About This Listing
Mescal Canyon Retreat is part of our 20.5 acre property, Candlewood, in the central high desert of Arizona. We are located in the middle of the Verde Valley wine county, 18 miles from Sedona. Our property consists of our Main House, the Casita (caretakers house), 2 separate B&B rooms in an adjacent stone building, a Massage Studio, a Dance and Workshop Studio and my Architectural office. The entire property is "off the grid"which means we produce all of our electricity from photovoltaic panels. All of the buildings are built with GREEN and SUSTAINABLE materials. We have a large organic garden, a small flock of chickens and recently planted a 100 vine vineyard. Our property is bound on 3 sides by National Forest and 1 side by private land. We are located at the end of the road at the mouth of Mescal Canyon.
Mescal Canyon Retreat has two private B&B Rooms in a hand built stone building. The Sage Room has a private bath, king size bed and private patio with its own entrance from the outside. The Retreat also offers the Gold Room, with a king bed, and can be booked in addition to, or instead of, the Sage Room, if available. Please see separate listing on AirBnB for the Gold Room.
Both rooms have access to the Hot Tub Terrace and Hot Tub. This terrace is private with a wood burning fireplace and a wonderful view into the National Forest and Mingus Mountain. It is the best place on the property for star gazing.
Guests are served delicious organic breakfasts each morning of their stay. We provide organic coffee and teas, and serve eggs from our own chickens.
Please refer to our web site (website hidden) for more information
The B&B rooms are separated from the Main House by a courtyard. They are private from each other and each has it's own outdoor entrance. When walking along the brick pathway toward the B&B Rooms, the Sage Room entrance is on the left. The rooms also have access to a small supply room with a small refrigerator and additional room supplies.
This is a passive solar, native stone building. The building is hand built by us 30 years ago. Each room has it's own heat source and a ducted evaporative cooler for cooling in the hot summer days/nights. All rooms have sliding glass doors for good ventilation. The house is constructed of all natural and green materials.
Guests have the use of the private hot tub terrace with a hot tub and outdoor fireplace, a wonderful place to relax and star gaze.
If guests have a pet there is an additional charge of $15/night for each pet. Please inquire about pet restrictions.
Very cute place, hosts were accommodating and the pets are very sweet. Just a word to the wise swamp coolers only so if you are used to air conditioning to survive the summer temps be warned. I would really like to go back in September/October to enjoy the hot tub and fire place.
Thank you, Rennie and Andrea! My son and I had a wonderful stay in your home. Dinner at the stone circle, watching the stars come out from your hot tub with a small fire blazing, a delicious and nutritious homemade breakfast, all in an amazing setting with wonderful energy. You've inspired me to follow my goals and eventually be off the grid. Such a wonderful experience on so many levels. Thank you!
Rennie and Andrea are very welcoming, and their property as well as the amount of work and commitment they put into is impressive and inspiring. They'll ask you for a preferred breakfast time between 7-9, offer their opinions and suggestions for various activities if you want, and give you privacy otherwise. We truly enjoyed making a fire and enjoying the stars out on the hot tub patio area.
If you'd like to enjoy the area outside of the main touristy areas, this is a very nice retreat away from that. However, it does take about a 35 minute drive to and from Sedona proper. I suggest driving slowly as your approach because of the all wild animals that like to run across the road!!! I was quite excited to see the deer and bunnies though!
The property was exactly as described - perfect for what we were looking for! The rooms were tastefully appointed and both Rennie and Andrea made me and my wife feel welcome in their lovely home. Not only is the property beautiful and peaceful, but the breakfast was fantastic. The next time we find ourselves in the Clarkdale area we'd love to stay with Rennie and Andrea again!
Really nice experience here. Every place you turn on the off grid property is a space of interest from the hot tub and fireplace atop the crest to the different fountains, gardens and other areas. It's a very inviting atmosphere. Makes you just want to sit and take in it all while petting the two friendly dogs Moki and Ayla.
Breakfast was nice with home grown eggs and fresh fruits. The bed was comfortable and bathroom facility was small but very functional.
If you want an interesting place that captures your attention at every turn (different from the polished but soul-less hotel chains) this is a good choice.
Serene and secluded location away from the bustle of Sedona while still convenient for day trips. Location also very convenient to exploring nearby towns of Cottonwood, Clarkdale and Jerome, as well as the Verde Valley wine trail. Rennie and Andrea were gracious hosts and provided delicious and nourishing breakfasts each morning. Their sweet and loving pets and flourishing gardens were an added benefit. A delightful stay, indeed!
