Wellington is a fantastic city with all the elements required to make a great city - compact and naturally scenic, excellent shopping, an abundance of culture, cafes and restaurants all within very close proximity and beautiful bush walks nearby.
Mount Victoria itself is one of Wellington's most sought after suburbs. It is home to Government House - the residence of New Zealand's Governor General. For cricket enthusiasts, we are minutes away from the Basin Reserve and next door, but one, is an awe inspiring Greek Orthodox Cathedral with beautiful iconostasis.
As one of the world's most compact capital cities we are minutes walk from all four quarters of Wellington. Close by (but not so close to be distracting) are Courtney Place, Cuba Street, Willis Street and Lambton Quay offering the best in downtown shopping and entertainment. Lambton Quay offers up-market shopping; Willis Street is home to top local and national designers; Cuba Street offers the best in funky/alternative urban shopping, while Courtney Place is the heart of the restaurant and bar scene as well as theatres and cinemas.
We are also only a short stroll away from the Beach. Oriental Bay – Wellington’s favorite beach and waterfront walk. Cafes, restaurants, and bars sit side by side. It is one of the best spots in the capital to catch the last of the sun’s rays in the evening, where you can join the picnickers with their fish ‘n chips and a glass of wine.
On Sunday mornings you can pop down the road to the Harbourside Market, a vibrant open-air Sunday shopping venue beside Te Papa, New Zealand's National Museum . Here you can get all of the finest coffee, cheeses, olives, condiments, deli meats, fresh fish, confectionery, an abundance of fresh fruit and vegetables, tofu, organic produce and delicious hot foods.

Maria and Mike are very friendly hosts! And their dog Scruff, too! Maria and Mike gave good tips on where to eat and what to do/visit, we had some nice talks in the evening and Maria's homemade muesli/breakfast in the morning was delicious!
The room was nice, the bed comfortable and it was no problem to share the bathroom with the hosts.
Due to ferry delays we were only there for a short period of time (evening, and we left early the next morning), but we had a really nice time!
We would highly recommend thid place! Thank you Maria and Mike for your hospitality!
Maria and Mike are very pleasant and easy-going hosts, lovely to chat with. We really enjoyed our stay at their place. Scruff is a well-behaved, quiet and cute dog and loves a pat. The place was clean, the bed very comfy and the city centre was just two streets away, so it's a perfect location for everyone who wants to explore Wellington. Thanks hosting us, M&M :-)
Maria and Mike were really hospitable hosts and we got along well. The accommodation is as described and a smart, modern apartment within easy walking distance of the city. Street parking was easily negotiated using the local coupon system. Breakfast was excellent. Great value accommodation in the heart of the city!
Mike and Maria are nice hosts and were very keen to make sure everything needed was provided for us.
The location of the flat is great to explore Wellington.
We absolutely loved Scruff!
Maria and Mike made us very welcome into their home.
The room was very comfortable and spacious. The flat was very close to the centre and just what we required. The Hop Garden served an excellent meal and was within 2 minutes walk.
It was good to meet their daughter Marie and Scruff the dog.
We had a wonderful experience at this lovely spot. The flat was bright, efficient, cheerful, very clean and our room very spacious. We didn't want to leave. The best part of the stay were the lovely people (and Scruff the dog) who live here. My husband accidentally took their hand towel but I think he subconsciously did that so he go back one more time to pet Scruff. Oh and the bed was a dream, as well as the yummy homemade muesli. And they provided us with endless useful advice.
What can I say? It was like visiting family. Mike, Maria and Miriam their daughter were a delight to be around. They made our visit to Wellington one to remember into our old age. We laughed together, shopped and hiked together, had a lovely lunch together... like being with old friends. The room is completely adequate, comfy bed, shelves in the closet. Location is very convenient to CBD. It is not a large apartment, but we felt welcome to use any part of it. And yes, Scruff is a sweetheart and will make you miss your pup at home. Thanks, guys, for a wonderful weekend!
