Nob Hill is one of San Francisco's 44 hills, and one of its original "Seven Hills." Prior to the 1850s, Nob Hill was called California Hill (after California Street, which climbs its steep eastern face). It was renamed after the Central Pacific Railroad's Big Four -- called the Nobs -- built mansions there. The slang term "nob" means rich or wealthy (a shortened version of the word nobility). Highlights of the neighborhood are James Flood mansion, Huntington Hotel, Grace Cathedral (all 2 blocks from my apartment), amazing views of the Bay Bridge, Financial District, Alcatraz, and downtown.

South of Nob Hill is the shopping district of Union Square, the Tenderloin neighborhood, and Market Street. To the east is the city's financial district and Chinatown. Northeast is the Fishermen Wharf and North Beach entertainment and restaurants district. West is Hyde and Polk Street restaurant and bar district.

Public Transit: 3 cable cars and various buses stop by the apartment within 1-3 blocks.

Cabs are reasonably inexpensive. You can take one by walking up to a nearby hotel or call one of the several local companies.

There is coin operated laundry in the building, immediately to the left of the front entrance (by the mailboxes). Please feel free to use detergent under the kitchen sink.

  • Great location! Our plane was delayed, dawn waited for us then allowed a late check out too. Appreciated that!! Love the neighborhood, safe, easy walk to just about any where. Apt was clean, perfect location - lacked personality.

  • We had a great stay at Dawn's place. The appartement is perfect located for exploring the city because all points of interests are very close. If you're looking for a quiet, clean and central accommodation, that's the place to be :-)

  • A good place in a great location. Dawn was a great communicator and was flexible with our check in time which was helpful. The kitchen was well equipped. The ad is a little misleading though - parking is not just difficult to find, it is only 2 hours from 8am to 9pm Mon to Sat. Would not recommend this place to anyone with a car. There are also quite a few stairs.

  • My friend and I stayed here for a weekend and we had a very pleasant stay. Dawn is very nice and helpful and it was easy to contact her as well before our stay and during it. The apartment was very clean and the location was perfect. You can walk anywhere and there are nice restaurants nearby.

  • Apartment very well located, very nice. The bed was comfortable (we have the same bed at home :) Dawn was very kind with us, even if we arrived 3 hours late (because of our flight). If we'll go back to San Francisco, we'll love to stay there again!

I'm 39; from Vancouver, BC, and after travelling to 40 countries, fell in love with San Francisco and moved here. I keep active and have gotten to know the city and surrounding areas fairly quickly, but there is still a lot left to discover. I'm a software nerd by day, and paraglide, kickbox, and socialize with friends in my time off.
