Great condo with a pool. Out of the hustle and bustle of San Jose.
San jose es un lugar in creible! Y este apartamento hizo la diferencia!
The condo itself is great - it's spacious, clean, well decorated, and it has a nice patio with a lovely view of the pool. The reason I'm rating it low is because of other factors: The location isn't great - it's in San Rafael, which we thought was a nicer suburb of San Jose, but it's actually what seems to be a pretty poor area. Nobody had heard of the condo complex and the taxi driver had to ask for directions 3 times to get us there (not a good sign). We drove through a sketchy looking little town and then the condo complex popped up. So, it wasn't in walking distance of any restaurants or shops and the town itself didn't feel safe enough to drive to for dinner. (The taxi driver told us the next morning that it's right next to a prison, which apparently houses one of Mexico's big drug gang guys. I can't confirm that, though.) I will say, once inside the complex, it felt safe and was on a nice, well kept grounds. Unfortunately, Renzo was supposed to meet us there and he wasn't there. The guards sent us to one building, then another, and nobody seemed to know what was going on. When we got there, we didn't have the key, so they had to make some phonecalls and finally found out that Renzo left it open for us, thankfully. To his credit, he did call us soon after we got there to check in on everything and he apologized for not being there. But it made for a stressful arrival not having him there to greet us and let us in. Inside the condo it was nice, with a good kitchen, wifi, cable TV. It smelled like fresh paint , which could be hard for people with chemical sensitivities. The other bad thing was it was VERY noisy. The walls are thin, so we could hear everything in the condo next door and above us. And there were kids playing in the hall and outside and literally screaming until about 10:30 pm. Since we had to get up at 4am for a flight, it wasn't the best scenario for good sleep.
I think this place could be OK for someone who was doing business in San Jose and wanted a place to stay for an extended period. But for just a night flying in or out of San Jose, you're better off getting a hotel close to the airport.
