The Space

This is one of my favorites!

- Ideal location, in the midst of the hip and connected to all the touristy spots
- Charming old Paris building, with a quiet courtyard filled with light and plants.
- Vintage and arty spirit.
- Sleep up to 4, but ideal for 2, or a couple with kids.
- Fully connected: flat screen TV, High Speed Internet, Hi-Fi sound system, jack cable
- 1 double bed plus 1 extra single plus one couch
- big lounge area with fireplace, dining room, dressing room, bathroom with shower and toilets, fully equipped kitchen.
- Fresh sheets, linens and towels provided
- I provide my list of recos and personal tips for dining out, shopping, going out, sightseeing etc.

The flat is ideally located in the center of Paris, North of Le Marais, the oldest part of Paris, filled with tiny, trendy and lively streets.
You are in the middle of the most lively and "bobo" (Bourgeois-Bohème) areas of Paris: Canal St Martin, Rue de Bretagne, Rue Oberkampf; and 5 mn cycling from the touristy areas of Opera Bastille, the cemetery Père Lachaise, Place des Vosges, Centre Pompidou, Musée Picasso, Parc des Buttes Chaumont. Although trendy, the area still provides excellent affordable options for going out and shopping, terraces, cafés, live music bars, art galleries, vintage design shops, etc.

I love this location, I actually live 2 blocks away in the Big-Central-Arty-Cosy-Parisian-7PPL listing and I sleep in this one when the big one is rented.

The flat is surrounded by 5 metro stations and there is a bike station at the foot of the building.
The most convenient metro station is République : 3 stops away from the train station Gare du Nord that counts the Eurostar to London, the Thalys to Brussels and Amsterdam, the RER B to CDG and Orly airports; 4 stops away from the train station Gare de Lyon : trains to the South, Geneva, Lyon and Provence. A major hub in Paris, it counts many metro lines to anywhere in Paris: direct line to Eiffel tower (count approx 15mn), the Opera, the Champs Elysées, Bastille, etc.
The closest metro station is Couronnes on the line 2, direct from Gare du Nord as well.

There are plenty of very good restaurants, cafés, lively bars and theatres at walking distance, as well as all the amenities, with traditional butcher, bakery (my baker won the Best French Baker of the year last year!), cheesemonger, fishmonger, quality grocery store, organic food shop, wine cellar, food markets, supermarket, etc... all this one block away from the flat.
There is a gym and two swimming pools nearby, one of which with garden and sunroof.
The street Oberkampf nearby counts one of the best Italian, Greek and Laotian takeaways of the city, if you don't feel like cooking. My pizzaiolo won the Fooding prize a few years ago, his pizze are just amazing! And Aline, my Laotian provider of bobun sees me at least once a week!
The very famous restaurant Astier is 2 blocks away (very tricky when you are on a diet...). It is a fantastic option to discover the traditional French cuisine and wines, for a reasonable price.
Les Petites Indecises is one of the most popular terraces, with friendly service and creative French cuisine...
Well, I cannot write everything here, I am so enthusiastic about my neighborhood!

I gladly provide you with a booklet of all my personal recommendations and tips for going out, in the neighborhood as well as in other parts of the city which are worth it, and will help you out with your sightseeing and going-out plans.

I'm an enthusiastic foodie and cook myself, you will not be disappointed!

The architecture is typically haussmannian, the furnitures are a bobo mix of seventies vintage and cosy contemporary design. It counts a marble fireplace, a wool rug, three large windows and double glazing to ensure you sleep quietly. The three big windows of the living give onto a private courtyard with trees and garden tables, which make the flat a very bright and silent oasis. Although in the middle of a very lively area, the flat itself is very quiet, thanks to the private courtyard and nice neighbors. (I count on you to respect this).

It is fully furnished and equipped. It counts :
- a fully equipped kitchen, with fridge, microwave, stoves, plates, utensils, etc.
- a living / dining room with sofa, rug, marble fireplace, a dining table, and plants
- a bedroom opening onto the living room with king size bed, feather blankets and pillows that you'll never want to leave in the morning
- a large dressing room
- a complete bathroom, with walk in shower, toilets
- High Speed Internet
- Hi-fi sound system with CD player and a jack to plug your iPhone or MP3 player
- I can add 2 single mattresses in the living, however the flat is designed to be more comfortable for a couple, with kids rather than 4 adults, it's an open space.

Wireless high speed internet in the flat (bring your own laptop or your iPhone).

The kitchen is small but fully equipped with everything to cook, I am a passionate cook myself (I expect you to treat my equipment with much care). Micro wave oven
- Cooker hood and cooktop
- Boiler/Kettle
- Fridge with freezer - Ustensils, plates, cristals, etc.

The building has a safety code and a concierge. The area is very safe, even at night, even for females at night.

- clean sheets and towels
- my internet access codes
- a list of personal recos and tips that you will not regret to follow :)
- my time to assist you with your trip preparation

Please remember that this is not an hotel, you are expected to leave the flat as you found it, there is everything to maintain it clean (vacuum cleaner, detergents etc.). The cleaning fee covers the laundry and the usual cleaning of the flat.
If you prefer to book my cleaning lady extra, please tell me in advance.

Airbnb will take an authorization on your credit card for 300 Euros (not charged) to be released 48 hours after your departure, if there is no damage of course. Fully refundable and thus not negotiable. It's like an insurance.

  • I've stayed in a few other apartments in Paris before moving to Matt and Odile's and I wish I'd found this one sooner. Their cosy apartment is close to perfect - comfortable bed and couch, huge windows, fast wifi, good heating and ultra modern bathroom and kitchen. The area is quite lively with lots of bars, cafés and street life, but the apartment is situated off a large courtyard and is very quiet. Highly recommended!

  • Lovely hosts, lovely location, warmly recommended!

  • Lovely place, Matt and Odile were key to us having a wonderful visit to Paris. The location of the flat is good, easy walk to about anything needed. Easy to get to the metro, which gets you anywhere you want in Paris. We'd go there again!

  • Our stay at Odile and Matt's place in the 11th was the perfect fit. The apartment was cozy and the location was near everything we needed during our week in Paris, including the metro, groceries, good restaurants, coffee and, of course, the bank!

Our flight arrived sooner than scheduled, then our taxi from CDG was very quick on a Sunday morning, getting us into the city much earlier than we planned. Despite the early arrival, Odile met us with a smile and had the place ready for us to not only drop off our bags, but "move in" ahead of the official 3pm check in. Awesome!

The neighborhood has lots of families and if you head out for the day around 8 or 8:30, you walk amongst the kids heading to school. Quite a bar scene at night! Matt had provided a guide of things to explore and places to eat/shop. It is a great list and we tried just about every restaurant he noted - good choices! - and found a couple we'd like to recommend: Coffee, My Deer on rue Saint-Maur and a new place Jennea just down from Atelier.

  • What a perfect little gem in a great neighborhood! The flat was a nice retreat after a day full of so much walking. We found it just as shown on the website, clean, very functional, perfect for two people (great shower, too!). The guidebook had so many helpful suggestions, we went to many of the suggested restaurants and enjoyed them all. I would like to add another great place to that list which was right around the corner from the flat, called Les Fabricants, great food, friendly service, good prices. We would certainly enjoy coming back to stay here again. Thank you for sharing your wonderful home!

  • Great communication upon rental and Odile met us 10 minutes after we phoned her. Location definitely not Marais but was in a non touristy area with lots of restaurants cafes and pubs. About 5 to 7 minute walk to 2 different metro lines which you really need to access to visit any of the main tourist areas close to the river. Metro is easy to use after the first trip apartment wasn't fancy but has blazing fast wifi and works real well for two people. There's a little noise outside apartment but not disturbing. Someone downstairs practices sax/ guitar early in eve for short time and plays well enough to be bearable. We would stay again if we go back to Paris

    Response from Odile And Matt:

    you're welcome back any time!

  • It was my first visiting Paris, and definitely the best choice. The location is awesome, you can go to Marais within 10 minutes by metro, and all the famous tourist spots in Paris are within 30 minutes by metro or train.
Regarding the house, it is needless to say. The room is cozy, quiet, clean, and as seen from Matt's pictures, there is a garden inside the complex, from the gate to the room door, so you can feel like really living in Paris and coming home after the day when coming back to the house.
The neighborhood is so cool, with a number of nice restaurants and cool bars, and especially Chair de Poule right in front of the apartment and Plein Soleil located right next to the metro exit were really nice. Bakery, supermarket, coin laundary, etc. everything is wihtin walking distance.
If I have a chance again to visit Paris, I will definitely stay again in Matt & Odile's place.

  • A great place in the 11th Arrondissement. The apartment in small but convenient for two persons. It's situated in an apartmentblock witch makes is very quiet. No sounds from traffic at all.
The neighborhood is very divers and therefore very interesting. All cultures come together on a square kilometer.
With the tips we got from Matt and some exploration we did ourselves, we had a great time.

    August 2013
  • We had a great weekend in Matt and Odile's flat. It's small but perfect for one or two people, very clean and cosy. We loved the fact that it's in a real working Paris neighbourhood and full of character. This isn't tourist Paris at all, but it's only a 20 min walk to Republique, the Marais, etc. Matt's restaurant guide was invaluable; we tried lots of his recommendations and loved them. We also really liked Les Fabricants, right around the corner from the apartment, for a late night drink and for the people watching (and the super friendly staff.) For those coming from Gard du Nord, it couldn't be easier to get to the flat on the Metro and took us 25 mins door to door. We would definitely come again. Merci Matt and Odile!

NGO development for Africa
Hi, I'm Matt, an enthusiastic and very social parisian. I'm interested in traveling, scuba diving, photography and horse-riding. I love to cook and create new recipes for my friends. I like animals and vintage sportscars. I work for an NGO helping inclusive finance develop in Africa, and I am a Director of a London-based consultancy firm. I used to live for many years abroad and I now love to help foreigners discover my beloved Paris city and its hidden secrets. On my spare time, I manage my very own flats, the flats of some friends of mine, and one flat of my company, that we rent from time to time to tourists when we don't use it for our employees. Odile is a wonderful lady who is helping me full time with her team on all the logistics of our hosting activity. Parisian too, super friendly and very helpful, she's dedicated to your stay. We are here to make your trip in Paris unforgettable and far from the touristy clichés !
