The Walnut Tree B & B is located in Zana, a hamlet in the upper part of Abbadia Lariana on the eastern shore of Lake Como. We are one hour away from Milan, 2 and a half km away from Mandello del Lago and 3 km away from Abbadia Lariana. If you arrive by train, we can pick you up by car from the train station of Mandello or Abbadia Lariana.
The part of the house given over to the B&B has been sensitively restored and has the character of an old country house, complete with a balcony with views over the lake. The two rooms have private bathrooms. In summer you can have your breakfast served on the terrace in the garden.
A few kilometers away is the town of Varenna, where boats depart for the lake. The whole area is known for the famous mountain "Grigna", a wonderful place for walking and climbing. If you enjoy motorcycles, be sure to visit the museum of Guzzi motorcycle. Abbadia is the perfect place to swim: there are no private homes that overlook the beautiful beach.
I use airbnb for about one year and I really like the website: contact me for any information and I will be happy to answer!
It was a truly marvelous stay at the Walnut. We enjoyed every minute of it. The breakfast was fantastic (so cute and so much variety), the room so so romantic and the view from the balcony breathtaking! We went there in autumn and still had brilliant weather and Nadia gave us so many ideas of what to do that we could have filled a stay four times the duration of ours. Thank you!
Before you book this, know that you should have a rental car and GPS! It is not convenient for walking or public transport. However, with a rental car, it is an easy 15 minute drive to the ferries and hot spots in Lake Como.
The house is an amazing restoration of a 300 year old stone building, and Nadia and her family give you an authentic dose of Italian life and hospitality. Nadia goes out of her way to help, including driving us to a restaurant one night so we could properly enjoy the wine. I can't say enough about her and would absolutely stay here or at her authentic, rustic mountain cabin...ask her about it! The breakfast lives up to everyone's reviews, and you get an experience here that you could not get just renting someone's place.
We stayed at The Walnut Tree for three nights and had the most amazing experience. This Bed and Breakfast, is situated in a very very small authentic town on Lake Como. There are few tourists so you are away from any hustle and bustle of a major town. I do have to say, when I first saw how small the town was, I wasn't sure this would be my cup of tea, but within minutes of being with Nadia, I was in love and so was my husband. Nadia is the most warm, accommodating, hospitable host one can have. She is truly a gal who has a passion for what she does . The creative detail in everything she does, along with her delicious breakfasts is a tribute to her love for her home and graciously sharing it with us. Then, we ate at the few restaurants in town, one just a few blocks down the road from the Walnut Tree, and the owners were so welcoming. There is a gelato cafe we frequented every day, on the water by a small ferry station, and the owners came to know us very well by the time we left. We would watch families with children, riding their bikes and laughing and my heart was filled with such gratitude observing all of this. It was so precious!!It is advisable to have a car. The Walnut Tree sits high on a hill overlooking Lake Como, and you can walk this pathway that goes through a grass field, down cobblestone steps, over a bridge, past a church and it has lovely views. It takes only about 20 or so minutes. In town is the Mandola del Lario train station where you can hop on and in about three stations you will be in Varenna. From there you can take a boat to Belagio or other towns along the lake. When you come back, you can take the path back up to Nadia, if you enjoy hiking but if it's dark there are no lights along the trail so that is not an option. You would have to take a taxi and they are expensive or have a rental car. Nadia was gracious enough to pick us up in the evening after dinner when she was able but she is so busy I hated to bother her. We didn't have a car but Nadia, was so unbelievably helpful. I don't know where she gets her energy. Would I recommend The Walnut Tree? Absolutely. My husband and I really want to go back next year. We just fell in love with Nadia and this very small town. It was a priceless experience for us.
Lovely stay. Very nice landlord.
Wonderful breakfast as well.
Highly recommend this place if you like to stay at the countryside.
Nadia e Juliano,
Mille grazie per tutti!!!!!
We loved your house so much, alongside its atmosphere, taste and style. But most impressive of all was the kindness, warmth and openness of the inhabitants as well as their incredible, generous hospitality. Your breakfast was a feast to remember! We hope to see you again.
Grazie, Danke, Thank you so much!

Walnut Tree 2 and it's charming host Nadia transformed our vacation into a enchanted experience impossible to duplicate. The home is exquisite down to the breakfast table setting; not a detail forgotten. Nadia welcomed us with open arms and matched us with suggestions that were perfect for our time spent in Northern Italy. Our only regret was we had to leave. We can not wait to come back!

Sono una persona molto ospitale, amo avere amici e ospiti in casa ed é per questo che ho avviato il mio bed and breakfast. Se passate da queste parti, siete i benvenuti.
