Bedroom (with A/C) for rent, in a sunny and bright rooftop flat on the 5th floor (with elevator), in the middle of the happy neighbourhood of Mar Mikhael.
The flat consists of: large living room, studio, kitchen with balcony and big terrace fully equipped with sofas, carpets and fans. The perfect place to tan a bit in the morning having turkish coffee and manouche at breakfast, or to relax with friends in the evening drinking a fresh Almaza (local beer) after a long day spent walking and visiting! (Wi-Fi internet included)
Mar Mikhael an-Nahr (St. Michael at the river) is the new area of the Beirut night life. Since last summer pubs and bars popped up as mushrooms all over the neighbourhood. Mar Mikhael is also close to others interesting neighbourhoods, the armenian area of Bourj Hammoud, Jeitaoui and Ashrafiyeh. The arabic school, Saifi Garden (Gemmayze), is just 15 minutes away by foot. Ashrafiyeh, Downtown and Hamra are 10 minutes away by car.
My flight got rescheduled but Ghigo was kind enough to receive me in the middle of the night. He showed me around the city, cooked some good pasta for me and I met other nice people both locals and expats through him.
Perfect location and super friendly host!
Ghigo is a warm and friendly guy who you'll enjoy meeting and his apartment is inspiring: rooftop views, very spacious and light, situated in a great area of Beirut, and peaceful. Ghigo has a mini library of books on the Middle East and is very informed on the regions' history. I would recommend the apartment to a journalist needing somewhere quiet from where to work, while still wanting to be connected to people with whom to relax and enjoy life in the evenings.
Everything was perfect, the host very flexible and welcoming. Perfect if you want to stay in Beirut for a night.
Ghigo is very talkative and friendly. The apartment was clean and quiet, and the outside terrace (with pillows, matrasses, and candles) was a great place to spend the evening. We really enjoyed our stay!
I stayed at Giacomo's 2 weeks and had an excellent time. Giacomo is extremely nice and and loves to share his knowledge about Lebanon. The apartment is great and well located. I strongly recommend it!
Ghigo is a man who knows his city - a rare thing in today's world of digital spaces and trans-continental commutes. He knows his city's history, its past political parties and personalities. He knows its streets, after years of long walks across its breadth. He knows its current residents because he is quick to help others and then invite them for coffee. All of this is especially valuable in Beirut, where current tribulations and labyrinthine historical narratives can make the city seem opaque, ungraspable. But spending time with Ghigo helps - he is generous with his time and with his knowledge, kind in his manner and in his ability to make the traveler feel welcome, and eager to do what he can to make a stay in his flat enjoyable and convenient. The flat itself is very nice, with expansive decks and a breezy interior, tucked back from the street but a short walk to nice cafes, good restaurants, and fun nightlife. The wireless is quick enough, the bedroom has shelves and AC and a little bedside table with a lamp, and there are good views over the city. Enjoying a stay in the flat is easy to do, and with Ghigo on your side, Beirut seems a little nicer.
Ghigo is a very polite person and extremely accommodating.
