We offer the convenience of town, the relaxation of country life, a comfortable home, and recreational facilities for you and your young children. And we offer one of the most diverse and stunning views (water to mountains) in all of San Juan County.

The space
Fall on San Juan Island is special. The crowds are gone, ferry traffic lightens up, the weather is just starting to cool, but winter storms feel far away. It’s also a special time at the Homestead; the clouds over the Straits become increasingly dynamic – often framing the Olympic Mountains – the crickets start chirping their way into winter and spiders’ webs begin to cover the grass. Then there’s the produce from the garden. This is the richest time of year when the main crops all mature. We typically have corn, lettuce, carrots, basil, garlic, pumpkins, and winter squash. Then there’s the orchard; apples of five different varieties, and pears in three varieties.
The garden and orchard are both entirely organic and the products are of a high quality. Our guests are invited to harvest as much as they’d like for their meals and we encourage our guests to fill a bag for meals at home.

Our Homestead is a modern 1800 square foot home with 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths, a full kitchen with modern appliances and an island. We have two queen size beds and one full size bed. Our vacation rental permit allows up to 9 guests but, please note that there are only three beds and two large couches. The most comfortable group size would be 6-7. We have an artist's studio in the house with supplies, desk, and easel available to you. There's also a large deck facing south toward San Juan Valley and the Olympics. Part of our 5 acre parcel is dedicated to an orchard. You are free to picnic, play, and seasonally harvest fruit there.

We have games galore! Badminton, croquet, Bocce Ball, and more. And we have kites that can be a pile of fun out in the big field.

That field, where the orchard is, is completely fenced in. It's a great play yard for children.

Our home and property are very child-friendly. Your children are invited to explore the swing set, our toddler's swing, and our tricycle. The very light traffic at the end of Lampard Road ensures that you and your children will be safe if you bike or walk on the road. Is there a runner in your party? Lampard is great for a two mile run. If you're looking for longer runs, check with us for suggestions.

This rental property is managed by Nathaniel (son) and Larry Wight (father). Hosting logistics will be communicated by either one of us, depending on the time of year you book.

This house is our family home. We live in it when you are not here. Our personal belongings, while not obvious, will be found in various closets, drawers, and cupboards. There will, however, be ample room for your belongings, too!

We have two cats that look forward to greeting you - one will seek your attention but the other is very shy. Both have been around children all their lives and are very predictable.

Finally, we are very proud of our Internet access. I just ran a speed test: 40 Mbps up and 26 down! And the strength is excellent, too: right now (in the midst of a heavy rain storm) the WiFi strength is RSSI = -29dBm.
Cell phones: our carrier is T Mobile which has excellent service on the property. Verizon is marginal here and other carriers' reception is poor.

Where you’ll be

Friday Harbor, Washington, United States

We are on a narrow, dead-end, country road one mile from the Town’s boundary. We are less than two miles from downtown and the ferry landing and less than 1.5 miles from the airport.
You will hear a neighbor’s lambs bleating every evening and the ravens every day. Because of the large number of nearby lakes, you will also hear ducks, geese, and other water fowl. On a clear morning, snow covered Mount Olympus greets you as you awake. Other days you will watch the fog slide across the valley floor and slowly evaporate.
Walk, bike, or drive back to town for groceries, food to go, a DVD or for shopping. Later, sit on the deck while barbequing dinner and watching the sun set over Mount Dallas. Harvest fruit and vegetables from the garden for dinner and dessert. That evening enjoy the night sky and, and appreciate our Canadian neighbors while observing the reflected lights from Victoria.
After a very quiet night’s rest, explore all the recreational activities that San Juan Island has to offer. Kayaking, Whale Watching, Native American art, our two National Parks, one State Park, and several County and Town parks.
