing settings and quietest of streets, not far from all the local shops and the city.
Friendly, warm and thoughtful - Sarah is the perfect host. My family of 6 stayed in her downstairs apartment for 17 days when we first relocated to Sydney. We arrived late in the afternoon to a tidy, lovely home in the midst of lush greenery. Sarah knew we had had a long 8 hour flight and thoughtfully stocked the fridge with a few things to help stave off our hunger. Her deck, where we ate most of our meals, is a perfect spot to watch the local floral and fauna, feed lorikeets (they eat from your hand) and marvel at the cockatoos, bush turkeys, and owls. The area around her home is replete with nature trails and great places to eat are not far away in Roseville (the Lebanese and the smokehouse/tapas restaurants are superb).

About the Host, Sarah
Hello, I live in Roseville Sydney with my husband Graeme and our 20 month old son Thomas. We are renovating our lovely colonial style home (have been improving things over the past 4 years, will probably take 10 years!) which is around 100 years old. It has wide wrap around veranda's which are perfect to enjoy a social barbecue or sit and read a book in the hammock. We are lucky enough to be close to town and public transport yet be in a green leafy area of Roseville. We have some great district views looking across Lane Cove National Park with the Blue Mountains in the distance. We have plenty of birdlife to enjoy including Kookaburra's, Bush Turkeys, Yellowtail Blacks and Rainbow Lorikeets.
We are both very active people who enjoy sport, eating good food and travelling worldwide. We do a lot of camping and kayaking when we can as we love getting out in the bush away from it all. I run my own vintage hiring event business and Graeme is a structural engineer who works locally in Chatswood. We like nothing better than a glass of red on the vernanda after work in the summer watching the sunset.
We are both very sociable and love meeting new people. We are happy to give some local travel advice when you visit as well as tell you about some great places to visit on and off the tourist trail. Always up for a cuppa or a wine and a chat on the balcony!
If you have any questions, please just ask! Hope to hear from you soon.
