Mescal Canyon Retreat is part of our 22 acre property, Candlewood, in the central high desert of Arizona. We are located in the middle of the Verde Valley wine county, 18 miles from Sedona. Our property consists of our Main House, the Casita (caretakers house), 2 separate B&B rooms in an adjacent stone building, a Massage Studio, a Dance and Workshop Studio and my Architectural office. The entire property is "off the grid"which means we produce all of our electricity from photovoltaic panels. All of the buildings are built with GREEN and SUSTAINABLE materials. We have a large organic garden, a small flock of chickens and recently planted a 100 vine vineyard. Our property is bound on 3 sides by National Forest and 1 side by private land. We are located at the end of the road at the mouth of Mescal Canyon.
Mescal Canyon Retreat has two private B&B Rooms in a hand built stone building. The Sage Room has a private bath, king size bed and private patio with its own entrance from the outside. The Retreat also offers the Gold Room, with a king bed, and can be booked in addition to, or instead of, the Sage Room, if available. Please see separate listing on AirBnB for the Gold Room.
Both rooms have access to the Hot Tub Terrace and Hot Tub. This terrace is private with a wood burning fireplace and a wonderful view into the National Forest and Mingus Mountain. It is the best place on the property for star gazing.
Guests are served delicious organic breakfasts each morning of their stay. We provide organic coffee and teas, and serve eggs from our own chickens.

A truly wonderful stay with very kind and friendly hosts! We stayed two nights while visiting the Sedona/Clarkdale area and made good use of the hot tub and fireplace. The breakfast was delicious, the coffee was strong, and we certainly recommend the Mescal Canyon Retreat to anyone looking for a relaxing lodging.
Relaxing and so peaceful!
Stunning - from the moment of discovery when you pass through the gates, to hand-built home and gardens. If you want to feel what can grow out of the respect of the land, skip all the other places and come here. The Mescal Canyon Retreat is where art and earth blend into a seamless expression. Rennie and Andrea prove that going off the grid doesn't mean you have to sacrifice any modern day luxuries like a hot tub under the stars... Be sure to take the 10 minute walk to "the circle," you will be charmed and delighted.
We had booked a 3 night stay at Mescal Canyon Retreat, but my 79 yr old mom got in a serious car accident 2 days before we were supposed to arrive, and we had to cancel the reservation. I was fully aware of the strict cancellation policy before speaking with Rennie on the phone to tell him why we would not be able to come. He was very nice and I do not expect them to refund any money, as I understand the cancellation policy. However, it would have been a nice gesture to offer a small discount on a future stay - considering we paid in full and did not spend any nights, eat any breakfasts, or use any of the facilities.
Andrea and Rennie and their family are just wonderful, perfect hosts, very friendly and nice. I really enjoyed the stay at the beautiful place they created. Everything was just fine. The room is very nice, with a great view, everything was lovely decorated, you have your own privacy, the hot tub under the starlight is absolutely incredible and the breakfast was just gorgeous, absolutely delicious!
A very beautiful place with wonderful hosts!
Wonderful, special, beautiful place to stay - couldn't have asked for more! Great family, adorable pets, awesome scenic quiet location. We thoroughly enjoyed to delicious organic breakfasts, the hot tub under the star filled sky, the peaceful sounds of nature, exploring the area by foot ( with their dog Moki, of course! ). They gave us some great tips on the area including places to see and great restaurant options....( seriously one of the best gourmet pizzas ever ). Thank you Rennie and Andrea -we will be sending many more your way!
Our short stay at Mescal Canyon Retreat made us wish that we had more time to linger in this off grid, quiet place. The room was clean and lovely, with a great view, just a few steps from the hot tub overlooking the canyon. The room is in a separate building and seemed quite private, even though kind and considerate hosts Andrea and Rennie live only a few steps away. Food and flower gardens surround the property, and home grown eggs were on the breakfast menu. Their dog, Moki, was happy to take us on long walks up the canyon. For those who prefer a care-fully executed alternative vision to unbridled luxury, this is the place for you!
My stay here was MUCH more beautiful than expected. It's a perfect place if you want a natural escape from mainstream. Very peaceful and private! I brought my dog and she was able to run freely and even made friends w the dogs living there.
Mescal Canyon was beautiful. Of the five days we spent in Arizona our best memory was made here. Wholeheartedly thankful to have experienced the beauty of this wonderful place and the company of such inspiring hosts. Lots of love. Hoping to see them again soon!
My husband and I had a great time at the Mescal Canyon Retreat! It is a beautiful location, private, and comfortable. Hut tubbing under the stars is a must! Rennie and Andrea were wonderful hosts and we loved visiting with them while enjoying our delicious breakfast. Interesting people and an interesting place. We wish we could have stayed longer than one night. We will recommend this place to our friends. A great value as well!
